HANIA AND PAUL HAPSELLIS
STS CONSTANTINE AND HELEN GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, NEWTOWN AND THE SEBEL PIER ONE, THE ROCKS, NSW
Paul and Hania knew each other through mutual friends but it wasn’t until Paul got her a job where he worked that their romance began to blossom. “Office functions (and drinks!) gave us a chance to get to know each other better and six months later we started going out,” says Hania.
Paul had managed to convince Hania that they were going out on nothing more than one of their regular date night dinners and a movie. But Paul had booked a special ‘couple’s getaway’ at the Amora Jamison Hotel and got down on one knee and proposed after a romantic four course meal.
The wedding day
“For me, the most memorable memory is the moment of walking into church and the overwhelming joy and happiness I felt as I walked to meet my future husband,” says Hania. They were joined by 150 family and friends at the Greek Orthodox Church in Newtown to celebrate their union. They wanted to incorporate both of their backgrounds – Greek and Polish, which they managed to do with a traditional Greek wedding and the inclusion of a Polish wedding tradition at the reception. At the reception, the parents of the bride and groom welcome the new couple with bread (so they will never go hungry), salt (as a symbol of the hard times in life to be overcome together) and vodka (to represent a life rich in health and happiness). They chose a yellow and silver lovebird theme for the day.
Hania wore a strapless ballroom style gown made from Bordeaux taffeta. It featured a dipped neckline, lace and beaded embellishments on the bodice and a balloon skirt. It was a Maggie Sottero design.

The photos were taken by Pepper Image. “They were absolutely amazing, always going the extra mile for the perfect shot,” says Hania.
They went on a short honeymoon in Fiji after the wedding and then an extended five week trip to Europe a few months later.
