ENOCH AND NICOLE TAN
ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS, MELBOURNE AND JORG RESTAURANT, NORTH FITZROY, VIC
Nicole and Enoch met when she went to apply for a job in the restaurant he was working at. “I took my resume in and passed it on to a waiter working that day (who I later found out was Enoch),” she says. She had an interview and was hired. “I didn't work many shifts with Enoch, usually Saturday lunch and dinner, but we got along really well,” she says. They lived near each other and went to the same university so they began catching the train together. “A couple of months later we started dating and nine years down the track we've finally gotten married,” she says. “As cliched as it sounds, I love waking up next to Enoch every morning and knowing that this is the man I'm going to grow old with.”
They were out for lunch for Nicole’s birthday at a winery on Mornington Peninsula. “We had been there a couple of times before, but had always wanted to have lunch at the restaurant,” says Nicole. “It was a beautiful winter's day. Sunny, with a slight chill”. They went for a walk after lunch and ended up at a lake, just chatting. As they got up to leave, Enoch said: “Oh just one more thing”. When Nicole turned around he was on one knee with a ring box opened up. “I had no idea that he had the ring, much less thought about getting married,” she says.
The wedding day
“We loved every part of the day,” says Nicole. They made their vows at the Royal Botanic Gardens with 90 guests. “We couldn't think of a more beautiful setting to say our vows,” she says. They went on to celebrate at the Jorg Restaurant in North Fitzroy where they ate, laughed, danced and could ‘yum seng’ (Malaysian for ‘cheers’) with their guests. “The staff were amazing, the food was delicious and the drink kept coming,” she says.
Nicole wore an ivory, strapless organza gown with a sweetheart neckline. It featured a ruched bodice and a flowing layered skirt. It came from Demetrios Bride.
It was a three-tiered, white chocolate mud cake with buttercream icing and decorated with handmade sugar roses. It was made by a family friend, Puay Lim.
The photos were taken by Sayher Heffernan.
They went to New York City, Kuala Lumpur and Koh Lanta island in Thailand.
