    • Another outstanding crowd I see. And they won't give Tasmania a team. What are they afraid people might actually go?

And Vlad gets $2m a year for ruining the comp!

      • I've been saying, from the time they chose to expand into Rugby Territory, Tassie should have been given a team before them. It's a lack of respect for a State that has supplied so many star players to VFL/AFL. I bet if Tasmania was asked to achieve the following, pledge of start up members 20,000. Sponsors $10 million, Tassie would achieve both easy. Yet we go to GWS. Waste AFL funds and are lucky if they get 10,000 to a game. It will never be a National comp until Tassie has its own team.

      • Also, you are so right re sponsorship and support. A tassie team would get 20k supporters in Launceston (which only has a population of 60k) and another 30k in Hobart. Instead 3 men and a dog at a GWS game.

I lived in western sydney; it has no culture of attending high level sport - it's only interested in 'events'. Witness the rugby league - state of origin and the ground's packed - two local teams 10k if you're lucky.

        • Why does Casboult get a game. I cannot understand it. What good is a guy who can take a mark in the forward line if he is completely unable to kick the ball. He hasn't improved he's got worse! Time for him to go.

          • @ Go Blues well that's right, maybe he should play in the back line. Up forward he's not much use unless he does learn to kick. the signs aren't good. Correct me if I'm wrong but this must be his third season and there has been no improvement. Don't like bagging him as I'm sure he's trying but maybe we should trade him.

          • Andrew. He played the last 4 Games Ratten coached. Actually showed a bit, I believed he was the forward we needed, sadly as stated above, unless he improves. Sadly for Carlton and a few other teams, the key forwards we could have got are playing at GWS and the Suns. Casboult delivered the ball beautifully from up the field.

          • Saint Mathew. Malt houses coaching record says it all. 3 Premierships, got the Bulldogs into Finals against expectations. Got a average Pies team to nearly beat the mighty Lions. His gone. Into this season with 22 players not having a full pre season due to operations, and Carlton still lack the depth required in the modern game . Eg Hawthorn who have about 35 players good enough to play AFL. We will not make Finals this year however, as the season goes on we will beat top 8 teams and shape the Finals. By the way, what's your bragging rights re playing and coaching Premierships at the top level. None hey. Then you can't bag Malthouse

          • Bad kicking, bad football plus shocking umpiring equals WC loss. I mean Tuohy touches the ball on the ground no mark but it's paid, given fifty for some reason and goals. Carlton throw the ball all last quarter and nothing paid. Sick of skilless football.

            • that Tuohy "mark" was a ripper decision by the umpire and the 50 metre that followed even better and then a goal - wow icing on the cake. What is going on with this game? the rules change minute by minute, game by game, week by week.

            • The problem is that the Eagles players (and fans) expect to win the free kick count by 10-15 as they do at Subiaco when ever they play there.

            • Hey Saint Mathew, How's Del Santos form this year? How's Goddards form this year. Oh that's right they both left the Saints chasing a Premiership. Saints through finishing in the bottom so much got more number 1 and top 10 draft picks than anyone ever, the Draft system was brought into help teams like the Saints win a flag. So its a bit foolish to bag Carltons lack of success under the draft system. Bit hard to recruit well also when the first year they ever finish last, they lose draft picks for breaking salary cap rules. Look in your own teams backyard before attacking other clubs. Only two current AFL clubs having bragging rights. Hawks as they are current Premiers and most successful team since the 70s. Cats as the best team since winning in 2007, always a contender

                  • the good news for Carlton is not that they won but rather it is now one week closer to the end of Malthouse as a coach of any AFL team. However the bad news is we may just have to put up with the whinger on television for a year or two..

                  • I don't think there is anyone that "hates" Carlton rather they are simply realists who know Carlton's time as a top team went out the window when the draft and salary cap came in. They can't simply buy the best players anymore. What we are seeing now is a club that doesn't know how to develop players due to having no experience in that area.

                  • Saint Matthew, your joy at what you perceive is Carlton's decline (equal most successful club in history BTW) makes wins like this even sweeter. After all no one takes joy in teams like St Kilda being beaten because they are pathetic and always will be.

                  • Lounger, Carlton has fallen way down since it's glory days of the VFL when it bought the best ready made players in Australia. Since the AFL began more than 20 years ago Carlton has become one of the worst performing clubs - it has had the steepest decline when measured in wins per season .St Kilda, as an example, has almost doubled it's wins per season since the beginning of the AFL.. I understand you wanting to remain in those halycon days - those Carlton days are far better than the modern day reality.

                  • Saint Mathew. You want us to be a realist, ok let's be. Saints 1 flag in its History. When Lindsay Fox was President to save them being kicked out of the comp due to inability to pay debts he did a deal with those owed money. They got 2 cents for every dollar owed. St Kilda is a financial burden on the AFL. Has very few supporters and should have been disbanded or kicked out of the comp Long ago

                  • but Go Blues, unlike Carlton the poorer clubs have never cheated - if any club should have been kicked out it would have to be the cheating team - Carlton. No-one involved in sport likes a cheat and that is what Carlton is. But it is no surprise as their biggest backer was the person that received the biggest fine in Australia's history for stealing from the community (Pratt) also ask yourself this - why is it before the AFL came in Carlton won a premiership approximately every 5 years on average. Since the AFL and the draft and salary cap they have won 1 in 20 years!!! A club in a steep decline.
