            • the game was being fought hard .then the umpires give essendon a dubious free kick when the eagles looked set to kick a goal with 2 minutes remaining.and they wonder why attendances are falling.i want to watch a game not a decision by an umpire

              • Dont blame the umpires for the eagles inability to kick goals. Only scoring 2 points in the last quarter may have attributed to their loss, not the umpires.

                  • Jim, must bug you and many that Carlton didn't finish bottom, like it looked possible early in the season.

                  • I can't fathom how people can be so delighted at a team's poor performance. Are we really such rotten human beings that we can't cheer our own team and let the others be?

The vitriol is nearly enough to put me off.

                  • Go Blues and Cuts both Ways - ignore Jim, he's just winding you up. The bluebaggers have had a reasonable year; but for a few close losses, they too would be pushing for a finals berth. They have both Port and the Dons remaining; neither will look forward to the game that could decide their finals chances.

                  • Cuts both ways. I agree. I get bagged for praising opposition players and teams. Eg Geelong, I respect the culture and success built since 2007, they have a top recruiting team and first class player development. Last night I "hated" the cats with a passion whilst enjoying the game and performances of both teams.

                  • @Go Blues: always enjoy your considered comments - especially when you praise the cats. :)

Tough night for Carlton last night, especially with the umpires admitting their mistake. A draw probably wouldn't have made an awful lot of difference to Geelong in the end, given our percentage will never elevate us above the other two.

                  • @cuts both ways. Agree EXCEPT when it's Collingwood. The fact that they are 40 points down to the Lions warms the cockles of my heart. How's the change in coach going for you Eddie?

                  • Not sure I'd call 2% 'massive', but will certainly come in very handy if Hawthorn end up on the same points, given Hawthorn's upcoming matches are unlikely to be walkovers.
