Carlton 15.17 (107) Melbourne 6.13 (49) - FULL TIME
The scoreboard will say Melbourne kicked just one goal after half time but the Demons did suspend belief for far longer than some other games this season. Clark kicked three for the Demons while Nathan Jones and Bail were best for the defeated. Mitch Robinson collected 33 touches and kicked three goals as a stand-out, while Brock McLean also collected 33 possessions. Eddie Betts padded his stats in junk time to get to five goals. Key injuries were Brad Green (lung) and Anew Collins (knee).

Hampson goals from 20m in front after marking. Five minutes left on the count-down clock.

West Coast 2.8 (20) Fremantle 3.2 (20) - Half Time
Much like last year's second derby at the corresponding stage, this game has reached no great height. Hopefully the pay-off is a thrilling and close final quarter. We've got to get there first.

Carlton 12.16 (88) Melbourne 6.12 (48) - Q4 17.15
Mitch Robinson marks running with the flight of the ball and without breaking stride advances in to an open goal. Third of the day.

Carlton 11.15 (81) Melbourne 6.11 (47) - Q4 14.49
Andrew Collins off injured with an apparent knee injury. Won't be back today with 10 minutes to go on the count-down clock.

Naitanui kicks a 45m set shot goal

Carlton 11.15 (81) Melbourne 6.11 (47) - Q4 10.17

Chris Mayne restores Freo's advantage with the Dockers' second goal of the quarter.

Carlton 10.15 (75) Melbourne 6.10 (46) - Q4 5.00
Great roving goal from Betts, taking the ball off the spill 50m out from goal, running to 35m and converting. That will do it for the Blues.

Carlton 9.14 (68) Melbourne 6.10 (46) - Q4 1.45

West Coast 0.4 (4) Fremantle 2.1 (13) - Q2 1.54
Fremantle go end-to-end with Zac Clarke finishing the move 30m out on the run.

West Coast 0.4 (4) Fremantle 1.1 (7) - Q2 first bounce
West Coast won its only other game this season where it was goalless in the first quarter. In that match, against the Hawks, they didn't kick a goal in the first half.

Carlton 8.14 (62) Melbourne 6.10 (46) - Three-quarter time
A fighting quarter from Melbourne to stay with Carlton after withstanding immense pressure early in the quarter. Carlton ultimately only kicked one goal for the term, while Melbourne's backline rushed a number of behinds to relieve the pressure. McLean has 25 possessions against his old team while Mitch Clark has three goals for Melbourne.

Carlton 8.14 (62) Melbourne 6.10 (46) - Q3 25.40

One quarter, one goal. Match has been filled with stoppages and lock-down footy.

Carlton 8.14 (62) Melbourne 6.10 (46) - Q3 21.42
Five minutes to go on the count-down clock and Melbourne have at least fought back into this match territorially. But accuracy at both ends is lacking.

West Coast 0.2 (2) Fremantle 1.1 (7) - Q1 20.00
Into time-on of the first quarter and only one goal. Anyone who saw the half-game in the NAB Cup between these two would not be surprised. Lock-down footy.

West Coast 0.2 (2) Fremantle 1.1 (7) - Q1 14.57
Ballantyne kicks a running goal to put Fremantle on the board and get a goal for this game.

Carlton 8.11 (59) Melbourne 6.8 (44) - Q3 11.14

West Coast 0.0 (0) Fremantle 0.0 (0) - First Bounce
Derby 35 underway at Patersons Stadium

Carlton 7.8 (50) Melbourne 5.7 (37) - Half Time
Melbourne did well to close the game down after quick Carlton goals had threatened to blow out the lead. Mitch Clark has three goals for Melbourne and Grimes 14 possessions as their best while Mitch Robinson has two goals as 17 possessions as Carlton's best.

Carlton 7.6 (48) Melbourne 5.7 (37) - Q2 25.55
Clark snaps a goal from 35m out on the boundary. In the build-up it looked like Gibbs had marked in midfield but the umpire said he didn't hold it long enough. The ball was turned over and Clark marked on the boundary.

Carlton 7.6 (48) Melbourne 4.5 (29) - Q2 15.10
Demons under seige on the last line and Armfield caught a desperate kick off the ground out of the goalsquare. He converted a 25m set shot.

Carlton 6.6 (42) Melbourne 4.5 (29) - Q2 12.08
Tuohy kicks a 50m long bomb on the run! Carlton starting to get on top all over the ground now.

Carlton 5.5 (35) Melbourne 4.4 (28) - Q2 10.13

Carlton 4.4 (28) Melbourne 4.4 (28) - Q2 6.25
Clark marks strongly ahead of Jamison and converts from 40m. Melbourne draw level.

Carlton 4.3 (27) Melbourne 3.4 (22) - Q2 0.30
Early strike for Carlton as Mitch Robinson runs off Ellard's hand-pass and kicks a 40m goal. Blues in front. Looks like Brad Green might be subbed after heading down to the rooms following his first-quarter clash with Bootsma.

Carlton 3.3 (21) Melbourne 3.4 (22) - Q2 first bounce
A good feeling about Melbourne in spite of two late goals in the first quarter for Carlton. Can the Dees keep the intensity going?

North Melbourne 17.10 (112) v Brisbane 15.6 (96) - FULL TIME
North will take the four points after their horror fortnight but this was underwhelming. The Kangaroos had the game and percentage at their mercy at half time only to leave the door open for Brisbane...who weren't good enough to keep the momentum going after a six-goal third quarter. Sam Wright kicked four goals for the Roos while Aaron Black looked good kicking three and Kieran Harper put up a goal of the year nomination in his three. Cornelius finished with four for Brisbane while Rising Star nominee Mitch Golby (25 touches) and Jack Redden (25) were leading ball-winners. Expect to hear more about Simon Black's knee injury and how he even made it to the start after looking hurt in the warm-up.

North Melbourne 17.10 (112) v Brisbane 15.6 (96) - Q4 after the siren
Cornelius marks seconds before the siren sounds...and kicks a 50m set shot goal.

North Melbourne 17.10 (112) v Brisbane 14.6 (90) - Q4 28.06
Jonathan Brown kicks a late consolation. Less than a minute to go on the count-down clock.

Carlton 3.3 (21) Melbourne 3.4 (22) - Quarter Time
A fighting first term from the Dees where they won the contested possessions and let Carlton know that we could be in for a game. Simpson has been Carlton's best while Grimes has been good for Melbourne.

Carlton 3.3 (21) Melbourne 3.4 (22) -Q1 after the siren
Betts marks with 10 seconds left in the forward pocket and kicks a banana goal after the siren! Carlton within a point at the first change after a couple of late goals.

Carlton 2.3 (15) Melbourne 3.3 (21) - Q1 26.26
Mitch Robinson runs into an open goal after intercepting a hospital ball between Rivers and Watts in the Melbourne backline. Blues back within a goal.

Green snaps a goal for Brisbane. His second.

Carlton 1.3 (9) Melbourne 3.3 (21) - Q1 23.05

North Melbourne 17.10 (112) v Brisbane 12.6 (78) - Q4 18.17
Zorko gets Brisbane on the board in the final term. And yet it wasn't until Harper's miracle goal that you could categorically say this one was over.

North Melbourne 17.10 (112) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Q4 16.54
Brown can't make the distance from a difficult set shot. Lions still yet to score in the final term.

Carlton 1.2 (8) Melbourne 2.3 (15) - Q1 17.49
Carlton at last on the board after Hampson out-marked Rivers 25m out and converted the set shot.

North Melbourne 17.10 (112) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Q4 13.24
Greenwood snaps a roving goal from 10m after a scrap found its way from the corridor to the forward pocket. With 10.16 to go on the count-down clock this one is now safe in North's keeping.

Carlton 0.1 (1) Melbourne 2.3 (15) - Q1 13.11
Sam Blease kicks a nice goal to get the Demons out to a mini-gap. They've started well.

North Melbourne 16.10 (106) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Q4 9.12
Harper kicks the goal of the day to surely make it safe for North! Snap along the ground from the boundary...expect to see that in the nominees for goal of the week.

North Melbourne 15.9 (99) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Q4 7.43
Tom Rockliff with a nasty looking hyperextension of his knee.

Carlton 0.1 (1) Melbourne 1.2 (8) - Q1 7.55
Melbourne kick the first goal through Jeremy Howe after he roved the spill.

North Melbourne 15.9 (99) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Q4 4.13
Nervous stoppage-filled start to the last quarter. North deny Josh Green's ambitious snap around the corner by marking on the goal-line.

North Melbourne 15.9 (99) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Q4 0.40
Big miss from Drew Petrie...he took the team-lifting mark crashing the pack 35m out but put his set shot wide to the near side.

North Melbourne 15.8 (98) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Q4 first bounce
Action underway in the last quarter at Etihad

Carlton 0.0 (0) Melbourne 0.2 (2) - Q1 1.30
A couple of early points for Melbourne, one rushed, one missed set shot from Howe.

Carlton 0.0 (0) Melbourne 0.0 (0) - FIRST BOUNCE
Action underway at the MCG.

North Melbourne 15.8 (98) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Three quarter time
So we sort-of have a game. North an uncomfortable 26 points up after having their margin cut in half in that quarter. But there is still little margin for error for Brisbane to pull off a comeback in the final term.

North Melbourne 15.8 (98) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Q3 28.38
North playing keepings off with a minute to go in the quarter.

North Melbourne 15.8 (98) v Brisbane 11.6 (72) - Q3 25.53
Merrett intercepted a ball after North had attempted to play keepings off...he dribbled through a bouncing ball! Umpires call for the review to check if it hit the post. Hard to know if the ball hit the post or if shadow has confused the issue with the shiny padding. Goal paid. Three minutes to go on the count-down clock in this quarter!

North Melbourne 15.8 (98) v Brisbane 10.6 (66) - Q3 21.24
Cornelius takes Polkinghorne's kick off the goal-line and pops it through himself...acrobatic to make sure he didn't kill the chance and rush a behind. Four goals in seven minutes.

North Melbourne 15.8 (98) v Brisbane 9.6 (60) - Q3 18.53
Rockliff kicks a goal to make some cosmetic repairs to the scoreboard. Might need to kick a few more in a row before we can get excited about a comeback though.

Daniel Rich kicks a 45m set shot goal. Back to back goals for the Lions.

North Melbourne 15.8 (98) v Brisbane 7.5 (47) - Q3 15.23

Sam Wright kicks his fourth goal with a 35m set shot from a tight angle.

North Melbourne 13.8 (86) v Brisbane 5.3 (33) - Q3 First Bounce
North Melbourne have subbed Jack Ziebell out for Cruize Garlett

North Melbourne 13.8 (86) v Brisbane 5.3 (33) -HALF TIME
It's been a bit embarrassing for Brisbane with fellow 3-5 team North Melbourne handing out a hiding. Good luck to the umpires giving the votes because 11 Kangaroos already have double-figure possessions and there are four multiple goal-kickers. Wright and Petrie have three majors each. Yeo has 11 possessions on debut for the Lions while Cornelius is the only multiple goal-kicker.

North Melbourne 13.8 (86) v Brisbane 5.3 (33) - Q2 29.19
Harper kicks a 35m set shot goal. His goal in the first minute got this rout started and his goal with less than a minute before half time will take it to the rooms.

North Melbourne 12.8 (80) v Brisbane 5.3 (33) - Q2 27.34
Cornelius marks Drummond's kick on the goal-line as a pack of players went back with the flight. Less than two minutes until half time on the count-down clock.

North Melbourne 12.8 (80) v Brisbane 4.3 (27) - Q2 25.11
Wright crumbs a ball 30m out from goal and puts it through. Three goals now for Wright.

North Melbourne 11.7 (73) v Brisbane 4.3 (27) - Q2 20.03
Edwards marked on the lead and passed to an unmarked Sam Wright. He converted a 30m set shot.

North Melbourne 10.7 (67) v Brisbane 4.2 (26) - Q2 17.03
Bewick kicks a set shot goal from 40m after a sliding mark.

North Melbourne 10.6 (66) v Brisbane 3.2 (20) - Q2 12.55
Aaron Black takes a mark 30m out and converts the set shot from directly in front. Total domination at the moment, Brisbane can barely get the ball past half way.

North Melbourne 9.5 (59) v Brisbane 3.2 (20) - Q2 9.48
Brisbane under seige. Bewick did the hard stuff on the last line of defence to win the ball but his handball was straight into traffic, Petrie grabbed it out of the pack and snapped another goal.

North Melbourne 8.5 (53) v Brisbane 3.2 (20) - Q2 7.38
Floodgates are open now as North get the quick clearance and Brent Harvey runs in to 25m and applies the finishing touch with a banana kick.

North Melbourne 7.5 (47) v Brisbane 3.2 (20) - Q2 7.03
Aaron Black marks on the lead 40m out and makes no mistake from the set shot. North Melbourne on top in the second term.

North Melbourne 6.5 (41) v Brisbane 3.2 (20) - Q2 4.03
Brown gives away a behind-play 50m penalty for impeding a player after he had already disposed of the ball...but MacMillan can't convert.

North Melbourne 6.4 (40) v Brisbane 3.2 (20) - Q2 2.49
Big climb from Petrie and he got both hands to what would have been a contender for mark of the year...couldn't hold it.

North Melbourne 6.4 (40) v Brisbane 3.2 (20) - Q2 First Bounce
Action underway with North Melbourne in control of the match.

North Melbourne 6.4 (40) v Brisbane 3.2 (20) - Quarter Time
The score if anything flatters Brisbane after North won the clearances 14-3. Petrie has two goals while Swallow and Adams have been North's best. Simon Black gave away a goal with a turn-over but has also been Brisbane's best with his other possessions.

North Melbourne 6.4 (40) v Brisbane 3.2 (20) - Q1 after the siren
Brown marks running back with the flight in the forward pocket but the siren sounds forcing him to take a set shot without deviating off his line...The drop punt is straight! A glimmer of hope for Brisbane.

North Melbourne 6.4 (40) v Brisbane 2.2 (14) - Q1 23.46
Swallow kicks a 15m set shot goal after a high contact free kick...replay shows Hanley got him side-on in both the shoulder and head at the same time.

North Melbourne 5.4 (34) v Brisbane 2.2 (14) - Q1 22.17
Petrie marks 40m out and converts the set shot after Cameron Delaney made a 50m pass which he marked above Maguire.

North Melbourne 4.4 (28) v Brisbane 2.1 (13) - Q1
Cameron Delaney kicks a behind after a 50m penalty conceded by Jonathan Brown in a marking contest. Luke Delaney took exception to the late bump and it started a melee which should result in a dozen players getting fines from the MRP. No suspendable charges apparent in the maul however.

North Melbourne 4.3 (27) v Brisbane 2.1 (13) - Q1 18.03
Petrie soccers the quick reply after a scrap from a ball-up 20m out. Golby's hand-ball into the corridor didn't hit a teammate.

North Melbourne 3.3 (21) v Brisbane 2.1 (13) - Q1 17.01
Jack Redden marks with the flight 30m out and converts the set shot from in front. Ball movement looking a lot better from the Lions as they went end-to-end to set it up. Hanley in the backline got it all started with a good get-out kick on the last line.

North Melbourne 3.3 (21) v Brisbane 1.1 (7) - Q1 13.18
Cornelius kicks a 30m set shot goal to put Brisbane on the board. Simon Black spotted him up with the pass.

North Melbourne 3.3 (21) v Brisbane 0.1 (1) - Q1 10.31
Ziebell kicks a 50m set shot goal after intercepting Simon Black's attempt to kick across the defensive arc. A forgettable error for the Lions legend.

North Melbourne 2.2 (14) v Brisbane 0.1 (1) - Q1 6:17
Sam Wright kicks a 35m set shot for North's second after McGrath was caught holding him off the ball. Simon Black was struggling in the warm-up but was okay to start...only now he is on the bench with an apparent left thigh injury.

North Melbourne 1.1 (7) v Brisbane 0.0 (0) - Q1 1:47
Now North's turn to give Brisbane a gift after Sam Wright running into an open goal tried to hand it off to Aaron Black in the goalsquare but looped it too high. Brisbane scramble to rush a behind.

North Melbourne 1.0 (6) v Brisbane 0.0 (0) - Q1 0:25
Easy goal for North after a 50m penalty against Andrew Raines for running through the mark walks Harper to the goal-line and he makes no mistake. An early gift.

North Melbourne 0.0 (0) v Brisbane 0.0 (0) - Q1 First Bounce
Action underway at Etihad Stadium. Can North Melbourne bounce back or will Brisbane cause another boilover?

North Melbourne is desperately searching for another victory against the Brisbane Lions in the opening AFL match today. Carlton should comfortably account for Melbourne at the MCG but there's bound to be fireworks for the western derby between West Coast and Fremantle.
