Live AFL: Adelaide v St Kilda

FINAL SCORE: Adelaide 17.13 (115) St Kilda 16.15 (111)

ANALYSIS: A terrific game. Fast-scoring pace of the first half slowed noticeably after half-time. Many would have written off the Saints at the final break (your correspondent included) and they showed great fight and persistence to almost steal the match. They'll regret inaccurate kicking in the middle quarters but Adelaide also missed their share of chances in final term. Crows undoubtedly deserved the four points. In equal top spot with a 9-2 record they are remarkably well placed.

Q4 - 29.23: GOAL and SIREN!
Saints run out of time! Montagna gets one with a nice set shot after the siren. They only lose by four points after managing the final four goals of the game - all in time-on.

Saints harass in the dying minutes but the Crows are showing poise under pressure. St Kilda finishing this match like a steamtrain. A great and unexpected conclusion to this game.

Q4 - 25.04: GOAL!!!
Milne again .... didn't see this coming. There's definitely still time.

Q4 - 23.37: GOAL!!!!
Milne roosts a goal. Somehow they are still alive. They need another three goals in less than four minutes.

Q4 - 20.34: GOAL!
Siposs snaps one for the Saints. The crowd goes silent. About six minutes of game time to come.

Q4 - 17.29: GOAL!
Sorry Saints fans your game is over. Tippett drilled a major with an impressive kick. St Kilda will need five big ones from this point.

Q4 - 15.20:
Tight footy for the past few minutes. Crows protecting their lead to some extent, stacking the backline. Less that nine minutes to play and with the Saints requiring four goals, there's time.

Milne misses!!! It was a soda. He almost had too much time. The goalsneak was running into open space and had an eternity to convert .... He would have preferred a snap! Saints fantastic in this quarter. They are applying the pressure, keeping the Crows very honest.

Q4 - 6.44: GOAL!
It's the Saints. Margin reduced to just 21 points. Riewoldt made his mark with a strong chest grab and a quick conversion. Game on?

Q4 - 4.48: GOAL!
Dal Santo with a good major from the arc. Saints with half a sniff still ....

Q4 - 3.31:
Walker misses dead in front. A rare blemish tonight from the Crows.

A terrific quarter by the Crows. They created chances and didn't waste them when they arrived. St Kilda, in contrast, booted 2.4 for the term, making their return 7.11 since quarter-time. Costly kicking. Thompson set for three Brownlow votes from this point with 32 possesions, seven clearances and three inside 50s.

Q3 - 31.22: SIREN:
That's the siren for the final break. Margin is 31 points. Can't see the Saints managing an Essendon-like recovery to put themselves in a winning position. But you never know ...

Q3 - 26.31: GOAL!
Crows again. Wright with this second. Goal assist from Petrenko. Margin out to nearly 40 points with less than three minutes in the term.

Q3 - 24.15: GOAL!
That man Thompson gets his first. That makes nearly 10 minutes since the previous goal in this match .... what happened to the scoring?!@#

Scott Thompson having a day out with 29 touches, seven clearances and three rebound 50s. Saints with a greater shared output from their midfield guns: Montagna, Dal Santo, Armitage and Hayes leading the way.

Q3 - 13.34: GOAL!
Riewoldt from close to 50 metres. Saints stay within sight of the Crows. So important for them that the skipper exerts his influence on this match.

Q3 - 8.00: GOAL!
Callinan from the pocket. Crows clear out again. What was that about that spread of goalkickers? Just can't see St Kilda kicking a big enough score to win this shootout.

Q3 - 5.00 GOAL!
Sam Jacobs snares one. The big man does some damage. Adelaide 13.6 (84) St Kilda 9.8 (62)

Q3 - 3.30: GOAL!
Armitage with quick reply. Goal-scoring frenzy looks likely to continue. Strap yourself in.

Q3 - 1:07: GOAL!
Tippett with the all-important first goal of the third term. His fourth. Crows out by 22 points.

A fast-scoring, free-flowing encounter. Tonight's match has highlighted Adelaide's sharp improvement this season. Scott Thompson blitzing with 23 touches and getting good support from a horde of onballers, including Dangerfield. Crows are so dangerous in the forward 50 with twin talls Tippett and Walker looming dangerously and forward pocket Porplyzia already with three to his name. Saints will need a greater output from Riewoldt and Kozy. Goals are coming from their midfielders on the run.

Q2 - 33.49: SIREN!
A scoring fenzy this quarter. Adelaide's 6.3 to St Kilda's 5.7. Inaccuracy has hurt the Saints. But they showed a capacity to bounce back just as the Crows were edging ahead.

Q2 - 32.34: GOAL!
What a quarter of scoring. Schneider with another one. Margin cut to 16 points.

Q2 - 30.42: GOAL!
Walker. His second for the night. What did I say about that spread of goalscorers?

Crows with some big numbers this quarter: 13 more tackles, 23 more possessions including 16 extra uncontested possessions. Not to mention at least 10 goals on the board by half-time

Q2 - 27.10: GOAL!
Fast footy is good footy. Schneider for the Saints. They reduce the margin again, just as the Crows looked to clear out. Fifteen points the gap in the closing minutes.

Q2 - 24.02: GOAL!
Callinan with another. A great kick from the pocket. He kept his balance and split the sticks. Bruce McAvaney oozzes with delight in the commentary box. Crows have a great spread of goalkickers tonight. Ominous for the Saints.

Q2 - 22.38: GOAL!
Wright for Adelaide after a terrific team build up. Gives the Crows some respite from St Kilda's comeback after the Saints had closed to within nine points. Good match this one.

Q2 - 19.34: GOAL!
Siposs on the run for the Saints. They've had a great five-minute burst. Just when it seemed the Crows were moving clear ....

Q2 - 15.57: GOAL!
Montagna. Great recovery by the visitors. They stay in touch. Montagna now getting plenty of the ball. Margin cut to 20 points.

Q2 - 11.29: GOAL!
Dal Santo against the flow. Gee, that was important. Classy conversion from the midfielder.

Q2 - 10.22. GOAL!
Porplyzia again. Took the handball from Callinan and scored from in close. Crows out by five goals. Danger time.

Q2 - 8.43: GOAL!
Porplyzia with a contested mark and goal! Crows forward line is humming tonight. And the Adelaide faithful find their voice.

Q2 - 7.05:
Riewoldt misses ..... A bad miss from in front. Some consolation that he's out on the field though.

Q2 - 1.34: GOAL!
Adelaide grabs the first one. Porplyzia, the other key member of the imposing forward line, slots one from the pocket. Crows with breathing space again.

ANALYSIS: Tippett's heroics in the forward line was the difference between the teams. Both midfields are operating well with Gilbert (9) picking up the most touches. Sam Jacobs rucking well for the Crows and they have the edge with clearances. This contest is bound to be tight. Saints will probably rely on a bag from Riewoldt. Only spent three minutes on the field.

Q1 - 30.37: GOAL!
Goddard with a crucial one for St Kilda. That keeps them in touch. Riewoldt has been off for some of this quarter with knee issues. Footage is shown of him testing it in the rooms.

Q1 - 25.39: GOAL!
Tippett again. Two goals in two minutes. A beautiful kick from beyond 50 metres give him three for the quarter. With him and Walker looming dangerously in the forward 50, it's not hard to see why they've improved.

Q1 - 23.59: GOAL!!
Tippett climbs above the pack and pulls in a screamer! His resultant kick from 30 metres splits the sticks.

Beautiful winter's night for footy in Adelaide. The Crows ahead in the key stats measures: contested possessions, tackles and Inside 50s. Scott Thompson the top possession-winner with Sloane and Dangerfield nipping at his heels.

Q1 - 17.00: GOAL!
Walker for the Crows. Great build up. He marked sliding on his chest and kicked right on footy. Adelaide reclaims the lead. Nine minutes left in the term.

Q1 - 12.44: GOAL!
Milne mark and goal from about 20 metres. The Saints have settled and levelled the scores. Dal Santo and Gilbert with early touches. Adelaide 2.1 (13) St Kilda 2.1 (13)

Q1 - 8.13: GOAL:
Steven slots one from in close for the Saints. They've stemmed the flow early on.

Q1 - 6.04: GOAL.
David Mackay from beyond 50 metres. Sizzling start by the home team.

Q1 - 2.56: GOAL!
Tippett with the opener. The Crows forward has been responsible for the entire scorline so far. Crows off to a flyer. McAvaney says they've made a 'fast start'. Too true.

Saints have made a late change for tonight's match. Ahmed Saad is out, replaced by Jarryn Geary. Saints have Motanga, Hayes and Milera on the bench, with Geary the sub. Chris Knights is substitute for Adelaide.
