Full, live coverage as the Brisbane Roar take on Sydney FC.

    Full-time

With their midfield generals Thomas Broich and Matt McKay calling the shots, the Roar were way too good for the Sydney boys.

When Alessandro Del Piero limped off midway through the first half - with what we think is a hammie injury -the arse fell out of the light blues' game.

Frank Farina will have to find a way to get the Sydney FC team moving without the diminutive Italian. He cannot be expected to do everything.

It's a different story for the orange men. Although, he's still maintaining a stony face, Mike Mulvey, will be thrilled with the Roar's dominant display.

Crisp, elegant and sweet to watch, the Roar area already setting the standard.

    Roar 4 Sydney FC 0

The announcer deems Thomas Broich man of the match, though in my book  McKay has probably just pipped him.

That said, we're splitting hairs - they've both been superb.

    Roar 4 Sydney FC 0

    83rd minute

The Roar crowd is going off - this is a like a picnic for them.

Some of the Brissie midfield play is very pretty to watch.

Sydney have no penetration - they've given the ball away too quickly then been too slow to try to win it back.

The attendance flashes on the big screen: 21,841. That's healthy.

    Roar 4 Sydney FC 0

    78th minute:

Substitution: Luke Brattan shambles off to be replaced by Corey Brown. Brattan has been sweet on the ball all game.

Another Brisbane attack falters at the last hurdle. Henrique's final ball was overcooked, but the ease with which he split the light blues' defence was telling.

Here we go... Franjic dribbles quickly down the right flank, sends in a low cross and Thomas Broich taps home. Too easy.

    Roar 4 Sydney FC 0

    70th minute:

In the dugout, Mike Mulvey remains stern-faced despite the Roar's dominance.

And that's a lovely ball from Thomas Broich. Totally dumbfounded the light blue defence.

Henrique was on the end of it - his turn was balletic but the shot smashed into Janjetovic.

    Roar 3 Sydney FC

    66th minute:

For all Marc Warren's indiscipline early on, he has shown great determination in turning his game around.

Used to playing in front of 2000 for Airdrie in the Scottish third tier, he's had to get his head around playing in front of crowds 10 times that size.

Full marks to him for keeping his head up after bagging a yellow in the first half.

    Roar 3 Sydney FC 0

    60th minute:

The Roar smell blood. The crowd can sense it too. They're toying with the Sydney defence now.

McKay is on fire. You can really see why he was key to the Roar's double premiership-winning act.

And Thomas Broich is as majestic as ever in midfield.

    Roar 3 Sydney FC 0

The Sydney resurgence hits a bit of a wall. Roar midfield general McKay puts Franjic through only for Henrique to score from an offside position.

Franjic probably could have nailed it himself. Big let-off for Sydney.

    Roar 3 Sydney FC 0

Nick Carle is adding some elegant touches in midfield - a pinpoint ball off the side of his boot was a real gem.

Promising signs for Sydney FC fans: Joel Chianese shoots and hits the side netting after a nice through ball from Brett Emerton.

    Roar 3 Sydney FC 0

    47th minute:

If Brisbane win tonight it will be their 9th win in a row at Suncorp against Sydney FC.

Sydney are playing with more spirit - Frank Farina must have given them a big rev at half time.

But there's a cheap turnover - and McKay drills the ball from 20m. Janjetovic has to get low down to keep it out.

    One word: ominous.

    Roar 3 Sydney FC 0

Half time couldn't come quickly enough for Frank Farina's boys. For 35 minutes they looked solid at the back, but Matt Smith's goal opened the floodgates.

They look shot. Farina will be looking to the experienced Emerton and Carle to put some steel into their defence and midfield. Ali Abbas will also be called on to get something resembling an attack going.

Broich and McKay are ruling the midfield while Ivan Franjic has been zippy and creative all over the park.

Scary stat for Sydney FC fans: Out of the last 41 games when Brisbane have scored first they're won 40 times.

Will the second half be a massacre or can the boys in light blue show some fight.

Time to neck a beverage. Back in 5.

    Roar 3 Sydney FC 0

    43rd minute:

This is getting embarrassing. Nick Carle casually loses the ball on the left side of the paddock, Jade North pounces, sprints 15 yards and slots the ball past Sydney FC's hapless keeper.

Sydney look a shambles. Their formation at the back has collapsed.

Sydney - ADP = not very much at the moment.

    Roar 3 Sydney FC 0

    39th minute:

And the Roar have found the back of the net again.

Sloppy, sloppy Sydney FC defending has gifted Henrique a goal. He had an eternity to knock the ball in - off his thigh.

Brett Emerton really has to marshall his troops. Frank Farina looks like he's head is about to explode.

    Roar 2 Sydney FC 0

    36th minute:

Luke Bratten tries to chip the goalie - great vision there, but the Sydney FC keeper snaps it up.

And that's a nightmare foul on playmaker Broich by Abbas about 30m out. He scores a yellow.

Broich's  swinging free kick  finds Matt Smith's head, who nods it into the back of the net. Lovely set piece.

    Roar 1 Sydney FC0

    29th minute:

And there's another Roar attack that ends lamely. Theoklitis hasn't really been bothered in the Roar goal.

ADP is off receiving treatment. Will keep you posted. Actually, as I write he's labouring up the tunnel - he will play no more part in the game. Looks like a hammie problem.

Is it a case of no ADP, no Sydney? We shall see.

    Roar 0 Sydney FC 0

    24th minute:

Apart from Warren's wayward tackling, Sydney are looking compact at the back. For all Roar's possession, they've not created many real chances.

And here's a sign they're feeling just a tad desperate: Franjic whacks a 20m hit-and-hope way wide of the left post.

Injury news: Roar talisman Berisha has just limped off. He's going to be substituted for Henrique. That's a big blow to the orange men.

    Roar 0 Sydney FC 0

    20th minute

Ivan Franjic is terorising Marc Warren down the right side - turning him inside out.

And that's a yellow to Hingert for a seriously  late challenge. Yellows one-all.

But here's a horror tackle by Warren on Broich. One more of those and he'll be off - for sure.

    Roar 0 Sydney FC 0

    16th minute

All the pressure is coming from Brisbane. Alessandro Del Piero, whom I will now refer to as ADP, and Nick Carle are trying to spark Sydney from midfield but so far the collective desire isn't there.

And that's a horrible foul from young Marc Warren on Berisha. The ref slaps him with a yellow.

    Roar 0 Sydney FC 0

    11th minute

Sydney are being forced into their own third of the park - and Broich and McKay are the main enforcers.

So far Sydney have only had 27% of the ball.

    Roar 0 Sydney FC 0

    7th minute

Broich fouled 25m out by Carle but Miller's freekick is easily gathered up by Janjetovic. McKay's presence is already being felt.

He's holding the ball up well. Roar have all the possession. A swirling Broich corner is headed into the path of Nicky Carle who deflects the ball for a corner.

    Roar 0 Sydney Fc

    3rd minute

In case you weren't aware, Brett Emerton is in the back four for Sydney. Nice to see a quality player returning to the A-League.

And that's the first chance: Ali Abbas volleys from 6m out and but the ball is blocked by the Roar defence. Good lead-up work from Richard Garcia.

    A good sign for Sydney.

    Roar 0 Sydney FC 0

Welcome to tonight's game - billed as football's State of Origin. And while Billy Slater won't be plucking crosses out of the air and Mitchell Pearce won't be hoofing long balls down the field, this state vs state encounter promises to be a cracker.

There are already at least 20,000 packed into Suncorp and the atmosphere is heating up.

Last week, thanks largely to a tireless Alessandro Del Piero, and a splendid debut from Marc Warren at the back, Sydney FC put away Newcastle without too much difficulty.

Similarly, the Roar - with Ivan Franjic flying the flag for carpenters everywhere (he was on the tools a few years ago, you know) hammering a neat goal - are in a positive frame of mind.

They disposed of the Phoenix 2-1 at the "Cake Tin".

Matt Mckay, who played sweetly in the Socceroos' 3-0 win over Canada, is back in midfield for the Roar which will be a big plus.

And never rule out the contribution of Thomas Broich, surely one of the most gifted footballers to grace the Australian game.

Then there's the Farina factor. Sydney coach Frank was dumped by the Roar in 2009 in contentious circumstances after leading the men in orange to a grand final.

He will surely be looking for revenge.

And I have to mention Kosovar Besart Bresha: 36 goals in 57 games for the Roar is an excellent return in anyone's language.

    Bring it on...
