Well that's it folks. An absorbing encounter but for a post half-time lull. But in reality a result that will only pleased the goalkeepers.

The point puts the Wanderers back in second on goal difference over Sydney FC.

The Phoenix stay second bottom for now perhaps as the Heart take on Adelaide now. The Nixare still searching for their first win of the season, and with the "distance derby" looming in Perth next week, it could be a long wait.

Thanks for joining out live coverage and be sure to log on to smh.com.au for the latest news and results from all the weekend's action at home and abroad. Good night.

94th minute: Ifill plays a one-two off Cole's head but can't find a teammate in attack. He looks dangerous every time he gets the ball but lack support.

They win a free which falls to Sigmund and his curler just flies wide of the post with Covic beaten for once.

They win another corner. Last gasp stuff now.

Ifill hits a sweet shot from the corner and it looks goal bound but Covic turns it around the post and that's it.

Three points saved right there. Man of the match in our estimation. 0-0

91st minute: Ifill has a right-footed shot blocked after losing his man again. That block looked to have hurt the classy veteran. 0-0

90th minute: Three minutes to be added. A draw suits neither side really but the Nix will probably be the happier not to lose again.

88th minute: Boyd adds another to the Nix shot count (14-5) but no points for that. Muscat earns a card for a foul on Hersi and the Wanderers have a free but the delivery is poor from Mooy, who has been off his game today. 0-0

87th minute: The classy Ifill loses three men on the line and crosses for Boyd out wide. He gets cross-shot in but it is cut out again by Covic. 0-0

85th minute: Great pressure from the fresh Boyd again on the Wanderers defence to force a throw. 0-0

83rd minute: Amazing save by Covic yet again as Ifil is allowed to cut back on to his left foot. Nix corner is cleared through Hersi but his cross to Bridge is cut out and Ifill has it again but the attack breaks down in midfield. 0-0

80th minute: Boyd has a shot saved after an error by D'Apuzzo trying to control a wayward cross-field pass. Squaring it to the free man might have been a better option. Can anyone break this deadlock? 0-0

77th minute: Shocking miss from Bridge with an open goal begging. He skies it into row Z after Hersi danced through the defence and laid it off for a one-two over the top but was clearly offside when he got the return so justice done in the end. 0-0.

76th minute: Great save from Covic as Boyd twisted and turned in the area and got a low cross in but Covic was able to cut it out, just. He's having a great game in goal. 0-0

74th minute: Fenton tries to find Boyd with a cross behind the back four but it is too deep.

The ball drops for Bridge in the box but is blocked as is the follow-up shot from Mooy. Danger signs again for the Nix.

Another sub for the Wanderers. Heffernan off and D'Apuzzo on. 0-0

72nd minute: Lia goes down under a crunching challenge at the other end, looking for a penalty but again not given. Looked the right call as it was a 50-50. 0-0

71st minute: Penalty shout from Haliti after he has his leg taken out from under him, trying to turn in the box, but no joy from the ref. That looked close. 0-0

68th minute: Hersi wins a free kick after being manhandled. Moss punches clear under pressure but it comes straight back and Boxall cleans up La Rocca, and the Wanderers get another free in front.

A great dipping shot from Cole is parried clear by Moss but the danger isn't over as the Wanderers camp out in the Nix half. Again Moss is equal to it. 0-0

67th minute: Another sub. Riera off for the Nix and Boyd with his arms heavily strapped, comes on as Merrick clears his bench. 0-0

66th minute: Wanderers lucky to escape a scramble on the edge of the box after the ball bobbles clear from a half-blocked Huysegems shot but Covic is grateful to dive on it. 0-0

64th minute: Hernandez limps off with Boxall on for the Nix. Minniecon is replaced by Hersi for the Wanderers. Game on. 0-0

62nd minute: Minniecon tries a cross after nutmegging Muscat out wide but shanks it straight to the keeper. He's been having a tough time out on the flank with Muscat snappin at his heels. 0-0

60th minute: Huysegems breaks down the left and drives a low cross in but Topor-stanley clears. it could have been an own goal, but another Nix corner, which the Wanderers deal with. 0-0

58th minute: Short corner almost finds Huysegems inside the box but the pass is blocked out for a throw. Lia bursts into the box and cuts the ball back but no one on the end of it. Story of the Nix's afternoon and might bite them later on. 0-0

57th minute: The impressive Nix fullback Fenton cuts out a Wanderers attack and keeps going but the excellent Beauchamp cuts him off with a timely tackle again.

Cunningham wins a corner for the Nix, and Ifill is coming on for young Jason Hicks. Odd timing but hey. 0-0

54th minute: Bit of a lull here after a non-stop first half. Youssouff Hersi is warming up for the Wanderers. Be great to see him back in action, one of the most exciting players in the league. 0-0

51st minute: Minniecon appeal for a penalty after going down in the area, surging on to a through ball that was comfortably cut out but no dice.

Hernandez puts his foot through a shot after a great cutback but it flies just wide of teh top corner. Great effort that Covic could only watch. 0-0

48th minute: Bit scrappy so far as both sides struggle to hold possession and rediscover their rhythm after the break. 0-0

45th minute: And we're away. The Nix win a throw and press into the Wanderers' half. No subs so far. 0-0

Here they come for the second half with the Wanderers to kick off.

Some interesting stats: Surprisingly the Wanderers have the edge on possession 53-47 but the Phoenix have had more shots - 6-2 and corners 5-4. Still pretty evenly matched.

Cunningham and Huysegems have been a handful for the reshuffled Wanderers defence, which still looks pretty solid. We hope to see Paul Ifill join those two in the second half, if he is fit enough, for a three-pronged attack.

Haliti, Bridge and Cole have been lively for the Wanderers, with Cole's crossing of high quality. Haliti has mostly been operating on the left with Bridge. They miss Tomi Juric's powerful presence up the middle.

Half-time: One last attack by the Nix breaks down and the ref blows half-time in what has been a scoreless but compelling non-stop 45 minutes of football by two mismatched sides on paper at least. But it's the Phoenix shading it so far. Looking forward to the second half. 0-0

47th minute: Cunningham breaks down the left and hit cross is almost deflected in but for the acrobatics of Covic. The late corner bounces free but the shot by Huysegems is blocked. 0-0

45th minute: Nix corner is deflected behind for another but the short one is read and the Wanderers break out of their half. 0-0

44th minute: Fenton puts a low cross into the area and it evades everyone when all it needed was a toe and the Nix would be ahead. Big let-off for the Wanderers. 0-0

42nd minute: Haliti wins a soft free kick by running into Sigmund, who is not amused. Nor are we. Thankfully it comes to nought. Haliti tries the same trick again but this the Nix get the free. Hopefully that'll be the end of it. 0-0

40th minute: Cunningham breaks free but recalled WSW skipper Beauchamp makes a perfectly timed last ditch tackle to deny the pacy Costa Rican. 0-0

39th minute: Cole puts in a dangerous cross but Fenton just gets his head ahead of Bridge's to clear. The ball drops in the box but the Niz are able to scramble clear. 0-0

38th minute: Another card, this time for Mooy for blocking a free kick for a fuol that wasn't. This ref is a bit whistle happy. 0-0

36th minute: Fenton lucky not to be booked for a studs-up 50-50 with Bridge. WSW have the free kick. They try a variation and Haliti's back-heel almost comes off in the box but the Nix xclear. 0-0

33rd minute: Cunningham becomes the third Nix player booked, for a shoulder charge on Cole. Could be a square-up for the stray arm a few seconds earlier. But this could hurt the hosts later on. 0-0

29th minute: Yellow card to Riera for a handball in midfield which looked a bit harsh. 0-0

28th minute: Bridges chips over the back line to the run of Haliti, who manages to hit a volley coming over his shoulder but it flies wide and he is ruled offside. Great skill all round regardless. 0-0

26th minute: The Nix win a corner but Hernandez's dangerous cross is cleared. Huysegems breaks free and centres across the box but no one in support. Then Hernandez bundles over the defender and must be careful or he'll be off the way he is going. 0-0

24th minute: Hernandez misses the best chance of the match after shrugging off Beauchamp to release Huysegems, who dances into the box and scuffs a shot-cross into Hernandez's path but he can only fluff it wide. 0-0

21st minute: Nix keeper Moss has a let-off after Bridge's low cross gets a =touch from Haliti and bounces up into his chest. He scoops up the crumbs but that could have easily gone in.

Hernandez cops a needless card for backchat. 0-0

21st minute: Cunningham breaks free in the box after a great through ball from Fenton but Covic is out quickly to snuff out his shot. 0-0

19th minute: Mark Bridge tries to curl one in for the Wanderers after neat passing interplay started by Minniecon and Cole but it flies high and wide. 0-0

15th minute: Hernandez lets fly from outside the box but his daisy cutter fizzes wide after some nice build-up from the Nix. They don't look overawed by their opponents at all. 0-0

12th minute: The Nix are holding their own in the midfield skirmishes. Minniecon, with arare start for the Wanderers, goes on a mazy run but loses control on the edge of the box. 0-0

9th minute: The corner is cleared but the Nix win it back. Haliti is hacked down from behind by Sigmund but no card. Lucky escape there.

The free kick loops behind off Muscat for another WSW corner but the Nix clear and are able to break. 0-0

7th minute: Haliti playing a lone role up front as the Wanderers stick to their low possession counter-attacking game. Has had a couple of sniffs so far.

Cole wins another corner for the Wanderers. They're starting to rack up.

The Nix break through Huysegems, their best so far, and they win another corner.

    0-0

5th minute: Hernandez to take another free kick, the second for the Nix from a simialr area, wide left. Again he can't clear the first man but gets it back. The attack breaks down as the ref is felled.

Haliti finds space deep on the left and gets a shot away but Moss dives low and taps it around the post for another Wanderers corner. Poljak tries a shot from distance but well offf target. End to end stuff so far. 0-0

2nd minute: First chance of the game as Huysegems wriggles free from his marker deep on the left and squares the ball but Covic snuffs it out.

Wanderers go down the other end and win a corner. Sigmund heads clear and they wina throw.  0-0

1st minute: Phoenix kick off through Hernandez and hold possession. Huysegems gets a cross in and the Nix win a corner but go short win a throw-in. Good early signs for the hosts. 0-0

No Jerome Polenz, Matt Spiranovic or Tomi Juric as well for the Wanderers. Kick-off very close.

The Wanderers will be without the influential Shinji Ono for this trip but the Phoenix won’t lie down.

Their results have belied some of the football they’ve played this season, and they’re never easybeats.

In addition, they have a better record than most against the premiers, with one draw an a win out of their four meetings. Quite a few teams would take that.

It’s a balmy 19 degrees in Wellington with a fresh breeze blowing and the possibility of a shower later.

Shane Brady here with you for this afternoon’s match.

The Wanderers travel to Wellington with some added incentive to extend the Phoenix’s winless streak in the A-League this season.

Not only did the premiers surrender top spot to the Roar last week, crosstown rivals Sydney FC have leapfrogged them into second place, courtesy of their win over the Jets last night.

Just a few weeks ago there were calls for Sydney coach Frank Farina’s head. What a difference winning makes.
