That's full-time and three vital points to the men in Gold and Blue. Phil Moss has recorded his first win in charge of the Mariners tonight but he'll be disappointed with the way his charges performed in the second half. Storm Roux, Marcos Florres and Michael McGlinchey, my pick as man of the match, were on fire in the first stanza but couldn't find that same spark in the second 45. Although Sydney dominated most of the second half, there was a lack of invention to their play and they missed ADP's creativity. Frank Farina will be wondering why his team look so lethargic so often during games. This match wasn't a classic by any stretch, but it will give the champions enough hope they can start challenging for a higher position on the table.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    86th minute:

Another Mariners substitution: Brent Griffiths on for Storm Roux, who has been one of the best players on the paddock tonight. The game has gone down a notch in intensity in the last 10 minutes - all a bit dour.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    81st minute:

An increasingly desperate Frank Farina makes another change: Terry McFlynn on for Nick Carle. What can he do in 10 or so minutes?

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    77th minute:

How did he miss that? Simon was clear in a one-on-one with Reddy but his final touch let him down and the Mariners No.1 made a fine save. That should have been the match-winner, folks.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    73rd minute:

Frank Farina makes his own change: Naumoff on for Despotovic who was looking tired. That came after Mike McGlinchey's mazy run almost ended in a goal, with his angled shot from close range striking the post. The Mariners still want to kill this game off...

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    69th minute:

Marcos Flores has run out of petrol in the second half, so Moss has decided to replace him with Matt Simon. The Mariners have lost their mojo a bit...

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    66th minute:

Janjetovic has been very courageous in goal for SFC tonight, regularly putting his body on the line. He just plucked a curling Josh Rose cross out of the air with McBreen lurking. Could have been very dangerous.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    59th min:

Frank Farina chooses the pace option, bringing on speedster Yairo Yua for Matt Thompson. Sydney are having some success down the right wing, with Garcia and Chianese combining well - at last. But their finals crosses have been a bit how's yer father. The Mariners have taken their foot off the gas.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    53rd minute:

Sydney's best period of pressure nearly bears fruit when a 15-pass move ends in a dippping cross Reddy is forced to punch out.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    48th minute:

Dutchman Marcel Seip now has a card to match the colour of his shirt after a studs-up challenge. In passing... Joel Chianese has been very quiet tonight - and that's because Josh Rose has shut him up big time. Sydney need to get more inventive in attack.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

It's a bit cruel to bring up the ADP equation again, what with SFC winning with him off the field last week, but already fans are asking who will step up in his place tonight...

After a shaky start the Mariners have been on top for most of the half. With Flores and McGlinchey firing in midfield and Storm Roux smashing it down the wings, they've made life very difficult for the Sky Blue back four. Goalscorer McBreen will be ruing a missed sitter, but coach Phil Moss must be eyeing off his first win as Mariners head honcho. Sydney FC have been competent without showing any of the spark of recent weeks. A tad rudderless without ADP, Frank Farina needs Nick Carle to take more control in midfield. But the Sky Blues have come home with a wet sail in recent weeks, so expect a cracker of a second half. Catch you in five.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    43rd minute:

McBreen is shaking his noggin after heading wide from 5m with Janjetovic beaten. Should have nailed that.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    37th minute:

Wasn't quite sure if Ranko Despotovic was still on the pitch - he's been that quiet. But then the big man pulled out a bullocking 30m run down the left wing, only to undo his good work with an average final pass.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    33rd minute:

Michael McGlinchey is providing some sweet touches in midfield for the Mariners. He and Flores are combining well. In case you didn't know: Sydney FC haven't won in Gosford since August 2008. And that's a yellow card to Matt Thompson for a late challenge on, you  guessed it, McGlinchey.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    29th minute:

Disappointing news: just noticed Nick Carle has shaved off his Freddie Mercury mo. Hasn't he seen what the soup strainer has done for Mitchell Johnson? Oh well. Face fuzz aside, SFC are looking a bit slow at the moment. The Mariners have all the momentum.

    Mariners 1 SFC 0

    24th minute:

GOAL! Daniel McBreen gets a neat back heel on a cross from Josh Rose and Janjetovic is left stranded. Top finish from Mac. It was a nice short-passing move from the Mariners but you get the feeling Sydney should have closed it down.

     Mariners 1 SFC 0

    14th minute:

Despite their growing rep as draw specialists - they've had four already this season - the Mariners are surging forward at every opportunity. Old stager Josh Rose has been solid at the back and his ball distribution is smart and efficient allowing Flores and McGlinchey to push forward quickly. Storm - great name that - Roux is also proving a handful for the Sky Blues.

    Mariners 0 SFC 0

    10th minute:

And that's a cannonball of a strike from Nick Carle. His 20m effort was touched over the bar by Liam Reddy - a guy who has a lot to prove tonight. He's been in top form for the Mariners, but his messy exit from the Sky Blues no doubt still sticks in his craw.

    Mariners 0 SFC 0

    4th min:

It's end to end stuff as the Mariners mount their first assault on goal. A deft pass off the outside of the boot from danger man Marcos Flores found McBreen whose cross was goalbound but the linesman's flag went up for offside. Ooohh... that was close.

    Mariners 0 SFC 0

Ranko Despotovic is starting for the first time tonight and already he's causing trouble in the Mariners' 18s. He's a big lad and the CC defenders will have to be on their game. Ex-Mariner Pedj Bojic is copping it from the local supporters, but his swirling cross almost created a chance for Ali Abbas a few metres out. The Central Coast back four are looking rattled.

    Mariners 0 SFC 0

Late news... Crowd favourite Daniel McBreen is in for the Mariners tonight after his spell with Shanghai East Asia. The veteran could add the spark Central Coast need in front of goal. Richard Garcia is Sydney captain in place of ADP.

Welcome to Blue Tongue Stadium and tonight's blockbuster in the heart of Gosford.

Already a bigger than average crowd has rocked up - many of them in Sky Blue clobber - to see last season's champs, the Mariners, take on the A-League's perennial glamour club, Sydney FC. They're not quite so glamorous tonight, though, with Alessandro Del Piero and Brett "Emmo" Emerton out injured, but Frank Farina's men are riding a four-match winning streak - a club record - and will be hard to beat. This campaign, they've added grit to their CV, having won two of their matches with only 10 men. Central to their success have been defender Seb Ryall, and young Joel Chianese, who has improved with every outing up front. Meanwhile, the Mariners are still finding their feet after Graham Arnold's exit, and new coach Phil Moss will start to feel the pressure if the gold and blue don't start finding the net soon. But Argentine Marcos Flores is one of the league's most exciting players, and if he gets into gear, the Mariners will threaten Janjetovic in the Sydney goal. This match promises to be a belter. The temperature is in the early 20s and conditions are excellent. Here we go...
