Live: Raiders vs Rabbitohs

Daniel Briggs

Full-time: And it's all over at ANZ Stadium. Thanks for joining us for our live blog. Souths were much too classy and in all honesty, they could have put 50 points on the Raiders tonight. They still have plenty of room for improvement and look a good thing to make their first finals appearance since 2007 come September. The Raiders weren't helped by having Josh Dugan and Blake Ferguson suspended for drinking offences. Their defence, particularly on the edges, was exposed time and again by the likes of Inglis. Souths 36 - Raiders 18

77th min: The Raiders earn a repeat set but Croker knocks it on.

73rd min: TRY! The Raiders regather a short kick-off and at the end of the set Reece Robinson breezes through some soft defence to score. Can someone call full-time please? Croker converts. Souths 36 - Raiders 18.

70th min: TRY! Inglis just brushes past Croker again for his second try tonight. Luke sprays the conversion attempt wide. Souths 36 - Raiders 12.

67th min: Cattledog! Raiders skipper David Shillington shoulder charged Luke Burgess off the ball (although he thought he was going to get it). Luke's brother Sam didn't like it and after a bit of push and shove, Souths get the penalty.

62nd min: And after a terrible set of six, Souths spill the pill and the Raiders will touch the ball for the second time since the 1994 grand final.

60th min: Souths bombed about 12 tries there (it actually looked like Adam Reynolds had the ball on the line but he was told to play it) but Joe Picker knocks on a poor GI grubber at the end of the set and there will be more pressure here for the Raiders.

56th min: TRY! It's like some nerdy kid is playing Playstation rugby league against the computer on the easy level. Big GI holds a pass up perfectly on the last before sending Dave Taylor over for another Souths try. Luke converts and it's Souths 32 - Raiders 12. Luke is kicking because Adam Reynolds has an ankle injury for Souths.

54th min: Whatever Michael Maguire said at half-time is working. Souths make easy metres and on the back of a good kick, they trap Dimitri Pelo in-goal to earn another dropout.

52nd min: TRY! We've gone back to the first half here! Souths are doing it too easy at the moment and Dylan Farrell strolls around to score under the posts. Luke converts. Souths 26 - Raiders 12.

49th min: TRY! The video ref has gotten another one right! Where was this bloke on Wednesday night? That was purely a poor read in defence from TLL and Shaun Fensom from a lovely second-man play from Souths. Issac Luke converts and it's Souths 20 - Raiders 12.

49th min: The Raiders fail to find touch from a penalty before big Dave Taylor strides down the right touchline before earning a penalty himself. We're going to the video ref now for a try to Ben Lowe.

47th min: But after a penalty, Dave Taylor passes the ball to his mates in row four. It's all gone a bit haywire here at ANZ. Both teams are playing like they are two points down inside the final minute.

45th min: What is this? Bizarro World? In short - McCrone puts in a rubbish kick, Souths make a 60m break before McCrone somehow gets the ball back, he sends Joel Thompson on a 30m run down the right touchline and he is taken into touch! Take a breath Rabbits Warren!

43rd min: Oooooohhh Croker was close to a hat-trick there but Souths got a favourable bounce before being trapped in-goal.

Second-half: We're under way again here in the second 40.

40th min: TRY! Can you believe it? The Raiders have not been in this game but soft Souths defence out wide sees Joel Thompson stroll over in the right corner. That's the Souths defence of old, they didn't look interested there. Croker hooks the conversion again but at half-time it's Souths 14 - Raiders 12.

38th min: And on the back of a penalty, the Raiders trap Inglis in-goal. Can they even things up here just before the break?

36th min: But John Sutton spills it to let the Raiders off the hook.

35th min: The Raiders are trapped in-goal and Souths will have another dropout.

29th min: Hold the phone, the video refs have gotten one right! TRY! Nathan Merritt made a meal of cleaning up Sam Williams's grubber to the in-goal. Croker snuck around the outside and got a hand on it and all of a sudden the Green Machine is back in business. Croker's had a Crocker with the conversion though, missing it from an easy angle again. Souths 14 - Raiders 8.

29th min: We're going to the video ref for a possible Raiders try to Jarrod Croker!

23rd min: TRY! That was a better sight of Edrick Lee! A beautiful Robinson ball sent the debutant winger on a flying run down the left touchline. Lee turns the ball back inside and Croker does well to handle it under pressure to score in the left corner for Canberra. Croker sprays the conversion and it's Souths 14 - Raiders 4.

22nd min: He is human! Inglis knocks on and the Raiders touch the ball for the first time since the 1994 grand final.

21st min: Souths bust the Raiders easily again and finish the set off by trapping Pelo in goal. They are going in for the kill from this line dropout.

18th min: TRY! Stop the fight! Lovely inside-outside balls there allows big GI to split the defence from 40m out. He stepped inside Reece Robinson easily to score under the posts. Reynolds converts from in front and it could get very, very ugly here. Souths 14 - Raiders 0.

16th min: TRY! And big Dave Taylor embarrasses Jarrod Croker and Sam Williams out wide to stroll over in the right corner. Croker might be able to score a try but his defence at times is very suspect. Reynolds misses the conversion from out wide. Souths 8 - Raiders 0.

15th min: And in a big surprise, the Raiders are getting hammered in the penalty count with another soft penalty on the tryline.

14th min: Oh dear. Reece Robinson has turned into Braith Anasta there. That kick-off nearly ends up back in Canberra and Souths will have a penalty on halfway.

12th min: TRY! Justin Hunt goes over in the left corner for Souths after Inglis delivers a great ball at the end of a sweeping backline movement to the left. And as Warren Smith would say: "The Rabbitohs will play from in front tonight." Adam Reynolds just pulls the conversion from the touchline. Souths 4 - Raiders 0.

10th min: Game of the year so far. A big bust from Tom Learoyd-Lahrs gives the Raiders great field position, but Josh McCrone spills the pill on the last tackle under no pressure. Another penalty now for Souths.

8th min: The Rabbitohs get a penalty on the fourth tackle but great defence early in the next set from the Raiders forces Dave Taylor into an error.

6th min: Edrick Lee's first touch in the NRL is a bad one. He knocked on a pass that was well behind him to give Souths the ball 40m out.

5th min: But a nothing kick from Williams at the end of the set is easily diffused by Souths.

3rd min: Promising first set from the Raiders, but Sam Williams spills a bomb at the end of the set. And the Bunnies turn the ball straight back over. Early chance for the Raiders.

1st min: Even though Inglis was named in the centres, he's taken his regular spot at fullback for the Bunnies.

Kick-off: We're under way here at ANZ Stadium.

Team news: In an early blow for the Raiders, Jack Wighton has been ruled out with a toe injury. Dimitri Pelo, who came to the club from French rugby union over the off-season, will make his NRL debut in Wighton's place. Greg Inglis has been named at centre on Souths' official team sheet, with Nathan Merritt at fullback. Matt King is out. Dave Taylor comes into the starting line-up

Preamble: Raiders stars Blake Ferguson and Josh Dugan will be watching from the sidelines tonight after being slapped with a one-match ban for boozing it up in breach of club policy. For that alone, many will be writing off the Raiders. The Rabbitohs, however, are hoping last week's extra-time win can propel them into finals contention.
