Live: Bulldogs v Eels

Be sure to grab a copy of tomorrow's Herald or log on to smh.com.au for all the wash-up from Colonel Michael Chammas and Brad Walter.  Join us again tomorrow night when Sonny Phil Mitchell will be in the blog seat as the Tigers take on the Panthers at Campbelltown.  Thanks again and good night.

The siren sounds and that's it from us tonight.  The Bulldogs take the points 32-12, a relatively comprehensive six-tries-to-two win.  Plenty of standouts for the Dogs as they rack up a seventh straight win, and I'll wager the man of the match honours will come out of Kris Keating, Ben Barba or the double tryscorer Jonathan Wright.

That's another two from Krisnan Inu and the Bulldogs have streaked ahead by 20.  32-12 and still time for some more icing on the cake.

74 min: TRY to the Bulldogs.  The Dogs again go to that corner through Kris Keating and fellow former Eel Jonathan Wright seems to hang in the air for an eternity before plucking the ball and bagging the try.  That's a double for him and now the heat's on Josh Morris to find a third.  Bulldogs 30-12 with a kick to come.

73 min: Sandow attempts the 40-20 again and it's no good as Sam Perrett takes it up for the Dogs.

70 min: Ben Barba there to clean up at the back for the Doggies but there'll be a line dropout and another set for the Eels.  Crowd of 31,102 on hand at ANZ Stadium tonight which is a fantastic start to the rivalry round.

68 min: Luke Burt does well to field a swirling high ball under his goalposts.

Inu nails the conversion from right in front and that's the Bulldogs out by more than two converted tries.  Bulldogs 26 Eels 12.

65 min:
TRY to the Bulldogs Game over.  The Eels play like they think they can win this match, and then they defend like that. Josh Reynolds gets the ball, steps off his right foot, weaves between a few more and crosses under the sticks.  Bulldogs 24, Eels 12 with a kick to come.

64 min: Sam Perrett picks up an intercept on the halfway line and the Dogs are back on the attack.

62 min: Greg Eastwood knocks on and the Eels must have a sniff here.

60 min: Keating again kicks to the corner where all the action has been tonight and he's forced the error.  Six again.

Josh Reynolds attempts a shoulder charge on Cheyse Blair.  Why not.  Just part of footy.

Inu hooks that one and it remains an eight-point games.  Bulldogs 20 Eels 12 as the hour mark looms.

57 min: TRY to the Bulldogs.  Jonathan Wright crosses in the corner for the Bulldogs' fourth, once again Barba the man who provides the pivotal pass.  Bulldogs 20, Eels 12 with a Krisnan Inu kick to come.

Nathan Hindmarsh has thrown a forward pass looking for a cheeky offload and the Dogs will have a great opportunity here.

54 min: Ennis caught with the ball on the last and that's some great defence from Parra.  Turnover 10m out from their line.

52 min: Burt takes the Bulldogs kick dead and it will be a repeat set for Des Hasler's side.

51 min: Josh Reynolds manages to get two opportunities at a good kick and fails to come up with it on either occasion.  Eels back in possession and they kick early on the fourth looking for a 40-20 but instead finding one Benjamin Barba.

50 min: The Barba-Morris combination looks like reaping dividends again.  Dogs 20m out now with tackles in hand.

Luke Burt cuts the margin to four with a successful conversion.  Bulldogs 16 Eels 12.

45 min: TRY to Parramatta.  Where has this been all year?  Sandow cuts the Dogs to pieces up the middle before getting the ball away to Ryan Morgan who gets it to Ken Sio who in turn offloads back to Morgan who takes three defenders over the line.  Great stuff.  Bulldogs still ahead though, 16-10 with a Parramatta kick to come.

43 min: Barba in space after fielding a Sandow kick.  Makes about 30m off the zero tackle.

Parramatta get us under way for the second term, and here's Chammas's take on the opening 40 minutes:

Canterbury were strong out of the blocks but Parramatta did well to get back in the game and are unlucky to be heading into the sheds trailling by 10 points. Joseph Paulo added a new dimension to the Eels attack when he came on, but they couldn't penetrate the Bulldogs wall. Ben Barba hasn't had many touches of the ball, but he's made them all count, scoring a try and setting up two others for Josh Morris. Parramatta aren't out of this game yet, but it's going to take something special to chase down the Bulldogs. Who knows, if they keep throwing the ball around they may find a way through their defence.

The teams are making their way back onto the paddock and the second half is just moments away.  As, I'm assured, is the half-time wrap from the great MC Hammas.

Inu converts and that will do us for the first half.  We'll be back in a few moments with all the news from the break and the half-time report from the Herald's man on the ground, the chicken king himself, Michael Chammas.  Back soon.  Bulldogs 16 Eels 6 at the break.

39 min: TRY to the Bulldogs.  Josh Morris gets his second after some lovely second-man work gets the ball to Barba who does it just as well as he did to set up the Doggies' first try.  Bulldogs 14 Eels 6, kick to come, and that'll just about be half-time.

Luke Burt getting some assistance now.

38 min: Inu busts a few tackles before Reynolds kicks cross-field.  Ken Sio knocks it on but Josh Morris can't quite get to the line.  The Dogs have the scrum feed and one more shot at extending their lead before the siren.

37 min: A drilling kick from Chris Sandow looked a bit too heavy off the boot and rolls over the dead-ball line.  Back to the 20m for the restart from Canterbury-Bankstown.

Sam Perrett takes a beautiful, umm, take before the Dogs earn a penalty and the subsequent piggyback downfield.

33 min: Sam Kasiano forced to knock the kick into touch and the Eels will have a repeat set as half-time approaches.

32 min: PENALTY to the Eels.

Ben Barba getting some attention from the trainer presently but it doesn't look too serious.

29 min: Sio kicks to the same corner he scored in minutes ago but this time the Dogs are more than equal to the task.

28 min: Six again for the Eels inside the Dogs' half.

27 min: A little sloppiness coming in for the Dogs here - Aiden Tolman loses it on the last in the play-the-ball.

Barba instantly makes good on that error.  The Eels spread wide following a nice ball from Sandow before barba and Josh Reynolds bundle the would-be tryscorer into touch.  And a little push and shove ensues for good measure.

Parramatta on the attack 10m out on the second tackle.

24 min: Ben Barba the villain there for the Bulldogs after spilling a high ball.  Perhaps still a little suspect under the bomb.

CHANGE for the Dogs.  David Stagg on and Greg Eastwood is heading for a breather.

CHANGE for the Eels.  Taulima Tautai on for Tim Mannah.

23 min: Parramatta looking dangerous heading toward the right corner before Krisnan Inu gets his foot to the Eels kick.

21 min: Knock-on from Josh Morris, who looked like he had a bit of help as well.  Eels back in possession.

Kasiano off for the Dogs.

19 min: Sandow finds touch with a kick from inside his own 40m, but unfortunately just a few metres short of the Dogs' 20m zone.

Luke Burt adds the extras.  Bulldogs 10 Eels 6.  Could there be a game here?

16 min: TRY to the Eels. Yes, the Eels.  The yellow and blue guys.  Joseph Paulo chips to the corner and a flying Sio gets the four-pointer.  And a knee in the head for his trouble.  Bulldogs 10 Eels 4, kick to come.

16 min: Ken Sio makes a bust to halfway for Parramatta before being dragged to ground, and almost into touch.

16 min: The Doggies looked like scoring again with some nice passing on the last before Krisnan Inu throws it into touch.

14 min: The Eels can't take a trick.  Matthew Ryan floats a ball to Sandow who thinks he's through but, unfortunately, it was about four miles forward.  Nothing wrong with that call.

12 min: Once again Luke Burt is sent back towards his own line.  There's an intensity in the Bulldogs defence that suggests they know they're on the cusp of something special.

Inu can barely keep the smile off his face before landing that conversion.  He smells a thrashing here, and so does your humble blogger.  Bulldogs 10, Parramatta 0, and the top of the table looks like being theirs for the taking.

9 min: TRY to Ben Barba.  The fullback has run 99 metres to score off his own line displaying some spectacular acceleration in the process.  Parramatta's defence was atrocious, but take nothing away from this bloke.  He's an excitement machine.  Bulldogs 8-0, kick to come.

8 min: Fuifui Moimoi looks like he'll be back in the action before too long.

Krisnan Inu unable to add the extras, Bulldogs 4-0.

6 min: TRY to the Bulldogs.  The attack shifts left to create the overlap before a textbook ball from, who else, Ben Barba to, who else, Josh Morris, sends the centre over.  Bulldogs 4 Eels 0, kick to come.

5 min: Greg Eastwood almost makes it through.

4 min: Ryan Morgan can't contain the kick and it's a double knock-on.  Repeat set for the Dogs.

3 min: Ennis juggles to keep it alive for the Dogs on the fourth.

2 min: Reni Maitua has spilled it in the play-the-ball and the Dogs are 40m out with the feed.

2 min: Josh Reynolds kick is fielded by Burt who is driven back towards his own line by the relentless Bulldogs defence.

1 min: A bit more legal that time from Kasiano but no less brutal a hit as he teams up with Frank Pritchard.  Plenty of feeling out there.

1 min: The Dogs get us under way and big FuiFui takes the first hit-up, before being caught high by Sam Kasiano.  Probably a send-off ten years ago in the days of more authoritative referees.  PENALTY to the Eels, Sam will be on report, and probably spending a few weeks running the drinks.

Israel Folau is in the crowd checking out what he's missing as the sides make their way down the tunnel.

There's been a reshuffle at the back for the Eels, with fullback Jake Mullaney out.  The veteran Luke Burt shifts back to No.1, while Cheyse Blair goes to the wing.

Welcome to ANZ Stadium for tonight's clash between the Doggies and the Eels.  What to say about this one?  Parramatta were only spared their umpteenth flogging of the year last week by Manly taking their foot off the pedal, and the first clash between these two this year ended up 46-12 in favour of the Dogs.  Could it be a black Friday for the Eels?  Perhaps the stat of most note is that a Dogs win of 37 or more will put them on top of the table, at least for 12 or so hours....

Join the Twitter Outlaw, James Polson, as the Bulldogs host the Eels.

Greg Prichard writes: The hapless Eels are at any old odds to win against the red-hot Bulldogs, who have won six in a row to be pressing the Storm for top spot on the table. The Eels are at the bottom, and are missing superstar Jarryd Hayne. The Bulldogs have already belted the Eels once this season, 46-12 in round nine, and have won the past three clashes between the two teams.

AAP writes: It’s hard not to feel sympathy for Eels coach Stephen Kearney. If being bottom of the ladder is not bad enough, his side shipped 40 points in almost as many minutes against Manly last week. And if facing a red-hot Canterbury side isn’t bad enough, he’s lost consistent hooker Matt Keating for the year through injury in addition to Jarryd Hayne. The Bulldogs are the form team in the competition and this could be another night of misery for long-suffering Parramatta fans.

Key: The Bulldogs forwards are the kings of the offload and destroyed the Eels when the sides last met in round nine. If Sam Kasiano and co get on a roll, it could be messy.

BULLDOGS: Ben Barba, Sam Perrett, Josh Morris, Krisnan Inu, Jonathan Wright, Josh Reynolds, Kris Keating, Aiden Tolman, Michael Ennis (c), Sam Kasiano, Frank Pritchard, Dene Halatau, Greg Eastwood. Interchange (from): James Graham, Dale Finucane, Corey Payne, David Stagg, Josh Jackson.
