That's all from me. Keep a look out later today for Fairfax Media's live coverage of the Sharks clash with the Titans from 6.30pm.

Fulltime: A perfect start for the Panthers, a dismal day for the Raiders - Penrith running away with the game 32-10 over a disappointing Canberra outfit. The Panthers controlled the second half and never gave the Raiders a sniff, terrific effort for Ivan Cleary's new-look side. David Furner has a lot of work to do with the Raiders before next week's trip to the Gold Coast.

As my colleague exclaims, ''the Plum dog''! You know it's your day when Nigel Plum gets across the stripe. It'll be a big night at the foot of the mountains as the Panthers romp to victory. Panthers 30, Raiders 10 KTC

Into junk time now, the Raiders letting a dangerous high ball hit the turf and are lucky to recover a couple of metres out. Disappointing first-up effort from the Green Machine. Very underwhelming.

Walsh converts and the Panthers are cruising to the finish line. Ivan Cleary will be stoked with this performance, especially of his new recruits. Panthers 26; Raiders 10

Game, set match for the Penrith Panthers as Nathan Smith finishes off a great move. Mansour recovers a clever Coote grubber kick, jinks inside and finds a waiting Smith to waltz over the line. A deserved victory for the Panthers. Panthers 24; Raiders 10 KTC

Wrong call from Sandor Earl to go down the blindside on the last tackle a few metres out. The Raiders winger is forced over touch and the chance goes begging. Only six minutes left.

Strange call from the Panthers to take the shot at goal. Would've been the fourth set in a row against a tired Raiders defensive line. Walsh extends the gap to 10 points, 12 minutes to go. Panthers 20; Raiders 10.

Raiders barely hanging out here, but they haven't surrended. Blake Ferguson knocks the ball over the dead ball line in desperation to prevent another Panthers try. Yet another penalty gives the Panthers a fresh set of six.

Sandor Earl's mixed day continues at his old club, the Raiders winger bundled over the sideline after catching a cross-field kick a couple metres out from his own line. The Raiders remain squarely under the pump.

How did Luke Walsh not score? Fantastic late tackle from McIlwrick to stop the Panthers halfback, but the Raiders knock a pass down a couple of tackles later to keep the pressure on.

How good has Dean Whare been? Showed a bit of promise at Manly, but will be an absolute steal in fantasy football teams going on today's performance. Looks at lock for the Panthers' No 1 jersey for the rest of the season.

Whare gives Sam Williams the old don't argue to give Josh Mansour an extra 10m up the field. The skills haven't always been the sharpest, but no shortage of big hits from both sides.

Croker misses the conversion and the Raiders are still two scores adrift of the Panthers. Panthers 18; Raiders 10

What control from Blake Ferguson to put the Raiders back in the game! Sensational pick-up from the representative centre, juggles the ball and tip toes down the touchline to score in the corner. To see they needed that would be a massive understatement. Panthers 18; Raiders 10

A close call for the Panthers, David Simmons knocks the ball over the dead-ball line to deny Joel Thompson. Well-weighted grubber kick from Sam Williams.

Dugan safe as houses under the high ball. Superb take as the defenders rush into him. The Raiders desperately need a good set to get themselves some valuable field position.

Panthers on the verge of running away with this. They've got all the possession and have forced the Raiders into a heap of defence. Walsh converts. Panthers 18; Raiders 6

The Panthers extend their lead as Coote wins the race to a clever Luke Walsh grubber. We're going upstairs to have a look at it. McCrone had a go at it, but couldn't hold on to the ball, allowing Coote to follow through and get the chocolates. Panthers 16; Raiders 6 KTC

Terrible recognition from Matt McIlwrick to have no idea it was the fifth tackle. Turns the ball over 40m out from his own line, Panthers on the attack yet again.

Mayhem in the Raiders defensive line as Whare makes a searching break off the kick-return. Panthers looking a lot better than what I expected given their ho hum off-season signings. Again force the Raiders to bring the ball back 10m out.

Ice beanies - what will the Raiders think of next? Players donned beanies at halftime sunk in eskies to counteract the searing western Sydney heat. Let's see if it makes an impact in the second half

Halftime: A controversial first half ends with the Panthers leading the Raiders 12-6. New boys Manu and Segeyaro have scored for the Panthers, with more than a hint of doubt over Segeyaro's try for a possible obstruction. The Raiders can also feel hard done by for Sandor Earl's try being disallowed when his fingertips attempted to still be on the ball. Josh McCrone has scored the lone try for the Raiders.

Luke Walsh converts the try and the Panthers take a 12-6 lead into halftime. Panthers 12; Raiders 6

First Sika Manu, now it's James Segeyaro scoring for the Panthers in their first game for the club. Clever play from the dummy-half to sneak out close to the line, goes low and plants the ball on the line. The video ref gives the green light after a couple of quick looks for a possible obstruction. McCrone asking the ref why it wasn't given. Panthers 10; Raiders 6

Fantastic take of the high ball from Earl. Has to play well given that awful hair style he's sporting. But another penalty against the Raiders has the Panthers in great position.

A mistake from Sam Williams lets the Panthers off the hook. Both sides will be wishing the halftime siren sounds anytime now, looking really rusty in the hot conditions.

Referee getting a bit whistle happy here, another penalty, this time for the Panthers being inside the 10m. Great chance for the Raiders close to halftime.

What a massive shot from Papalii! Nathan Smith's going to be feeling that one for a few days. You can see why the Raiders were so keen to keep the back-rower.

Penrith on the attack again after the Raiders are penalised for holding down in the ruck. Costly mistake in this heat.

Croker slots the conversion from in front and we're all square after half an hour. Raiders 6; Panthers 6

Where did that come from? The Raiders are on the board through Josh McCrone, but they can thank Matt McIlwrick for that one. Dynamic run out of dummy-half from the Kiwi. A few question marks on the pass, but the Raiders won't argue. Panthers 6; Raiders 4 KTC

After giving Coote a wrap a few minutes ago, he pulls of a terrible chip kick when in the clear. Coote got a great offload from Latimore to get in open space, but his kick goes straight to Dugan. A kick to the wing would've found Mansour in space.

Fantastic tackle from another new recruit James Segeyaro forces the ball loose from Josh Dugan. The fullback is lying on the ground and clearly in pain with that shoulder. Panthers fans should be pleased with how their new signings are going, great intensity so far.

That was a great ball by Lachlan Coote to set up Manu. Terrific hands from the diminutive five-eighth. Luke Walsh slots the conversion. Panthers 6; Raiders 0

Finally, the Panthers are rewarded for all their dominance. The powerful figure of Sika Manu barges his way over the tryline in front of Josh Dugan to score on his debut for his new club. Panthers 4-0 KTC

Jack Wighton is absolutely crunched by Wes Naiqama taking a bomb. Sensational hit by the former Knight to force the ball free and give the Panthers possession only 20m out.

Take a deep breathe Raiders fans - Josh Dugan is clutching his shoulder. Looks like the same one he had massive trouble with last year. The gun fullback is playing through it at the moment after talking to the trainer.

Jack Wighton swoops on a Joel Thompson tip from a bomb to dive over the line, but Thompson is ruled to have knocked it forward. Couldn't have been much in it, but we'll give the referee the benefit of the doubt. Still scoreless after 18 minutes.

This is an absolute mistake fest from both sides, no guess it's round one. The Panthers forwards are carving up metres with ease, but are getting let down by their outside backs in the Raiders attacking zone. Raiders aren't much better, very scrappy start.

Welcome back to Penrith, Sandor Earl ... or not. Looked like the winger had done superbly well to acrobatically hang in mid-air while grounding the ball in the corner, but it's been over-ruled by the video ref. Appeared like he had his fingertips on it when it hit the turf. Unlucky blow for the Raiders after surviving the early pressure.

Great second-phase play from the Panthers, but the Raiders pounce on the loose ball. The Panthers have dominated the opening 10 minutes. The Raiders will need to send out a search party to find the Panthers try line.

It's all Panthers early on, but the Raiders are hanging on grimely. What was Jarrod Croker thinking? He rushes out of the line, and fortunately Naiqama drops the pass and the Raiders are off the hook.

The cut-out pass from Dean Whare has too much on it and it goes over the top of winger David Simmons. Would've been a certain try for the Panthers if it had stuck. Good pressure from Jarrod Croker on Whare.

You can't miss Sandor Earl with his bleached-blonde hair, and he's made an early blunder right in front of the Panthers crowd. Geez, you don't want to drop the ball only 20m out. He'll be copping it from the Panthers faithful.

The Raiders are kicking off and we're away at Centrebet Stadium

Just a couple of minutes to kick-off here at Centrebet Stadium. The Raiders have firmed massively in the betting markets with the inclusion of Dugan and Croker. The Panthers are a total unknown, with six club debutants. Expecting a free-flowing, entertaining game in perfect conditions.

That's fulltime in the Holden Cup, with the Panthers running out comprehensive 40-16 winners. On to the main game, and the two changes for the Raiders, both expected. Dugan and Croker back in, with Reece Robinson and Edrick Lee missing out. Just one change for the Panthers - Brad Tighe out and Geoff Daniela in. Kickoff at 2pm.

Join us from 2pm as the Raiders take on the Panthers at Penrith.

Penrith have recruited almost a whole team who will be expected to take a while to gel. Their lack of a genuine matchwinner is a major worry for coach Ivan Cleary, who will be relying on a team first approach to garner success.

Raiders mentor David Furner has impressed upon his men the need to start the season well and not rely on another stunning end-of-season charge to make the finals. The Panthers will be tough to beat at home but the Raiders look to have too much firepower up front and out wide in this one.

Key: With Terry Campese set to return from injury sooner rather than later, Raiders halves Josh McCrone and Sam Williams will be keen to put their cases forward to play alongside the former Kangaroo when he makes his long awaited comeback.
