    Live: Broncos v Titans

    Date
    Sort posts by:

Fulltime here at Suncorp. Not quite the hiding that the Rabbitohs put on but it was very ugly for the Titans. Brisbane belt them 32-6 on the back of a 24-0 first half, where the Titans at one point conceded 10 penalties to Brisbane's none. Parker, Gillett, Wallace, Hunt all good for Brisbane. The Titans were caught in the headlights and never recovered.

There is bad news for the Broncos however with David Stagg suffering a potentially serious knee injury.

Matt Gillett has been very good for Brisbane tonight. Just cut Idris in half there as the big fella tried to bust the line. He's a quality young backrower and absolute certainty for the Maroons. Taylor makes a late bust but that's game over.

I think this is a try for Idris. He's come down with that kick and it's.... no try. Just came up short and that's probably the right call, although I wouldn't have been outraged if that call had gone the other way. Nothing in it really. Brisbane hold on to the 32-6 lead. The penalty count is 13-6 now so the Titans have found some favour this half.

Is this a try for Brisbane? This will be some sort of offload. It was in fact a great offload from Kahu but Maranta's foot was on the line as he caught the ball. No try. Score is still 32-6 in favour of Brisbane.

The Titans show some promise at last but the kick as poor and it goes dead. Brisbane scrambled very well there though as Kelly found a few mini gaps. Score remains 32-6. There's 10 minutes to play.

The Titans get away with what looked like another forward pass there but drop it anyway. Heart just not in it tonight, nor their head. Granville looking sharp for the Broncos. They have a real dilemma now with McCullough and Hunt also on the books. He's the kind of kid who will get snapped up if he can't fit in the rotation at Red Hill. Broncos lead 32-6. There's 12 minutes to play.

TRY Brisbane. Granville with the little chip ahead and the Titans fall over themselves trying to clean it up. Lachlan Maranta gets the simple bounce and scores under the sticks. Zillman just plain stacked it trying to field the kick. Like a dog on ice skates. That didn't look very good. But nice touch from Granville. Parker makes it eight from eight. Broncos lead 32-6.

Nate Myles late on Wallace and the halfback goes down. He's been hit hard late a few times tonight. Myles thinks the Brisbane half has gone down a bit easy there and tells him all about it. Penalty though and Parker makes it 26-4. Brisbane in cruise control with 20 minutes to play.

Sezer tries the cross-kick on the 50m line. It goes out on the full. Best forget that ever happened.

Uh-ohhhh. David Stagg clutching the knee, which is already heavily taped, and he knows he's in very big trouble here. The look on his face says it all. He's helped off the field and that's him for the night and quite possibly the season.

My twitter feed is a cross between NRL and eurovision at the moment. Only making a strange night stranger. Anyone see how Estonia went? In other news, the Titans go close but two of those passes are clearly forward. they end up making the mistake as Granville flies out of the line to pressure Bailey. Brisbane lead 24-6.

Sezer's kick is too deep and the Broncos bring it back to their 20m line for a restart. Jarrod Wallace warming up and now Jake Granville getting ready to make his NRL debut. Really looking forward to this - and he knocks on with his first touch. Weeeeee! Brisbane lead 24-6.

Reed still being seen by the doctor. An eye injury I think, a stray finger I think. He's coming off now as McGuire, who also bad a bad eye injury earlier in the year, takes his place.

TRY to the Titans and that was one hell of a reply. Idris with the offload, Kelly in support and Mead puts on the finishing touches. Broncos lead 24-6 as Jack Reed gets some treatment.

We're back on for the second half. Lordi (eurovision reference) knows what John Cartwright said at halftime to the Titans. But they need early points here to be a quarter of a chance.

If the first half in Sydney wasn't so extraordinary, you'd think this game was right out of the box. The Broncos in complete command, taking a 24-0 lead into the second half on the back of a whopping 10-2 penalty count in their favour. The Titans saw Greg Bird go to the bin, Dave Taylor go on report and Jamal Idris almost decapitate Peter Wallace. They are a mess the Gold Coast and will need to turn things around dramatically to even feature in this one.

The Titans get their first bit of quality ball and look semi-dangerous. They even manage to avoid giving away a penalty. In fact, that count has squared up a touch to 10-2 to Brisbane. The Broncos well in control here, leading 24-0 with a few seconds left in the half.

Parker from the sideline again. It's 24-0. Funny old game, football.

Super finish from Reed. Makes the spectacular put down in the corner and Brisbane extend the lead. It's now 22-0 with a kick on the way and I cannot remember a stranger half from the Titans. If this was bush footy they'd have about six blokes in the bin. Discipline out the window folks. OUT THE WINDOW.

Make it 10-0 in the penalty column. Dave Taylor on report with a late and reckless high shot on Peter Wallace after the kick. I can confirm the Titans have LOST THE PLOT. Brisbane lead 18-0 with six minutes to play in the second half.

Something had to be done. Another penalty against the Titans and Greg Bird GOES TO THE BIN. They had been warned about repeated infringements and Bird goes high and then gets marched. Penalty count is now 9-0.

WOW! This is not looking good for Jamal Idris. He clothelines Jack Reed like Randy Savage and given what we saw last week, he's lucky to be on the park. In fact, he's not even on report! Incredible. It was spectacular to say the least. And Ryan James this time - gives away another penalty! It's 8-0 in favour of Brisbane in the penalty count. Absolutely horrid half for the Titans. Right in front again - free points. It's 18-0 to the Broncos.

Another two points for the Broncos. Being gifted penalties. They lead 16-0 after 28 minutes. Titans not even close to being in this game at the moment.

Bad news for NSW - Greg Bird on the deck and in some pain after he collided with his teammate Harrison during a tackle. Head into hip and he's having some pain in his neck. He's still down. Game has stopped for the moment as Brisbane lead 14-0. But he's going back to the line - he's nothing if not tough this bloke.

Fifth tackle penalty given away by Dave Taylor. Wowee, that's a coach-killer. That's a pretty soft penalty on the replay as he tugged the leg. And now Taylor pinged for a high tackle! Suspect he won't be on the park for too much longer. Cartwright has surely seen enough for the moment.

They did take the two. Brisbane lead 14-0. They are having a race with the Rabbitohs at the moment. The Bunnies flogging the Tigers at the moment. Follow that live coverage here.

Back to back penalties to the Broncos. The Titans are off with the fairies tonight. I can smell another try here, although this would be a gift two points. Brisbane lead 12-0.

Titans players absolutely walking here. They haven't turned up so far. To make it worse, Ash Harrison is battling out there. Has taken a knock to the head and has it bandaged up but is only getting around at half pace. In saying that, there's a slightly better set for the Titans. They trail 12-0.

Beau 'Last Chance' Falloon missed that tackle on Thaiday and has duly been hooked by John Cartwright. He might be injured but that's not as good of a story. Srama on at hooker now for the Titans as McCullough makes a blue for Brisbane. Broncos lead 12-0.

TRY Brisbane. Thaiday from dummy half. Scoots over like Greg Conescu. Right under the posts and the Titans are getting pummeled early. Thaiday sells the dummy (take not, Andrew McCullough) and barrels over. It's 12-0 to Brisbane after 10 minutes.

Massive bomb now from Sezer. It was so high that the entire Titans team was transfixed and didn't bother chasing. Corey Norman takes it untroubled but that was a better set from the Gold Coast. Broncos lead 6-0 thanks to the early try from Hoffman. And now a penalty to put them in even better shape.

Midfield bomb! Bring that back. Albert Kelly, you are my hero. But Hoffman races forward and swallows it with ease. Boy he's having a good season for the Broncos.

The kick is good from out wide and Brisbane lead 6-0. You don't get much of a better start than that.

TRY! Josh Hoffman gets another. Brisbane are over in the second minute. Wow. That was ridiculously easy.

An early mistake here form Sezer who kicks it right into Nate Myles. Brisbane scrum 30m out to give them the perfect chance to apply early pressure. At least it didn't hit Myles in the head. That's hard to miss.

A moment of silence before the kick-off here to honour Luke Douglas' mother, who passed away during the week. Touching stuff and we're away with the Broncos kicking towards the brewery end of the ground.

Steve Renouf up on the big screen before the game. What a player he was. Shame there is no Hodges tonight and his rib injury does leave him in some doubt for Origin 1. But I suspect he'll pull through - he always manages to find a way to get there for an Origin game.

Good evening folks. I'm at Suncorp Stadium for the derby between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Some intrigue here not only in the game but the Origin auditions of a large number of these players. Let's hope none of them fall over, although Justin Hodges has already been ruled out with a rib complaint.

Some changes for Brisbane with Scott Anderson back to the Queensland Cup and a very interesting addition to the bench in Jake Granville, the Wynnum Manly hooker who won a Qld Cup Player of the Year award at fullback. He's absolute lightning from dummy half and will be worth keeping an eye out for. I rate him pretty highly so let's see how much time he gets from Anthony Griffin. The Titans are 1-17.
