The Storm showed too much class in dismissing the Roosters tonight. Whether the Roosters were off their game is a moot point, the fact is the Storm controlled and limited the effectiveness of the Roosters attack with their own hard defence and it told on the scoreboard. Sonny Bill Williams was not at his powerful, direct best, Mitchell Pearce didn't command the match with ball in hand while poor decision-making and kicking letting his side down.

Conversely, the Storm ground out the game, with the effectiveness of Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk stunning the Roosters early. Jason Ryles was huge from the bench for the Storm with Kevin Proctor was heavily involved as well. The Storm had to respond after their run of poor results and did so against fellow comptition contenders.

Fulltime: Luke O'Donnell caught Jason Ryles with the high shot with Boyd Cordner raising his shoulder into the challenge as well. Unnecessary tackle with the Roosters set to have at least one more set of six and a chance to steal the game. Cameron Smith converts on fulltime. All over here at Allianz Stadium.
    Roosters 18 Storm 26

77th min: Try Roosters. Tuivasa-Sheck dives over in the corner from a beautiful set play by the Roosters. James Maloney converts from the sideline. The Roosters have 2 1/2 minutes to get something from this match.
We have a thriller on our hands here.
    Roosters 18 Storm 24.

76th min: Another penalty to the Storm. Roosters failed to get out of the play the ball quickly enough. Cameron Smith converts.
    Roosters 12 Storm 24

69th min: A high ball from the Roosters is for once put down by the Storm before SBW collects and dops it forward. The Roosters can't buy a trick with that play tonight. Cronk finds touch to slow the play down in from of just over 19,000 fans at Allianz Stadium.
    Roosters 12 Storm 22

65th min: Another kick way too deep from James Maloney and the Roosters who again march back to the 20m line to start their set.

63rd min: Try Storm.  Michael Jennings intercepts a ball out of Tupou's hands and streaks upfield before being cut down by Maloney. Will Chambers scores for the Storm two tackles later. Cameron Smith misses the conversion. The Roosters have failed to convert their pressure into consecutive sets, letting the Storm off the hook with loose passes.

On report: Cooper Cronk could be in hot water for this tackle with Kevin Proctor on Mahe Fonua.

60th min: Kevin Proctor and Cooper Cronk penalised for a dangerous lift and tackle on Tuivasa-Sheck. Cronk is placed on report much to the joy of the Roosters faithful.

59th min: Held-up: Jordan McLean tried to push his way over the line but is ruled to have been held-up by three Roosters defenders as the Storm experience good possession in the Roosters half.

The Roosters seem content to kick the ball high rather than make committed runs with it. I know it's greasy out there but with their size, they need the ball in hand against a team that no-doubt practices high-ball drills all day at training.

Billy Slater blocks off Daniel Tupou expertly as Sisa Waqa takes a high ball with aplomb. Have not seem much of SBW so far in attack, he needs to take control with some of his trademark runs and offloads if the Roosters are to get back into this one.

Cameron Smith produces a beautiful kick into the Roosters in-goal under pressure. A great chase from the Storm team traps Tuicasa-Sheck in-goal. Line drop-out Roosters. More pressure here for them to adsorb.

46th min: Mitchell Pearce charged down by Ryan Hoffman who himself is called up for a knock-on. Unlucky for Hoffman who was away in space - his pinky just touching the ball before it hit the ground after the ball bounced off his leg.

45th min: Penalty Roosters deep in Storm territory. Lama Tasi produces a strong run deep into the Storm defence.

42nd min: Gareth Widdop knocks-on under pressure from Sonny Bill Williams. Canny work by SBW there as he grabbed the arm of Widdop, not the ball, forceing the five-eighth to drop the ball. Relief for the Roosters sho can get out of their own half early in the second period.
    Roosters 12 Storm 18

Play back underway at Allianz Stadium as Jason Ryles gets smashed in the first tackle. That looked illegal, infact it is. Penatly Storm.

Michael Carayannis is at the Stadium for League HQ, here are his halftime comments.

"Irate fans have filled Allianz Stadium, with the Roosters faithful absolutely filthy  with the match officials. Forget the tries or dropped balls, the biggest roar came when referees Shayne Hayne and Ashley Klein walked from the field at half-time.

And they have every right to be a little miffed with the way the match has been headed. The Roosters did well to crawl their way back in the game but a try right on half-time may prove too much against the defending premiers."

40th min: Is this a try on halftime for the Storm? Cooper Cronk kicked crossfield into the in-goal. It was then fumbled by Michael Jennings under pressure from Billy Slater only for Cameron Smith to pounce and score for the Storm.
    Roosters 12 Storm 18

39th min: Billy Slater drops the ball from a Maloney kick. Did that ball go forward? The crowd think so and are letting the ref know.

37th min: The Roosters confidence is back after their slow start. They have dominated possession in the past ten minutes. The Storm look a little rattled.

35th min: Try Roosters as Michael Jennings pounces opportunistically on a Sis Waqa fumble. It's been referred but should be a try. James Maloney converts.
    Roosters 12 Storm 12

35th min: Knock-on Storm as Gareth Widdop fumbles the ball. Can't blame him with SBW bearing down on him.

32rd min: Justin O'Neill marks the Mitchell Pearce kick, turning his body on the approaching Tuivasa-Sheck. Great aerial defence by the Storm centre.

30th min: Jason Ryles takes down Mitchell Pearce well after he kicks the ball on the fifth tackle. Roosters in with a chance here ten out from the Storm's line.

On the back of a smart set of six from the Roosters, the high kick lands safely in Billy Slater's hands and off he goes. Beats one, beats two defenders as he makes 30 yards. James Maloney looks hurt in the tackle and is penalised for not getting up quick enough. Storm in good field position for an attack here.
    Roosters 6 Storm 12

25th min: Try Roosters as Nathan Friend plays a smart short ball to Luke O'Donnell who bulldozes his way over the line under the posts. The Roosters are starting to warm up in this one. What field position they've had they have made good use of.

22nd min: The Roosters receive a Cronk kick deep in their half and chance their arm, passing and running the ball out of defence. Great counter-attack from the Roosters through a strong run by Daniel Tupou.

20th min: The Storm are making plenty of easy metres early in the count, relieving pressure on their defence and prividing good field position for the likes of Slater and Cronk to kick effectively.

18th min: Finally a penalty for the Roosters who have been hard done by so far by the ref. They look tired and need to gain some field position and get on the front foor.

Folowing a contentious penalty, the Storm score from the followig set of six. Maurice Blair runs untouched through what has been the best defence in the NRL. Cameron Smith through Gareth Widdop's hands onto Blair who strolled across the line for the Storm. Effective decoy runs by Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk. Roosters are in trouble early. The Storm look back to their best. Cameron Smith converts.
    Roosters 0 Storm 12

12th min: Shoulder charge penalty against James Maloney on Billy Slater. Fairly innocuous challenge in my opinion. Great field position for the Storm here who have started by far the better team.

Dopped the ball: Sonny Bill Williams.

Dopped the ball: Sonny Bill Williams. Photo: Getty Images

11th min: Fumble by the Roosters as Sonny Bill WIlliams throws the ball to ground. The ball seemed to slip out of his hands. This will be a good test for the superstar up against a side which are still the benchmark of the NRL.
    Roosters 0 Storm 6

9th min: The game has settled down here after that frenetic opening couple of minutes. Both packs seem content to test eachother with direct running.
    Roosters 0 Storm 6

Perfect start for the Storm find themselves in the middle of a horror run of form having won failed to win in three matches after winning their opening seven straight.

2nd min: Try Storm. Beautiful kick by Cooper Cronk allows Billy Slater to claim the ball uncontested. A simple pad to Cameron Smith on to Justin O'Neill who crosses for the first try of the match. No contest from Mitchell Pearce. He'll have to have better defence than that in the Origin series. Cameron Smith converts from the sideline.
    Roosters 0 Storm 6

On the scoreboard: Justin O'Neill of the Storm.

1st min: Anthony Minichiello with a beautiful mark on the Roosters' fifth tackle as he leaps over the Storm's Billy Slater - that's not easy. Turned the wrong way into a tackle with the try-line beckoning. Unlucky not to score.
    Roosters 0 Storm 0

Kickoff here at Allianz Stadium as the Roosters Martin Kennedy brings back the ball for the first hit-up of the match.
