    • What a disgrace. Last week eagles blown off the park with 4+ penalties for inside 10. This weeks bulldogs back 7 meters and the guys keep their whistles in their pocket until they can finish the job.

83 min: Manly penalised for a lifting tackle on Reynolds, then marched for backchat. Hodkinson has a penalty goal attempt from 40m out, 20m in. And the former Manly player nails it! Dogs get up 32-30 to notch their seventh win from their past eight games. Manly have to consider themselves very unlucky though - the try to Reynolds should never have been awarded. We'll be hearing a lot more about that call over the weekend.

    BULLDOGS 32 (B Barba 2 J Morris F Pritchard J Reynolds tries T Hodkinson 6 goals) bt MANLY 30 (D Cherry-Evans 2 J Horo S Matai J Taufua tries J Lyon 5 goals) in golden-point extra time at Brookvale Oval. Referees: Shayne Hayne, Gavin Morris. Crowd: 12,157.

In the other game tonight, NORTH QUEENSLAND 22 (C Greenshields K Linnett B Tate A Winterstein tries J Thurston 3 goals) bt ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA 16 (B Creagh B Morris M Weyman tries J Dugan 2 goals) at WIN Stadium. Referees: Jared Maxwell, Phil Haines. Crowd: 9,035.

82 min: Cherry-Evans's long-range field goal attempt is astray. Bulldogs have the ball back.

    81 min: Manly kick off.

80 min: 30-all, and we're going to golden point. All the momentum is with Manly after their barnstorming finish. BTW, this is my first golden-point game as a blogger - I might have to put in for overtime! I don't like my chances, though.

79 min: The Brookvale Oval crowd has gone nuts as Matai crosses after a Foran kick deflects off Reynolds and sits up nicely for the Manly centre. Lyon raises the flags from out wide. I think we're going to golden point. 30-all.

77 min: Great take of a kick under pressure by Perrett.

75 min: Cherry-Evans jumps out of dummy half, exploits some tired marker defence and scores. Lyon converts. We've got a six-point game with five to go and the Manly crowd is in full voice. Bulldogs 30-24.

72 min: Terrific defence from the Dogs maintains their 12-point lead with less than nine minutes remaining. How good is Taufua, though? No one had heard of the bloke two years ago - now he is one of the best wingers in the game.

70 min: Manly applying immense pressure. Mitch Brown forced to ground a kick in the in-goal. Another dropout.

69 min: Barba forced to bat a Peta Hiku kick dead. Dogs dropout.

65 min: Manly's gamble to run the ball on the last pays off as Cherry-Evans finishes off a 60m movement, sparked by a bust by Taufua. Lyon adds the extras. Manly aren't done with yet. Dogs 30-18.

62 min: There are three things certain in life: death, taxes and Steve Matai will go down injured in a game. This time he appears to be struggling with a back injury.

58 min: Canterbury quickly regain the ascendancy with a dubious try to Reynolds, despite replays suggesting he had grounded the ball before the line then lost it. Sea Eagles coach Geoff Toovey will be fuming! Hodkinson adds the extras. Meanwhile, Watmough has left the field and the injury had been confirmed as a bad cork. Bulldogs 30-12.

57 min: Anthony Watmough in all sorts with an apparent leg injury. Maybe a bad cork. Just what NSW needs!

51 min: Manly take advantage of that dicey call when a terrific pass from Jamie Buhrer puts Justin Horo over. Lyon converts to cut the deficit to 12. Dogs 24-12.

50 min: Barba controversially ruled to have been tackled in the in-goal when it appeared as though he'd made it into the field of play. Bulldogs dropout.

43 min: Brilliant try to the Bulldogs; a succession of superb offloads and excellent support play ends with Josh Reynolds putting Barba over for his second try of the evening and sixth in four games at Brookvale. That try was very much reminiscent of the Dogs of 2012. Hodkinson makes it four from four. Bulldogs 24-6.

41 min: Manly kick off to get the second half under way. Sam Kasiano immediately puts the Dogs on the front foot with a storming run. I'd hate to try to tackle that monster!

    Bulldogs 18-6.

At WIN Stadium, North Queensland lead St George Illawarra 16-10.

40 min: Some Cherry-Evans and Lyon magic almost results in another Manly try but Barba knocks the ball out. Manly have only one tackle from a scrum win before half-time but they fail to add to their score.

38 min: Manly penalised after Hodkinson is taken late while making a clearing kick. Bulldogs set up camp again inside the Manly 20.

37 min: Manly contine to look dangerous with the ball but the Bulldogs have answered each challenge since Taufua's try.

29 min: Manly pressure the Canterbury line again but the Bulldogs' defence holds firm. The Sea Eagles are looking more threatening in attack, though.

26 min: Manly finally capitalise on their glut of possession, with Foran laying on a try to winger Jorge Taufua, who leads the NRL line breaks this season. Jamie Lyon nails the kick from the sideline. Bulldogs 18-6.

24 min: This time it's Sam Perrett who spills a Foran kick. Three straight sets for Manly.

22 min: Josh Morris leaps high but knocks on a Foran cross-field kick on the last. Back-to-back sets for Manly on the Canterbury line.

17 min: Canterbury are ripping Manly to shreds! And Hodkinson has had a hand in all of them - this time throwing a nice inside pass for Frank Pritchard to crash over. Hodkinson raises the flags. Bulldogs 18-0. It will take a special Manly comeback to reel in the Bulldogs tonight.

11 min: Canterbury jump out to a 12-point lead after another pinpoint Hodkinson kick results in a try to Ben Barba. Manly looked to have defused the bomb but Kieran Foran lost the ball and Barba pounced. Hodkinson converts. Bulldogs 12-0.

9 min: Good set by Manly amounts to nothing as Daley Cherry-Evans' kick rolls over the deadball line.

8 min: Penalty to Manly just outside the 20m. Let's see if they can make something of it.

2 min: Bulldogs centre Josh Morris breaks his season-long tryscoring drought, catching a perfect Trent Hodkinson bomb. Hodkinson converts, making it 29 from 31 this season. Morris hyperextended his knee while scoring but appears to be OK. Bulldogs 6-0.

1 min: Bulldogs kick off, but the game is not even a minute old as Manly cough up the ball on the second tackle. Bulldogs attacking their line.

Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of tonight's crucial clash at Brookvale Oval. In an extremely rare occurrence, both clubs have made no late changes to their nominated line-ups. However, Josh Jackson and James Graham have been promoted from the bench to the Bulldogs' starting line-up. Sam Kasiano and Tony Williams will start off the bench. Kick off in about 10 minutes. Enjoy!

Phil Mitchell writes: Canterbury should know whether they’ve truly re-emerged as premiership contenders after their trip to Brookvale Oval on Friday night. After a woeful start to the season, in which they lost five of their first six matches, Canterbury have won six of seven to storm back into the top eight. However, this will be the first time since round six, when they were hammered 38-0 by the Roosters, that they have played a current top-four team. The stakes will also be high for Manly, whose form has been patchy since disposing of the Bulldogs in round five. If the Sea Eagles lose this and the Roosters and Melbourne win, Des Hasler’s men will be five points adrift of the top three. They would also surrender fourth spot to the Gold Coast if the Titans defeat Souths.

Phil's tip: Sea Eagles by four.

AAP writes: Both sides head into this match with an unchanged 17. While Manly have just a five day break from their bruising loss to the in-form Warriors in New Zealand, they’ll be glad to return home to Fortress Brookvale. It will be just the second time their former coach Des Hasler returns there since leaving 18 months ago. Much has changed since these teams met in round five, with the Bulldogs having turned their season around to earn six wins from their last seven outings.

Key: Bulldogs fullback Ben Barba is starting to show signs he’s back to his sensational best. The visitors will be a big show if that continues.

SEA EAGLES: Peta Hiku, Jorge Taufua, Jamie Lyon (capt), Steve Matai, David Williams, Kieran Foran, Daly Cherry-Evans, Brenton Lawrence, Matt Ballin, Brent Kite, Anthony Watmough, Justin Horo, Glenn Stewart. Interchange: James Hasson, Tom Symonds, Jamie Buhrer, George Rose.

BULLDOGS: Ben Barba, Mitch Brown, Josh Morris, Krisnan Inu, Sam Perrett, Josh Reynolds, Trent Hodkinson, Aiden Tolman, Michael Ennis (capt), Sam Kasiano, Frank Pritchard, Tony Williams, Greg Eastwood. Interchange: Dene Halatau, Josh Jackson, James Graham, Dale Finucane, Tim Browne (one to be omitted).

    • So I watch the game with my partner an avid Bulldog supporter and my Dad an avid Manly supporter.....I remain neutral (my teams leading the comp anyway!!). My only comment of any importance is this.......Shayne Hayne has to go.

    • Josh Reynolds has been shown to be the smartest man in the NRL tonight. In that last tackle where Glenn Stewart was penalised Glenn only had hold of his leg he wasn't pushing or trying to tip him up but you'll see if you look closely Josh Reynolds has push up off his one leg on the ground and caused himself to spin over on to his back. Simply amazing!
