Brisbane did the job 22-12 on a night that went largely as predicted. The Eels showed glimpses, as they have done in a number of games this season, but didn't have the class needed to get over the line when the opportunity arose. For all of the talk about needing Ben Barba, Brisbane fullback Josh Hoffman was the hero, scoring a superb individual try and saving a few others.
The Broncos live to fight another day and edge closer to the finals, with a tough assignment on the road against Penrith next week. For Parramatta fans, it's the same old story.
TRY to Reni Maitua. Steps and weaves and gets a consolation try for the Eels. Broncos lead 22-12.
Kahu bats it dead and the Eels win another set. What will they do with it? I have no idea but I'm guessing not a great deal. Just four minutes on the clock now and this game has been sapped of anything resembling intensity. Broncos lead 22-6.
There's a blockbuster in Gosford, which makes this the 'Are we there yet?" game of the evening. And there's a Falcon. Broncos lead 22-6. Eight fairly long minutes remaining.
It doesn't look too bad and he's up and about but he's not going back on right away. Looks like a contact injury rather than a ligament injury. It was a heavy collision with Hoffman in the end as they clipped each other sprinting in opposite directions.
Hayne has speed and bursts clear! But Hoffman, once again, gets his hand on the final pass and knocks it to the ground. Now Hayne down with a leg injury, knee perhaps. Parramatta fans, it turns out your season can get worse.
They'll have a look for a Jack Reed try here. But this will be a big, fat no. He puts it down on a stray boot and then seemed to lose it. The Eels with the 20m tap with Reed ruled to have lost it over the line. Score remains 22-6.
The Eels cut through but Hoffman gets a hand to the final pass and gets the intercept! Can't get away from the traffic though. The Brisbane fullback has been a bright spark on what must be said has been a fairly average night of NRL rugby league. Broncos lead 22-6.
Just settling into a middle thirds grind now, which is great for Brisbane since they lead by 16 points. It's not so great for the Eels, who have 22 minutes to change the 22-6 scoreline into the positive.
Prince hits it sweetly and it floats over from the sideline. Brisbane lead 22-6.
Sensational ball from Matt Gillett and the Broncos score the TRY through through Jack Reed. Gillett had plenty of work to do as he was wrapped up but instead of flinging it wildly, just composed himself and fired a rocket of a spiral pass out to his centre. Half chance turned into points for Brisbane, with a touch of class from Gillett the key ingredient. It's something the poor old Eels are missing at the moment. Broncos lead now out to 20-6.
Penalties left, right and centre now. Tim Mannah done for a strip. Not sure this will be game of the season.
Another attack, another lost ball for the Eels. The wrong option taken and it all falls apart. Brisbane making some errors themselves now and this game has taken a distinct turn for the worst. Broncos lead 16-6 with half an hour remaining.
Parramatta. What can you say? Good field position, building to something but nobody can even get a kick away on the final play and it is lost forward and turned over. You can only blame so much on the coach. A complete lack of confidence in that passage of play.
We're back baby. The Eels kick off to start the second half as they trail by 10. Good test here for the Eels to see if they can hold on here and either get back into the game or keep the score respectable.
Brisbane done for a knock-on there and that's symptomatic of a tendency now for any ball that hits the deck to be judged as going forward. That really is a shocker of a decision. Ben Hunt went to catch the pass and the ball went between his legs. How that is a knock on, I have zero idea.
A rush of penalties now for Parramatta. But Hayne throws it right over the sideline as they fire down the left edge! Looked promising and to his credit, the winger really should have been looming on the end of that pass. Toutai was a mile back and would have probably scored if he was on top of that play. Broncos lead 16-6.
The Eels, to their credit, are having a real crack. Some brilliant interchange of inside balls almost had Hayne galloping away and Jack Reed needed to get the hand to that to save a try out on the left. Broncos grimly defending the 16-6 lead as the break beckons.
Average hour from the Eels there. They get a lucky call when a ball is clearly taken in the field of play but is ruled to have been caught in-goal. A decent set gets them within range of something - anything - but Luke Kelly's cross-kick just floats way, way past the tryline and Oates takes it with time to spare. You can see why Ricky Stuart is always on the verge of an anxiety attack. Broncos lead 16-6 with five minutes left in the half.
SENSATIONAL solo TRY from Josh Hoffman. Who needs Ben Barba? Or Corey Norman, for that matter. Slices through the Eels line, beats no less than four players and scores a brilliant try to give Brisbane a 14-6 lead with 10 minutes left in the half.
Prince's kick is waved away so the Broncos can't extend the 10-4 lead with 13 minutes left in the half.
Nice hands from Brisbane. The passing exchange is far too slick for the Eels and Corey Oates finds clear air in the corner to dive over. Brisbane lead 10-6.
Good kick from McCullough and he pins the Eels back down their end. Parramatta can't afford any mistakes in their red zone because the evidence so far suggests they are going to struggle to repel Brisbane for long if they get repeats attacks. And Luke Kelly's boot is hoofed out on the full. It's 6-6.
And out of nothing, the Eels hit back with a TRY to Ryan Morgan. Hayne just floated across the park and nobody bothered to tackle him! Draws, passes to Morgan who works hard to get it down. Jake Mullaney slots it from the sideline to boot. Hayne is a gun, no doubt. It's 6-6 after 20 minutes.
Moimoi demolished by Hannant on that charge. The Eels really battling to make headway at the moment. Brisbane's pack isn't massive but with Hannant, Parker, Gillett and Thaiday it looks to be too much for Parramatta at this point.
Too much pressure and Josh Maguire hits a lovely flat ball from McCullough and goes over under the posts for the TRY. Brisbane had another penalty before that as Thaiday lost it playing the ball and I think the Eels can feel a bit hard done by there. Broncos lead 4-0.
Huge hit from Ben Roberts denies Kahu the try. Sent him flying into touch and the Broncos can't make the most of that run of possession. No score after 10 minutes here at Suncorp Stadium. But an Eels mistake on halfway gives Brisbane a fresh set of six.
The Broncos tear them apart up the middle and Corey Parker rolls over but is held up. And now another push and shove and some strong words being exchanged! Penalty to Brisbane and they are looking likely.
Mistake here from Ben Hunt, who looks suspiciously like he's growing a finals beard. I like his optimism, even if he doesn't like that play. The Eels on the move now and looking fairly decent in these early exchanges. No score.
And awaaaaaaaay we go! Broncos kick off. The home side by plenty for mine but I'm wrong on a concerning number of occasions.
When you're ready, rugby league. And finally, some players appear. Only about half an hour from a start now.
Good evening folks and thanks for joining our live coverage of the undoubted game of the evening as the Broncos host the Eels. Nobody really cares about the table-topping battle between Souths and Manly so stay right here as the Broncos fight to keep their season alive and Parramatta just go around for another week. Set for a start.
