Cronulla Sharks v South Sydney Rabbitohs

FULL-TIME: The Rabbitohs make it five from seven with a three try to zip win over the Cronulla Sharks in a scrappy game at Redmondis Stadium.

Depleted teams and a slippery surface didn't help, but there was little inspiration from either side in a game to forget.

The Rabbitohs continue to string wins together, but there is plenty of room for improvement.

The Sharks need a good hard look at the tape and work on their accuracy and initiative. They threatened in the final ten minutes but were otherwise pretty blunt throughout.

Where Souths were lacklustre, the Sharks were cluelessly inefficient.

Thanks for your company, we'll have match reports and reaction up on the site shortly.

And that's that ladies and gentlemen. It ends Sharks 0 Rabbitohs 18.

Joel Reddy dives to deny Blake Ayshford as Merritt can't gather a grubber through from Arona. Close for the Sharks.

Excellent defence on the fourth. Robson kicks in goal, Sutton pats it behind. Another goal line dropout but the Rabbitohs are not really troubled.

The Sharks are knocking but with little accuracy. They must score off this glut of possession.

Cronulla put in a handy kick to the corner flag. It bounces up but Johnston pats it into touch as the winger looms.

Out on the full from the Rabbitohs. Pressure builds as the Sharks go five short with Tagataese.

Robson half-hearts a kick through. Dylan Walker picks it up but he is forced in goal. Third repeat set coming. Test for the Rabbitohs here.

Sam Tagataese breaks three tackles and skips up the middle. Super run as the crowd come alive. Sharks are inside the 10m line with two tackles remaining.

Cronulla force a repeat set as Merritt smothers the grubber in goal. Adam Reynolds will kick from the in goal. Five to go in this one.

The Rabbitohs will win this one, but they are still way off where they want to be in 2014. They have made hard work of this one, but should hold the Sharks scoreless.

Cronulla try to force something down the right. Michael Gordon knocks on. A night to forget.

More injury woes for the Sharks as Sosaia Feki goes off. Souths' Joe Picker also goes off after a head knock courtesy of Heighington's shoulder.

Ten to go here, as Sam Tagataese tries to make some impact up the middle. The Sharks put in a decent set, before kicking to Reddy. Nothing coming from these kicks from either half.

Now Jonathan Wright is taken into touch as he tries to find space out wide. Scrum Souths and more points coming. Starting to look easy for the visitors.

This is better from Cronulla, who go through the hands to the right but the passing is not lateral enough and the ball isnt doing any work. They make a hard 30m and kick straight to Johnston. But they didn't drop the ball. Or throw a pass to nobody. So an improvement nonetheless.

The pressure is momentarily relieved as George Burgess spills the ball in contact. Scrum Sharks. Shambolic there from Souths.

Rabbitohs make a good 50, kick high, regather and kick high again. Blake Ayshford covers behind his line, but can't get back in play. They are in for a tough final 15 here.

Reynolds adds the two. Sharks 0 Rabbitohs 18

TRY: Cameron McInnes scores his first NRL try under the posts. Straight from dummy half and catches the Sharks defence kipping. The TMO is happy with the grounding, and that's the game. Sharks 0 Rabbitohs 16. KTC

Gordon slips as he goes to gather Reynolds' kick through. He is wearing the wrong studs tonight. Bambi on ice. Scrum to Souths, under the posts, 10m out. Trouble brewing.

So, we have 20 minutes to go here, with the Rabbitohs attacking off the back of a scrum on halfway. Dylan Walker makes a half break up the right touchline, before they come left through the Burgess brothers in quick succession. Souths are starting to make real gains here as the Sharks tire and heads drop.

Adam Reynolds puts the ball across the face of the posts from the touchline, and the Rabbitohs lead the Sharks 12-0.

TRY: Finally something approaching flowing footy. Joel Reddy superbly offloads late in the tackle. Dylan Walker makes a lovely break up the middle, puts on some footwork and gets the ball away in the tackle of Gordon. Kirisome Auva'a is on his shoulder, takes the pass and goes in to score.

That slip from Ricky Leutele just before halftime has finished him. He goes off with a medial ligament knee strain. I'm frankly surprised he lasted another 12 minutes, it looked bad first up.

Oh dear. Souths look likely, they go right. Reynolds goes for the in goal off the boot. Wade Graham's boot says otherwise, and Jeff Robson breaks away. He is chased down on the break, lobs it over his head in the tackle and the move falls apart. Nightmare viewing.

The Sharks go right quickly, but Sutton and Burgess are a wall, and the Sharks backpedal, throw a loose pass and are suddenly back behind the 20m line. A gain of 2m there off the set. They kick and Sutton picks it up. Hard to watch for Cronulla fans. They are half-beating themselves here.

Bit of a stink here, nothing much and the Sharks come away with the pen. Robson kicks to the corner, and Cronulla will have a rare chance.

Junior Roqica is walking a fine line in the tackle area here. He is again warned for interfering. He has already gifted two penalties for the same on debut.

Now Holdsworth finds Nathan Merritt with the bomb. No change coming at all here from the high ball from either side.

George Burgess tries to wriggle then power through under the posts. Good defence from the Sharks, who win possession as the attack peters out. If they can keep the deficit at eight, then they have something to work to.

Good gain from Arona, who takes the hit on the fifth. Daniel Holdsworth kicks ahead. The Rabbitohs get a penalty as a Sharks boot interferes with the play the ball. And another straight after from Junior Roqica for slowing the play down.

And we're off again, as the Rabbitohs make 50, Reynolds finds Michael Gordon, who slips but takes the ball. Deja vu.

Here's some halftime entertainment ... Phil Gould and Andrew Webster previewing State of Origin I

Click here to view the lads

HALFTIME: So, the Sharks trail by eight going into the break. Neither coach will be delighted with what they have seen in the first half. It's been a pretty flat game with little to get excited about.

The Sharks are still in it, and the scoreline is about right for the first 40. Both sides have looked clueless on the final tackle, and are kicking with little attention or accuracy. A proper war of attrition here, let's hope the inevitable halftime spray sparks a better second half!

Ricky Leutele takes an offload from Michael Gordon, slips on the surface and yelps. He is ok to continue, could have been worse the way his knee jarred.

Adam Reynolds makes it two kicks from two, and it's an eight point lead for Souths. Sharks 0 Rabbitohs 8

If you've been living under a rock you may have missed it but Michael Carayannis broke the news this morning that St George Illawarra have sacked coach Steve Price

    Read the story here

A tough 31m gain there for the Rabbitohs, but Merritt is illegally stripped on the fifth, and Adam Reynolds will kick the penalty from right in front, 30m out. Gift.

Five minutes to go until halftime here, as Sam Burgess starts the set on the Rabbitohs' 20m line.

NO TRY As the ball comes down off Feki, Alex Johnston knocked the ball on before he regathered on the bounce. It remains Sharks 0 Rabbitohs 6.

TRY? The Sharks go high to the left corner flag. Feki can't take it, but Alex Johnston picks up the ball off the ground and goes 100m unchallenged up the left touchline to score! Heartbreaker for the men in blue. We'll go to the TMO to look for a slight knock-on.

Holdsworth tries one along the ground, Merritt picks it up but makes little ground. Halftime is going to be pretty uncomfortable in both locker rooms.

Sutton tries his luck on the fifth now, and Michael Gordon takes it unchallenged on his knees as he misjudges it. It's safely gathered and the Sharks take it up to the 40m line through the industrious Chris Heighington.

And now Alex Johnston tidies up a high ball. A pretty ordinary period here, with both sides going high but safe on the fifth. Not much precision from any of the halves so far tonight. #pingpong

Reynolds tries a 40/20 but Jonathan Wright covers well, and takes it up to the 30m line. Half an hour gone here, with only that one try to Sam Burgess and an Adam Reynolds' conversion on the board.

And again. Kirisome Auva'a lifts Michael Gordon in the tackle, and the Sharks have a penalty. Cronulla shoot themselves in the foot again as Robson's wide ball is spilled by Feki. It looks like it went backwards as he dove on the ball to regather but it's called a knock. Plenty going on in the middle of the pitch, but nothing coming off for either side, with neither finding much in the way of finesse.

Chance for the Sharks! Jason Clark drops the ball, and is hit regardless by Bryce Gibbs. Scrum to Cronulla, right in front, 30 out. They really need to get something here to settle into this encounter.

Reynolds adds the extras. Sharks 0 Rabbitohs 6

TRY: After the injury break for Siosaia Vave, who is ok to continue, Reynolds finds Sam Burgess from the play the ball and there is nothing the Sharks halves can do as the big man ploughs through the last five metres and stretches out to score.

More comic errors as Feki spills metres from his line. George Burgess picks up the loose ball, steps again, but in the background Siosaia Vave has taken a knock on the side of the knee as Cronulla scramble to cover.

John Morris 300: With Knights teammate Matt Gidley after making the 2002 Country Origin team.

TMO: Daniel Holdsworth kicks through on the fifth, the ball ricochets off Apisai Koroisau, and Bryce Gibbs drops on the spoils. The video says offside. Still scoreless after 19.

Souths go to the wing from Reynolds' boot. It is too high, and by the time Alex Johnston has leapt to catch it, Sosaia Feki has covered and bundled him out. Reynolds has the wrong boots on tonight.

George Burgess pumps the legs, steps and makes a tidy half break. The men in red and green are on here, as Merritt takes the ball about five out.

Joel Reddy is getting involved nicely tonight. He chases a long kick upfield and puts pressure on the retreating fullback. The Sharks spill the ball 30 out and gift the Rabbits a big chance to open their account here.

In honour of Sharks hooker John Morris' 300th match tonight, we've dusted off his portfolio in the Fairfax Media photo library to bring you a selection of images from his career.

Here's the first one - despite all those matches over 14 seasons, he's hardly aged a bit.

Joel Reddy takes a great catch under his own posts, almost drops the ball as he is hit on the landing. The Sharks players claim a knock on and look like they have a case.

Reynolds again makes it easy for Gordon with a high torpedo on the fifth. Nothing doing for either side here. No score after 10 minutes.

Ben Lowe's just taken a rattler. He gets up gingerly as Souths attack. They go high, but Michael Gordon accepts it gratefully.

And we'll finally have a pause with a scrum to Cronulla. Adam Reynolds goes to the line, grubbers. The ball pings back and he can't regather legally. Wade Graham drops on the ball. Scrum Cronulla 20m from their line, centre field. Manic stuff so far, with neither team settling in as yet. Souths on top.

The Sharks are killing themselves here with errors on the final tackle. The pass on the fifth goes over Robson's head and the Sharks are forced to scamper back, losing ground - and possession.

Joel Reddy almost picks up the bomb, but John Morris has it and the Sharks will start again 6m from their own line.

Unbelievable start. Daniel Holdsworth has just been charged down for a second time. The Sharks recover, Holdsworth kicks to the corner, and Feki almost gets there. No dice. Very open start here, with the Rabbitohs attacking from the 30.

Adam Reynolds pokes the ball through, but Michael Gordon cleans it up and brings the ball back in play.

And we're off in the final game of round 11. Decent metres from Heighington on the fourth, but Holdsworth is charged down on the fifth. Nightmare. The Rabbitohs are inside the 10 on the second tackle. Trouble.

The Rabbitohs edged the Sharks 28-26 in the Holden Cup earlier tonight. The seniors are on the pitch, kickoff moments away. I'm tipping the Rabbitohs by 12.

All eyes are on John Morris tonight, who was welcomed into the 300 club by Nathan Hindmarsh in the changing rooms. He'll do well to come away on the winning side tonight, with the Sharks needing something special to defeat a Bunnies side looking to build consistency.

TEAM NEWS: David Fifita has rolled his ankle in the pre-game and is out. In comes Junior Roquica. Sosaia Feki is also labouring through the warmup and has received attention.

CRONULLA SHARKS v SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS at Remondis Stadium, Monday 7pm

Last meeting: Round 11 2013 - Sharks 14 bt Rabbitohs 12 at Remondis Stadium

    Head-to-head: Sharks 42 Rabbitohs 36 Drawn 3

    TV: Live, FoxSports 1

    Ladbrokes: Sharks $3.25 Rabbitohs $1.36

    Betfair:  $3.60 Rabbitohs $1.31

Michael Chammas writes: Adam Reynolds and John Sutton will be keen to put in a strong showing after they were snubbed for Origin selection. The Sharks are without Paul Gallen and Andrew Fifita, and while Souths are missing three players, they have the depth to cover.

    Tip: Rabbitohs by 12

AAP writes: State of Origin has hit both teams with Nathan Merritt making a return to first grade for the Rabbitohs in place of Greg Inglis, while Ben Lowe returns to the side for Ben Te'o. Bryson Goodwin has been moved to the bench after his disastrous display last weekend against Melbourne with Joel Reddy to start on the wing. Luke Lewis and Paul Gallen are on NSW duty so Chris Heighington and Tinirau Arona are named in their place for the Sharks. Beau Ryan, Todd Carney and Anthony Tupou are all out injured leaving the Sharks light on talent for hooker John Morris's 300th NRL appearance.

Key: Souths' halves John Sutton and Adam Reynolds will be pumped to shine after being overlooked by NSW coach Laurie Daley. The pair have a combined 12 try assists and 12 line break assists this season.

SHARKS: Michael Gordon, Sosaia Feki, Blake Ayshford, Ricky Leutele, Jonathan Wright, Daniel Holdsworth, Jeff Robson, Siosaia Vave, John Morris, Bryce Gibbs, Tinirau Arona, Wade Graham (capt), Chris Heighington. Interchange: Isaac De Gois, Sam Tagataese, Tupou Sopoaga, David Fifita, Michael Lichaa (one to be omitted).
