Outgoing: Can the embattled Titans lift against the defending premiers to send coach John Cartwright out on a high note?

End of an era: John Cartwright has farewelled the Titans with a final game loss to the Roosters at Allianz Stadium. Photo: Getty Images

And that's that. The Roosters have closed that match out and won 16-18. The John Cartwright era is over at the Titans. The Roosters are back in the top four with minor premiership hopes still in tact. James Maloney is the man-of-the-match for me. His passes decided the match.

Thanks for tuning in. Good night and good luck.

Penalty Roosters right in front. That'll be an eight point lead. No fairytale finish to John Cartwright's  personal nightmare. Roosters should close this one out. Maloney converts. Eight points is the difference with one minute to go.

James Roberts puts the ball on the toe, early in the count and straight into the lags of the Roosters. What a waste. With pressure building, that was possibly the worst option available. That could be the match. Don't think the Titans will have another run at the Roosters line...

Frank-Paul Nuuausala looked like he drove forward intentionally early in the scrum at Greg Bird. Can that be classified as a headbutt? No foul, no problem, apparently.

Anthony Minichiello with an electric run out of his own 10m line. Darting at the Titans defence. But he drops the ball in the tackle. Six tackles coming for the Titans. Five minutes left. Big six tackles here.

Field goal attempt sails wide from Mitchell Pearce. Right idea, six points remains the difference.

Titans need the ball in hand if they're to get a result out of this one.

Looks like a try to the Roosters off a Mitchell Pearce bomb. Zillman spills it under brave pressure from Minichiello. No try is the ruling. Looks like Minichiello knocked the ball forward. This match is still within grasp of the Titans.

Try Roosters. Michael Jennings streaks over to score his 99th career try from a James Maloney cut out pass. He's had a cracker tonight. Directed play all night. Good flat passing, held the ball when necessary. Done his bit. Maloney misses the conversion. Will the Titans roll over or push for a result?

Roosters could bust the game open with a try in thie set of six. This will test the Titans defence.

    I hear you Polso.

Roosters have answered with strong defence. The Roosters weathered some serious pressure. Composed and organised. They can switch it on when they need to. Aidan Guerra cleans up an in-goal kick and brings it out of his in-goal.

Gold Coast Titans starting to ask some questions. Need t keep the ball in hand. Hard work from the forwards required. Dave Taylor needs to stand up and stop making errors if his side are to sneak back in front.

Conditions aren't too flash at Allianz Stadium. Ask Joey Johns.

Plenty of food for thought for incumbant Titans coach Neil Henry who will take the helm of the club after this match.

Eying the prize: Neil Henry will take the reigns at the Titans after this match.

Try to the Roosters. They've been knocking the entire second half. Mitchell Pearce's cross-field kick touches Cordner and Jennings before falling to Tuivasa-Sheck who kicks, regathers and crosses for a meat pie. Video ref takes his time but awards a try. Roosters back in front. Maloney misses the conversion.

Another error this time it's Dave Taylor. That's his second this half. Rain is pouring down here at Allianz Stadium, obviously adversely affecting handling errors.

Another point of interest for Storm fans... if there are any!

We're back underway here at Allianz Stadium.

Some halftime entertainment here for you all. Anyone have any best try nominations? I'll dig them up if you make a comment.

    Some good readin' here...

Try Titans. Daniel Mortimer's cross-field kick finds Kevin Gordon who pads the ball back to Greg Bird. Bird crosses on the first-half hooter. Remarkably the Titans can take the lead at halftime. Sezer converts. Roosters 16 Titans 18 at halftime.

Trent Robinson drops the ball for the Roosters. Simple error. Robinson hangs his head. Way too many errors during this match. Ball control has been abysmal in this match to be frank.

Boyd Cordner looks to have been held-up here by a miracle effort from Daniel Mortimer against his former club. Cordner lost control of the ball too. Should be a Titans ball.

Vintage Minichiello - the little Roosters veteran bounced off a number tacklers and darted forward bringing his side out of trouble. He's too good to retire in my opinion.

Strong set of six from the Roosters. Pearce grubber looked to have been knocked forward by Pearce on the re-gather. No try, unless I'm blind, or the video ref is. Yep, no try.

Great try to the Roosters. Nene MacDonald picks up a Maloney ball off his boots, twists, fends and places the ball before falling into touch. Great work from the winger. Maloney converts from the sideline. Ball didn't deviate. Roosters back in front. Too many errors from the Titans.

The Titans' big man Dave Taylor scores for the Queenslanders. His seventh of the season. He does have some skill, speed, strength, agility... actually there isn't much he lacks - except a shaver. Sezer converts. Titans back in front.

And in other news .. check out this tough-looking little man.

    PT0M37S http://www.canberratimes.com.au/action/externalEmbeddedPlayer?id=d-3dhml 620 349

News from the judiciary, the Bulldogs' Josh Reynolds faces four weeks on the sidelines. Read Michael Carayannis' report here.

Try Roosters. James Maloney strides through the Titans defence for his third try of the season. Easy as you like. Titans are gifting possession to the Roosters. Maloney converts. 10-6 to the Roosters.

BIZARRE! From the line drop-out, Sezer hits his kick straight into mthe back of a retreating Roosters player then the Titans knock the ball on. So... the short of it is the Roosters have the ball in prime position.

Inches away. Boyd Cordner drives to the line and is held up by the Titans defence. Next tackle Don clears from a Mitchell Pearce grubber.

Mark Minichiello puts the ball down. This is inviting pressure. Six of the best coming here from the Roosters who are starting to dominate field position.

Jaren Waerea-Harbreaves looks in the mood. Two smashing tackles, one on the kicker. Very physical play from the man-mountain.

Titans throw away a golden opportunity down the left flank. Mortimer puts a tough from ball from Takairangi down in open space. Try-line beckoned!

Try Roosters! And it's the Roosters favourite, the golden child, the prodigy turned veteran - Anthony Minichiello! Roosters fed the ball wide right, Titans too slow to shift - try time. Maloney fails to convert. They look awake now. Titans' first try face slap did the trick!

Is this an early try, Roosters still look like they're in warm-up mode! So following a Boyd Cordner error the Titans have scored through Anthony Don. Mark Minichiello was level with Mortimer when he kicked the ball. The richochet found its way to Don's hands. Easy as you like! Is Don, is good! Sezer converts. Early handling errors playing an early role at Allianz Stadium!

Titans will have first crack at the line. Will they make an impression early? Sezer spraying the ball left and right.

Kick-off here, the Titans start this one.

Plenty of blue in the stadium from the looks of it ... spare seats that is. Doesn't look like many have braved the cold.

The Roosters are crowing early on this freezing night in Sydney.

    ... and the Roosters.

Our man on the ground Chris Boulous has the team changes for the Titans.

Story of the weekend undoubtedly has to be the Rabbitohs covincing win over the Sea Eagles. The Sea Eagles defence was breached four times and that doesn't happen often. Here are the match highlights.

In what will be a huge test for the 29-year-old, Heath L’Estrange will start at hooker for the Roosters replacing Jake Friend (hamstring). Michael Carayannis filed this yarn on a case of mistaken identity where members of the squad thought the balding journeyman was a member of the coaching staff.

Evening all, welcome to the live coverage of the Sydney Roosters v Gold Coast Titans round 22 clash from Allianz Stadium. Will John Cartwright finish a winner? Will losing Jake Friend significantly hurt the premiers? The Titans are missing Brad Tighe (groin) and David Mead, so both sides are walking wounded at the moment.

Sydney Roosters v Gold Coast at Allianz Stadium, Monday 7pm

Head to Head: Titans 7 Roosters 4

Last clash: Round 25 2013 - Titans 30 Roosters 22 at Allianz Stadium

Tab Sportsbet: Roosters $1.28 Titans $3.75

    FootyTAB: Titans +12.5

Michael Chammas writes: The loss of Jake Friend to injury can't be underestimated. That's a huge loss to the Roosters, who should win on Monday night against a besieged Titans side. Gold Coast would like to send outgoing coach John Cartwright off on a winning note, but the Roosters possess too much class to lose this game.

    Tip: Roosters by 12

AAP writes: Are the defending premiers back? They rebounded with a win over the Dragons last week to jump back into the top four. They are without workhorse hooker Jake Friend (hamstring) however have capable cover in Heath L'Estrange and the returning Mitch Aubusson. It will be interesting to see how they react following captain Anthony Minichiello's announcement that he will retire at season's end. For the Titans, the return of Williams Zillman and Kalifa Faifai Loa has been offset by the loss of Brad Tighe (groin) and David Mead (hamstring).

Key: John Cartwright's sacking. This match will be the Gold Coast inaugural coach's last game in charge. He will hand the reins over to former Cowboys mentor Neil Henry next week. Historically, teams react strongly after a change in the coach's box.
