I'm no fan of the field-goal shootout in drawn games but that was a pretty breath-taking finale. Cherry-Evans is man of the match but he had a pretty ordinary game for 79 minutes and 50-odd seconds tonight. But that's not what counted on the night.

Thanks for joining our live coverage. Be sure to log on to smh.com.au for all the wash-up from tonight's crazy game and the rest of round 10 as we count down to Origin I. Good night!

There's not even time for a restart. I am utterly gobsmacked. The poor old Knights must feel like they've been mugged.

But that was a Roger Gould-esque field goal worthy of winning any match (rugby or league).

Manly were awful for an hour or more of that match to the point they were getting heckled by their own fans but somehow come away with the chocolates.

The big what if is what if Gidley had slotted that apparently easy field goal but may have been put off by the long delay in getting a tee. Just as he was put off by the ref moving his previous kick back. Gamesmanship from the Manly ballboys perhaps?

The Knights played with great heart but couldn't capitalise on the opportunities handed to them by the error-prone Manly. That's football for ya.

    Manly 15 Knights 14

80 min: Cuthbertson gets an offload away for the Knihts and they make valuable ground into the Manly half.

Then Rochow makes a break but is hauled down as Manly are preoccupied with snuffing out the field goal.

Boyd has a pot at field goal but it sails just wide.

They go down the other end sand Cherry-Evans hits a monster field goal from 40m plus and it's ... OVER!

Manly take the lead for the first and last time in the match right on the bell to crush the Knights. Incredible.

    Manly 15-14

76 min: Manly pressure the Knights line but Cherry-Evans' grubber is fluffed and goes straight to the grateful Boyd.

Mullen kicks deep and Stewart takes it on the run and finds Taufua out wide.

Watmough goes for a gallop as the Knights back off.

Littlejohn tries field goal but it gets a touch on the way through and flies flat and ugly.

    14-14

74 min: Ballin gets driven back by the Knights defence. Symonds kicks and Mamou coes away with it streaking down the line but is collared by Starling of all people. He tries to fling it inside but no dice.

    14-14

Matai adds the extras this time to tie it up at 14-14.

Here come the Sea Eagles, finally.

72 min: Cherry-Evans bombs again and Boyd comes away with it.

Roberts kicks from halfway again and Williams takes it up. They find Taufua out wide but he is wrapped up, just.

TRY! The kick goes up and McManus gets to it and juggles it to Hiku who pops it back to Buhrer to score.

It's gone upstairs and IT'S GOOD!

    Knights 14-12

Matai rushes the kick and misses. I was just going to say how costly could Gidley's penalty miss have been. But it ends up being four points conceded instead of six.

    Knights 14-8

70 min: Littlejohn bombs and it bounces, eluding everyone, and Taufua wins footrace for the massive looping bounce that drops just in front of the line and is able to ground it in the corner.

    TRY! They've gone upstairs ...

He missed it (again) but this time will get a try as a result. Hilarious.

    Knights 14-8

68 min: "What the hell's going on?" yells a Manly fan as we wait an eternity for a kicking tee but he may well have been addressing the team. It has to be a green apparently. What happened to sand? There's a bit around Manly.

Gidley slices that one badly across the face and misses. Was he put off again?

    Knights 14-4

66 min: Boyd chimes in for another hit-up then they kick. Simple but effective in their own half.

Manly struggle to get out of their 30m in their set. DCE kicks to Boyd and the Knights are almost in their half straight up.

Sims gets a bit of a coathanger and Manly get pinged. For the first time the Knights opt for the kick from a penalty.

    Knights 14-4

Gidley tries to crib a couple of inches for the kick from the sideline but is called back by the ref. He hits it wide and too straight with no fade this time.

    Knights 14-4

63 min: Manly work it up from the scrum towards halfway. Cherry-Evans slips a tackle and throws a loose switch cut-out. Stewart spins it to Matai but he doesn't hold it and Gagai pinches it.

TRY! Gagai flies down the sideline untouched by chasers to give the Knights a try very much against the run of play.

    Knights 14-4

61 min:  Cherry-Evans bombs to Uate again and again he is up to it, beating the first man but unable to evade the second.

Mullen puts a banana kick in from halfway and finds touch.

    Knights 10-4

59 min: Manly work it out of their 20m from the kick-off. Cherry-Evans bombs and this time Uate takes it cleanly.

Boyd comes in for another hit-up then Roberts kicks, and Brett Stewart takes it on the run and Manly can build again.

    Knights 10-4

Well that has been a long time coming. Taufua shows he can catch a ball and once he does is almost unstoppable with a sight of the line.

Matai lines up the kick from the sideline and hooks it too much.

    Knights 10-4

57 min: Matai finds Taufua like a freight train down the line and he bashes off Gagai to dot down in the corner.

    TRY!

    Knights 10-4

54 min: Manly swarm in defence from the kick-off and drive the Knights' Big Boppers back. They look fired up finally.

Mullen kicks deep and central and Williams comes away with it cleanly.

Cherry-Evans kicks long and deep on the last and Uate coughs up a knock-on, baffled by the flight or maybe the lights.

Manly get a scrum and their best chance of the half to score some points.

    Knights 10-0

Great power and strength from the Knights winger playing on one leg. How good would he be with two?

    Roberts misses the kick.

    Knights 10-0

52 min: It doesn't go out this tie and the Knights can attack the Manly line.

Mullen grubbers and Taufua comes away with it but loses it in the tackle.

TRY! Uate pounces on the crumbs and wrestles his way over again.

    Knights 10-0

He lost that in the tackle, maybe off McManus' shoulder. What was Williams doing? He looked to have grounded it then tries to wriggle free.

NO TRY! Knock-on by Williams and it'll be another Matai dropout.

    Knights 6-0

50 min: Matai loses the ball again. Is anyone gong to complete a set of six this half? The Knighrs do and Roberts grubbers in behind. Williams loses the ball after fielding the kick and taking the tackle in-field.

The ball pops loose and Rochow thinks he's scored the easiest try of his life but the ref goes upstairs, ruling no try.

It hit McManus' head - another falcon!

    Looking, looking ...

49 min: On for young and old as Tapine and Mason hit it up the middle for the Knights.

A game of netball broke out in the corner as the Knights try to keep it alive but the ball goes loose again and this time it's Manly scrum in their own 20m.

    Knights 6-0

47 min: Manly go wide from the scrum and Matai pops it wide for Taufua but the pass goes astray, undoing all that good work.

    Knights 6-0

46 min: The Knights tap again and batter the line through Mason and Rochow.

Roberts grubbers and Stewart has to bat it dead as it sat up cheekily.

Matai finds touch and the Knights napping with the drop-out. Clever.

    Knights 6-0

44 min: Mullen puts deft kick into the corner that stops just short of the line but Manly are able to bring it out comfortably.

DCE goes for a massive 40-20 but puts it just out. So close to genius.

But the Knights get it back and are within striking distance of the Manly line.

But Matai concedes a penalty for his tackle on Gagai for offside, Too eager.

    Knights 6-0

42 min: Tapine spins and makes metres close to Manly's line. He looks impressive.

Cherry-Evans gets hand to the grubber from Mullen and this time it sticks. Great work by the young half.

    Knights 6-0

40 min: Do you reckon Toovs might have been blowing up deluxe in the sheds? At least it won't be at the refs for once. They've had an above-average game so far.

Anyway here we go as the Knights kick off and manage to miss Taufua. Watmopuigh gets an offload away and manages to lose Manly 10m and concede a scrum as it's knocked on by Cherry-Evans trying to recover.

Not a good start. That siren we heard was steam emitting from Toovey's ears.

    Knights 6-0

Rugby league definitely wasn't the winner in that half that never really caught fire apart from the odd flare-up between Dane Gagai and Steve Matai.

Manly's serial pest has clearly got under his opponent's skin, and this could be interesting subplot to the second half. In the absence of any champagne football, some biff will do.

Manly don't look like Manly at the moment with handling errors and poor kicking options. Taufua has been a nightmare under the high ball and can expect a few more bombs from Mullen.

The Knights, to their credit, have been playing with a lot of spirit, really getting in Manly's faces in defence and trying to limit Cherry-Evans' time on the ball in particular.

Sometimes adversity bring out the best in a side and they're playing like a team under siege, which they were for periods in the second 20 minutes of that half.

Not long now til the second half when Manly's ears will no doubt be ringing for the first minutes after that display. Even their own fans were getting on their back towards the end.

Come here: Daly Cherry Evans of the Sea Eagles is collared by Willie Mason of the Knights.

Come here: Daly Cherry Evans of the Sea Eagles is collared by Willie Mason of the Knights. Photo: Renee McKay

40 min: The Knights kick it dead and hold out for a deserved if somewhat shaky lead. Knights 6-0

39 min: DCE chips and it's batted back to him and he grubbers through but looks to be ankle-tapped as he chases it . Boyd fields it in-goal and just makes it back into the field of play.

Fourth-time lucky and Taufua takes the most difficult catch of all over his shoulder froma Knights kick.

Gagai rushed out to hammer his mate Matai and misses but is there to clean up a loose pass and have the last laugh as we tick down to half-time.

    Knights 6-0

36 min: Uate is hurt, limping back to his wing. Mullen kicks wide to Uate who manages to bat it back but Glenn Stewart comes up with it and is almost tackled by his own teammate but eventually by Tapine.

    Knights 6-0

34 min: Manly bomb it but it's easily fielded by the Knights. The hosts' kicking game has fallen away.

Roberts bombs again and Taufua - again! - clean misses it through his bread basket somehow. But it's ruled knocked back and Manly get a home decision there.

    Knights 6-0

32 min: Another bomb from Mullen and Taufua lets it bounce again, leaving Stewart to clean up with Uate breathing down his neck so he has to hit it dead. Manly to drop out.

Big Willie gets a head of steam into the Manly wall and makes a a slight dent.

Tapine, just on, almost crashes over near the posts. Roberts tries a grubber but DCE scoops it up and hares off but doesn't get too far.

    Knights 6-0

30 min: Big Willie Mason is on for the Knights as they kick long to try to get some respite. Can they force an error from Manly in their own half?

Buhrer is everywhere for Manly. Another offload by Manly and they're inside the Knights' half.

DCE kicks but it short and straight to Boyd and that was a bit of a waste.

    Knights 6-0

29 min: It was Taufua who made that tackle at the other end, incidentally.

The Knights drop out and here come the men in maroon again. King gets away a leisurely offload then Lui tries the same trick but is wrapped up but the Knights are pinged for offside right near their line.

Buhrer bursts on to a pass from DCE with the line begging but it bounces off his chest and the Knights get let-off #63 tonight.

    Knights 6-0

26 min: Mullen puts up a bomb and Taufua lets it bounce but does amazingly well to get out of his in-goal under heavy pressure.

Williams makes a bust up the middle but has no support.

Cherry-Evans kicks to no fullback at home for the Knights and Uate doesn't make it out of his in-goal this time by an inch or two.

    Knights 6-0

24 min: The Knights give away a penalty with Manly pinned in their half. Lui gets backslammed then Stewart shoots a wild offload out the back as he gets collared and the Knights come away with it as Manly were within 5m of the line.

    Knights 6-0

21 min: Buhrer offlads to Litlejohnh and he almost gets through the line.

Cherry-Evans chips to the corner and Hiku comes out with it after it was batted back but knocks on trying to ground it over line under heavy pressure. Another let-off for the Knights.

    Knights 6-0

19 min: Cherry-Evans almost put Buhrer through and then Stewart did the same the other side for Horo who popped the ball up but it went forward with the line begging.

That was close and Manly looked like scoring off nearly every tackle that set in the Knights half. Now the Knights cough up possession with an error and Manly get a scrum in midfield. Could the momentum be shifting?

    Knights 6-0

17 min: Snowden cops a bell ringer fielding the kick-off. The Knights kick early and deep to Stewart, who does well, but they're in their faces in defence.

Manly get their first penalty for the night when Buhrer is tackled before he got the ball from Watmough.

Here come Manly with their first meaningful attack.

    Knights 6-0

The Knights are worth their lead, you'd have to say.

Gidley hits it sweetly from wide out and it's ...

    Knights 6-0

13 min: Gagai and Matai (surprise) went to to toe as the ball went the other side and the Knights had a sniff of the corner but get the feed from a Manly knock-on and now a penalty as Manly slow down the play-the-ball. They tap and run again.

Big Snowden tries to barge over but is held up. Here the Knights come again.

TRY! They spin it wide to Uate and he somehow reaches over Matai to plant it down. Looks good but they've gone upstairs in case it's short.

    It's good! Knights 4-0

12 min: The Knights go left again and Roberts kicks low into touch as they run out of room and tackles. Mullen got collected a little late by Buhrer then.

Another loose pass from Manly when they looked to break in the clear is scooped up by Gagai cleanly for once and the Knights get another crack. Can someone put some points on? 0-0

9 min: A nice break down the line by the Knights and they kick across field on the next tackle to Uate, who stops and props, rugby style only for Gagai to spill it again within 10m of the Manly line. 0-0

7 min: Uate is back up and running by the looks as he fields a kick return. Mullen almost gets sacked on the last but gets a charged down kick away and Manly seize on it. Gained about 50cm with that one.

Then Stewart loses the ball trying to offload and the Knights get a scrum. Do we see a pattern emerging here?

    0-0

5 min: Sims hits it up and had the ball stripped in the tackle. They tap and run through Mullen

Snowden does a tree-like surrender tackle and they get driven back but spin it wide.

An neat inside pass to Gagai goes loose and Manly almost get a runaway intercept. Errors creeping in. 0-0

3 min: Littlejohn kicks straight down Boyd's throat and he is taken head on by the Manly reception committee. The Knights look fired up early. Uate looked hurt in that tackle and has his knee strapped.

Manly get it back and Williams almost makes a but Taufua comes up with an early falcon, our favourite bird and the Knights get a scrum in Manly's half.

    0-0

1 min: Matai kicks off short Steve Rogers style but the Knights don't get caught out and they work it to halfway and kick early. Brett Stewart has work to do but is up to the task in the face of very eager Knights chasers. 0-0

A minute's silence well observed for Reg Gasnier on the day we lost another sporting legend in Jack Brabham.

Good evening and welcome to another instalment of MNF to round out Round 10 of the NRL. Shane Brady here with you as Manly host the Knights, some of whom have been paid.

    Here they come now.

Michael Chammas’ preview: The Knights are having a season to forget. And even against a depleted Manly outfit, it’s not going to get any better at Brookvale Oval on Monday night. Peta Hiku and Jorge Taufua should have a field day out wide.

    Tip: Sea Eagles by 16

    Referees: Matt Cecchin, Adam Devcich

Head to head: Sea Eagles 26, Knights 17

Last time: Sea Eagles 32 bt Knights 0 at Brookvale Oval (round 2, 2013)

Odds: Sea Eagles $1.30, Knights $3.50

    • ooh, gotta feel for St George in the last ten minutes. even as a neutral, that forward pass call, the knock on that wasn't allowed to play on which should have been. then that try there to rub in the salt.
