Live: Sea Eagles v Wests Tigers
I'm sure Toovs will reward the boys with a few more of his classic one-liners in the sheds after that win. Anyway that's it from me. Thanks for joining the blog. Brad Walter and Glenn Jackson will have all the news from the sheds in tomorrow's Sydney Morning Herald and online.
Cherry-Evans the man of the match.
The seven minute passage of play after half time was the difference between the two team. Ellis off injured, a couple of Tigers mistakes which Manly took advantage of meant the Tigers were chasing the game.
80 min: And that's full time. Manly hang on to win. Manly 22-18
78 min: Tigers on the attack. Farah bomb is cleaned up by Manly. That could be it.
76 min: Here comes another grandstand finish. Joel Reddy scores after great move - Farah grubber regathered by Lawrence and back into Reddy for the try. Benji converts. Manly 22-18
74 min: Lawrence flies high and grabs a Farah bomb but Williams wrestles it out of his hands on the way to earth.
70 min: Utai's thighs make a great bust down the left-hand side and from 10m out Fulton goes very close to grounding a grubber over the top of Stewart. Video ref called in but it's no try.
67 min: Marshall grubber into the in-goal. Michael Oldfield can't bat it dead and Beau knows where the ball is. Marshall misses conversion from wide out. Manly 22-12.
66 min; Tigers get a scrum 10m out. This may be their chance.
65 min: Into the final quarter, it'll be interesting to see if the Tigers wilt after suffering from last Sunday's sauna game at Leichhardt Oval. If they are to get back it'll need some Marshall magic.
60 min: 20 mins into the half and Tigers get their first attacking raid of the second stanza. It ends when 'No Frills' Harrison foils a Farah grubber.
59 min: Manly get six again and then Tony Williams steamrolls Farah from 10m out. He's unstoppable from that distance and Wests Tigers trainers need a couple of shovels to dig Farah out of the turf. Lyon converts. Manly 22-8.
55 min: Foran chip-bomb is scrambled over the line by the Tigers. Manly will be on the attack again.
51 min: Ballin good clearing kick finds touch 10m out from Tigers line. It's all the premiers at this stage. Those jokes Toovs was telling during the half-time break have obviously lifted his team.
47 min: Wooah! Cherry-Evans gaps the Wests Tigers defence 30m out from his own line, throws a couple of dummies and then goes all the way. Manly have turned this game around in 7 minutes. Lyon converts. Manly 16-8.
44 min: Utai, the man back with the biggest thighs, but worst hands in the game spills the ball on his line. Manly then get a penalty for offside. Lyon takes the penalty goal. Manly 10-8.
43 min: Lovely short ball from Cherry-Evans puts King in from 5m out. Lyon converts. 8-all. Ellis walks off the field, but he's looking in a bad way.
41 min: Ellis has copped an accidently knee to the top of his leg. He looks in a bad way. Big blow for the Tigers if he has to go off. Humble spills a kick - Manly scrum 10m out.
Teams heading back on to the pitch, Blair with mouthguard still over his ear - has to be the coolest place to keep your mouthguard between tackles.
While I'm enjoying my valencia, Foran's having a laugh in the Manly sheds. Toovs must have just told one of his famous gags: "A horse walks into a bar. The barman says 'Why the long face?'" That one cracks up the Eagles every time.
Time for the half-time advertisement while I grab an orange.
39 min: Penalty to Manly - 40m out. Vic Mauro as a decoy runner is taken out by Heighington. Another penalty to Manly. Siren goes as Lyon lines up the penalty goal. It's good. That's half-time. Tigers 8 Sea Eagles 2
38 min: Watmough spills the ball - scrum to Tigers on halfway line.
36 min: Beau knows how to juggle a bomb before claiming it, and then gets a penalty.
33 min: Farah grubber cleaned up by Cherry-Evans who makes a half-break to the 20m line. Manly dodged a bullet there. Tigers have had all the possession in the last 10 mins.
31 min: Manly penalised 20m for another play the ball penalty, then back chat takes it to 10m closer. Tigers take the tap.
28 min: Six again for Tigers 20m out. Manly penalised for being offside. Tigers decide to go for the penalty goal. Debatable - Tigers had them stretched in defence and tap might have been the better option. Marshall puts it through. 8-0 Tigers.
26 min: Vic Mauro off the bench. Fact: Only first grader with christian name of Vic.
24 min: Adam Blair strolls through for a try after great bit of Farah to Marshall and brilliant decoy run by Lawrence. He's only scored six tries in his career. Marshall converts. 6-0 Tigers
21 min: Darcy Lussick stumbles in the play-the-ball and drops it 2m out from the line. Massive let off for the Tigers.
20 min: Manly receive penalty for ball strip, will go on the attack from 30m out. This will test the Tigers' defence.
16 min: After a penalty Tigers on the attack, Marshall grubbers into in-goal but Stewart coolly herds it over the dead ball line. Defence from both teams starting to drop off a few tackles.
14 min: Williams, who has been threatening down the left side, makes a bust from his own 20m to 30m out. Manly run on the last but held out by scrambling Tigers defence.
12 min: New boy Harrison gives away a no-frills penalty being offside after a Foran kick. Tigers really needed that to relieve the pressure.
11 min: Foran grubber in-goal scrambled over dead-ball by Humble.
9 min: Bad pass from Farah goes out. Manly will be 30m out on the attack after the scrum.
8 min: Nice right side attack from Manly, Lyon puts in grubber that just beats Williams into the corner post.
6 min: Beau knows how to defuse a Cherry-Evans bomb after a nice set of six from Manly.
3 min: Good defence holds the Tigers out and scrum to the Sea Eagles. Watmough still stinking it up with the ref for being penalised.
2 min: Watmough penalised for not lining up straight in play the ball. Tigers will go on the attack 10m out.
And we're off.
Late change to the Wests Tigers with Ben Murdoch-Masala coming on to the bench for Matt Bell.
Harrison is described at the Manly website as a 'no-frills back-rower' - not sure if that is a wrap or a sledge, but we may find out tonight.
After all the rain it's a lovely evening up at Gosford. Daniel Harrison will start in place of Glenn Stewart and there were a few whispers about Kieran Foran's fitness but he will start.
Preamble: Welcome to the Sea Eagles-Wests Tigers live match blog. After a cracking round one of the NRL we can only hope round 2 also produces the goods on-field.
The anticipated return bout between Glenn Stewart and Adam Blair won't take place tonight after Stewart was ruled out with an injury to his thumb. However for those of you who like a physical confrontation, if there's a repeat of this collision between Jason King and Gareth Ellis from last year's match at Bluetongue Stadium I'm sure you'll be happy. But make sure you come back.
In honour of Ellis' hit, and his work with Leeds Rhinos in the Super League, the prematch entertainment will be provided by Leeds' finest. It's Gang Of Four with Damaged Goods - how King was feeling after that hit.
