Live: Sydney Roosters v Panthers

And that's it from me this afternoon. Those pink jumpers certainly worked a treat for Penrith, who were not entirely convincing but were diligent enough to put a dismal Roosters away without much drama. Ivan Cleary appears to have the Panthers on track in his short time there, and will be impressed they didn't fold from a position of authority like last weekend. Join us again at 7pm when James Polsen will have live coverage of South Sydney's visit to Melbourne.

FULL-TIME: Panthers 18 Roosters 0.

80th min: The Roosters finish the match, true to form, with a couple of more errors. A fitting end to a performance lacking severely in polish.

79th min: The $3.50 schooners will be going down well at Panthers this evening. Roosters fans, by comparison, filing out of Allianz Stadium.

77th min: The Roosters error count will make ugly ready. They've coughed up another one. The cue might not be in the rack but they are not enjoying this.

75th min: Penrith trying to finish this off in style. Some quick passing finds Jennings free on the left but as he tries to put Uaisele over the ball flies out of play.

73rd min: Danny Galea being led up the tunnel. After being on the end of some serious contact, highlighted by that ripper from Waerea-Hargreaves, it would not surprise if that's the end of his day.

71st min: The Roosters are understandably trying anything at this point and they come unstuck again, with Anasta's ambitious ball to Leilua on the left sideline going into touch.

70th min: Luke Walsh is one of the more maligned halfbacks in the NRL but has played a crucial steering role this afternoon. He boots long and dead in goal but the Panthers won't lose any sleep as the clock ticks down.

67th min: It's not the Roosters day. They get another penalty but spill it through Lama Tasi to let Penrith off the hook. The Panthers are surely good things from here.

65th min: That monster tackle has lifted the Roosters. Thanks to a penalty they're down on the Panthers line and will get another set of six now after a bit of hot potato that ends in a Roosters scrum feed. They must score soon you'd think.

63rd min: Huge hit by Jared Waerea-Hargreaves on Galea. A legal shoulder charge this one and it's a beauty. As my colleague Greg Prichard might say, 'Oh Momma'.

60th min: The Roosters are going to need something akin to their Houdini effort against Souths to get out of this. They've been ordinary and the Panthers, led increasingly well by Walsh, have made them pay.

59th min: TRY Panthers. Jennings is just fine. The Roosters have shot themselves in the foot again, with Minichiello's ball to Kennedy on the short side flying loose. The flying Jennings scoops it up 30 metres out and there was not going to be any stopping him from there. Walsh converts and it's Panthers 18-0.

57th min: Penrith spread the ball wide to the left on the last tackle but as Jennings strides out the pass to him is called forward. Short delay in play as Jennings is attended to, apparently complaining of an ankle issue, but he is up and running again now.

56th min: Deft kick by Luke Walsh shut down by BJ Leilua but the Roosters made to drop out the ball again.

54th min: Danny Galea receiving medical treatment after a knock to the head. The man doing the treating is trainer Ronnie Palmer, who is back against his old club and now working for Panthers.

53rd min: The Roosters get an extra set, with Luke Lewis knocking the ball out of Guerra's hands, but they've come up with nothing. A penalty to the Panthers seconds later doesn't ease their displeasure.

51st min: Not the greatest crowd here - the official figure is 12,746. Penrith are doing everything to give the Roosters a way back into this, as they did against the Dogs last weekend. They've given away two penalties in a row and the Roosters are camped on their line with a set in hand.

49th min: Little Luke Walsh is in everything. He spins the ball wide to Brad Tighe and then Sandor Earl, and when it ends up back in his hands goes, characteristically, to the air. The Roosters clean up and a fourth-tackle boomer from Pearce puts Penrith back in their own zone.

47th min: Jennings continues to look dangerous with every touch. This time the Roosters contain him. More bad news for the hosts however with Martin Kennedy losing the ball in the play the ball on his own 30 metre line.

44th min: Guerra loses the ball for the Roosters in traffic. He had two or three players glued to him and claims the ball was stripped. The officials disagree.

43nd min: Luke Walsh spears a drop punt deep into Roosters territory. A strong return from winger Justin Carney and his opposite number Sandor Earl is penalised for his conduct at marker.

2nd half kick-off: The Roosters get play underway after the break. In a first half with not too many fireworks a couple of the best performers have been in defence. Nathan Smith leads the way for Penrith with 28, while Jake Friend has 26 under his belt to date. Kevin Kingston also excellent for the Panthers.

HALF-TIME: Panthers 12 Roosters 0. Penrith have been rewarded for some gutsy goal-line defence, and did very well to withstand whatever Pearce, Anasta and Minichiello threw at them. Brian Smith, I'm tipping, will not be a particularly happy camper. The Roosters dropped off big Sam McKendry like flies on his way to the try-line and with the number of significant players missing in the Panthers line-up the they have no right to be this far behind.

40th min: That's a sloppy ending to an enterprising set. A couple of tackles left and Pearce produces a dusty kick that gives Perrett no hope of getting near it.

39th min: The Roosters begin one last raid for the half. Panthers penalised for lying on Minichiello and the hosts have a full set 30 metres out.

35th min: TRY Panthers. No mistake this time from Penrith. Some good lead-up play from Walsh running cross field and that's a classy finish from Michael Jennings, stepping inside to get to the line. Brian Smith will be filthy to fall further behind after the pressure his side mounted on the Panthers' line. Walsh converts. Panthers 12-0.

33rd min: Kevin Kingston drops the ball coming out of dummy half. Roosters off the hook but they concede it again immediately, with Nathan Smith intercepting Jake Friend's pass from dummy half. Another Panthers penalty follows and the heat is on the Roosters line.

32nd min: The Panthers march up the field and get another shot with Sam Perrett batting a kick dead. Roosters drop out.

30th min: Oh dear they've blown another chance. Roosters right on top but Boyd Cordner has lost the ball centimetres from the line trying to throw a pass. Panthers escape through a subsequent penalty and for the first time in an age they're in the Roosters' territory.

28th min: Dramatic few moments here. Anasta's last-tackle kick ends in the hands of Panthers half Luke Walsh, who takes off only to dive on the ground voluntarily close to the sideline. He is dragged into touch from his prone position and the Roosters have the ball again.

26th min: No try is the call from video ref Tim Mander. The call is that Lachlan Coote has knocked on in his own in goal as Cordner lunged at the ball. Panthers drop out.

25th min: Penrith cough the ball up close to their own line. Cameron Ciraldo's popped pass from the ground wasn't really on and Pearce pounced. Now Pearce's grubber may have been jumped on by Cordner in the in-goal. Decision gone to the video ref.

23nd min: Minichiello screams through a hole on the left side thanks to Anasta's neat ball. On the next play Pearce kicks to the right corner but with Perrett steaming onto the ball and looking a chance to score it careers over the sideline. Panthers stuck in their own area for a while now.

20th min: Panthers enjoying the greater share of possession here. They shut down the Roosters' latest attacking raid with relative ease, as Braith Anasta's left-footed grubber is dived on by Brad Tighe.

17th min: Roosters' defence breaking up here. Kevin Kingston has shot down the field from dummy half, with Boyd Cordner called out of tackling him by the referees. It comes to nothing though as Travis Burns lets it loose seconds later in a tackle by Sam Perrett.

15th min: TRY Panthers. Barnstorming four-pointer to New Zealand prop Sam McKendry. There was a Roosters turnover on halfway and from nearly 30 metres out McKendry has beaten four Roosters to crash over. Minichiello, in his defence, had little chance of stopping the big forward close to his line. Try converted. Panthers 6-0.

13th min: Good quality start to this match. It's been end to end stuff so far. The Roosters feeding a scrum on their own 30 metre line after a Clint Newton knock on.

11th min: Guerra makes a half break down the left side and another bomb goes up. However, Minichiello is judged to have knocked on in the contest with Lachlan Coote.

9th min: The Roosters waltz down the other end with ease and Mitchell Pearce puts up a towering bomb. But great take in the air from winger Etu Uaisale. GWS scouts take note.

7th min: Clint Newton pinged for a forward pass to Jennings with his side on the attack. The Roosters not made to pay.

6th min: So Anthony Minichiello can't do everything right. He was the hero last week but has had a little fumble in his own in-goal there. Luke Walsh's grubber did the trick and the Panthers have a repeat set.

4th min: First penalty of the game. Aidan Guerra penalised for a second effort on Penrith centre Michael Jennings. Penrith start their set on the 30 metre line.

2nd min: Penrith getting some good early field position but Travis Burns' attempted bomb is charged down and the Roosters clean it up.

Kick-off: Panthers halfback Luke Walsh gets proceedings underway for the pink and blacks.

Pre-game: The Mortimer change is an interesting one. The Roosters say he is not injured, and he was good standing in for Anasta on his club debut last Monday.

The big team news is that Braith Anasta is back for the Roosters and that the Panthers are without wingers Michael Gordon, due to a fractured fibula, and David Simmons, due to Frank Pritchard's shoulder. There are some late changes as well. The Roosters have dropped Daniel Mortimer off the bench and brought in Anthony Mitchell. Penrith, who appear to be wearing pink jumpers, have several changes. Tim Grant and Blake Austin are out through injury and Danny Galea and Nafe Seluini come in. Dayne Weston starts at prop, Clint Newton begins in the back-row and Cameron Ciraldo goes back to the bench to join Chris Armit, Galea and Seluini.

Greetings rugby league fans and welcome to our live coverage of the Sydney Roosters' first home match of the season against the Penrith Panthers. We're at the ground previously known as the Sydney Football Stadium and Aussie Stadium - Allianz Stadium. It's a beautiful afternoon here in Sydney and the assembly of Roosters fans already through the gate are hoping to see their team remain unbeaten after two rounds. Brian Smith's side, of course, pulled off a miracle last-minute win over Souths last Monday while the Panthers blew a lead against Canterbury in their season opener. Ivan Cleary's men lacked imagination and will have to be much better today.
