Live: Parramatta v Manly

Live scores: Roosters v Warriors

That's it from us tonight.  Be sure to log on again tomorrow as we continue our coverage of the NRL's Heritage Round.  Thanks for your company.

'It's been a long couple of weeks and a hard couple of weeks," says Hayne.

Full-time here at Parramatta Stadium.  You can almost feel the weight lifting off the shoulders of Steve Kearney and there'll be plenty of cheers in the dressing room tonight.  A few contenders for man of the match, particularly up front.  Tim Mannah was sensational early, while Nathan Hindmarsh led from the front with nigh on 40 tackles and 15 hit-ups.  Jarryd Hayne's two tries and generally good kicking game can't be discounted either.

The Parramatta Stadium fireworks have started early.  And why not?  Parra pick up the two points for their first win of the season.  They'll still be at the bottom of the ladder, but they're not too far behind Manly now.  That's three losses on the trot for the Sea Eagles.

79 min: GOAL - Sandow adds a penalty to extend the lead to 29-20.

78 min: Hayne drills the ball into the in-goal for a dropout.  That's curtains for the defending premiers.

77 min: Roberts busts the line and probably bombs a try by going himself.  Sandow inside him unmarked.

76 min: Fuifui steamrolling up the field.  Breaks about five tackles before Chris Sandow gets the field goal shot away and it's successful.  27-20.  Which of these sides is in 'crisis' again?

75 min: Is that it for Manly?  The Eagles attack the left this time and a ball bound for the Wolfman, David Williams, instead finds touch.

74 min: PENALTY  - Brett Stewart cops a forearm from Reni Maitua, who's placed on report, and Stewart's still on the canvas.

73 min: Five from five for Sandow tonight, and the Eels lead by six.  26-20.

72 min: Sandow is taking the kick.

71 min: PENALTY - Jason King ruled offside as the ball strikes him just outside his own in-goal.  Will the Eels take the two here?  Could get them out to a converted try.

69 min: Parra attacking again and Sandow just about decapitates himself running into the upright.  Now that's dedication to chasing the ball.  Still no change to the scoreline, Parramatta 24, Manly 20.

67 min: Kieran Foran looks to be in all sorts of trouble.  Possibly a hamstring or a corked thigh, either way he's straight off the field and that's not good news for Manly at all.

66 min: Blair makes no mistake fielding a high Cherry-Evans ball.

65 min: Ballin attacking that right flank again.

63 min: A bone-cruncher from Hindmarsh on Stewart brings the fans to their feet, and once again that pendulum might be moving.

62 min: And Sandow dutifully adds the extras, 24-20 to Parra.

60 min: TRY - Out of nowhere, Hayne makes it a double and Parra take the lead.  Roberts breaks the line with panache before a perfect ball to Hayne has the returning fullback scoring under the sticks.  22-20 with a kick to come, and it should be 24-20 in a matter of moments.

59 min: A weak set from the Eels there and Morgan goes to ground on the fifth tackle.  Manly on the attack once more.  Still 20-18 their way.

58 min: Manly error on their second tackle, the Eels with a chance now.

57 min: DCE's kick hits the uprights and stays out.  And the score stays 20-18.  Once again, that right side fails the Eels.

I'm told there's some problems with our live feed tonight.  I'm currently kicking the person who's kicking the server, and I might just keep doing it because as I type, Jamie Buhrer has atoned for a few errors earlier with a try.  Manly hit the lead for the first time 20-18 with a kick to come.

55 min: Good dropout from Sandow, at least 52m on the fly.

54 min: Cheyse Blair taken in-goal and Manly have another set.  You can feel the pendulum swinging firmly their way.

52 min: Plenty of claret coming from the head of Ryan Morgan after a clash with Matai gives both sides a chance for a breather.  Matai to resume 30m out from the Eels' line.

49 min: As Adrian Proszenko pointed out at half-time, the Eels have looked very suspect on that right flank.  And immediately, attacking that side has paid dividends for the defending premiers.  Cherry Evans adds the extras and it's a two-point game, 18-16 with the slender lead going the way of the hosts.

48 min: TRY - Jorge Taufua scores his first try in the top grade and what better time to do it?  A beautiful cut-out ball from Stewart goes straight to the winger who crosses in the corner.  18-14, kick to come for Manly.

47 min: A return set for the Sea Eagles and they'll be fancying their chances.  Cherry-Evans to feed the scrum on the Eels' 10m line.

46 min: Ben Roberts tries to get tricky with a spiralling ball to the left flank which goes into Row B.  A golden opportunity for the defending premiers to get back in touch.

45 min: Manly looking dangerous now through Ballin and Cherry Evans.  But Hayne more than equal to the task of marking Foran's kick under pressure.

43 min: Hayne's kick has just a bit too much on it as Cheyse Blair screams into the in-goal.  Manly taking iut up just inside their own half.

42 min: PENALTY - Steve Matai offside and the Eels have a chance to extend their lead early.

41 min: Buhrer knocks on courtesy of a big hit and the Eels celebrate like they've won the match.  They can smell the win here and they've lost none of their first-half intensity at the break.

40 min: Manly get us underway for the second term.

Teams back on the field for the second half, plenty more cheers for Parra as they take the field.

The Eels led by 12 at one stage but the halftime lead is now eight which, as the old beer ad predicted - Manly's coming back.

Proszenko: "A much improved performance by Parramatta in the opening half. There was so much pressure and expectation on Jarryd Hayne to spark the side and it didn't take him long to deliver, scoring in just the sixth minute. His return, coupled with Nathan Hindmarsh's retirement announcement, sparked the Eels.
The home side's kicking game and overall attitude was much better, although the right-edge defence remains a concern. If they don't tighten this up in the second half, they could get overrun.  This time the Parra fans cheered, rather than booed, their side off the field. We have a contest!"

What a difference a week makes.  Booed at the break by their fans last week, the Eels faithful are ebullient in their praise tonight.  And deservedly so, it's been a top performance from the Parramatta side and it's good to see them playing good footy again.  As for Manly, they've looked good with the ball in their hand but their habit of giving sides a start in all matches this year (bar the season-opener against the Warriors) has hurt them in the past fortnight.  We'll be back in a few minutes with Adrian Proszenko's half-time assessment and tonight's mid-match entertainment.

40 min: Manly get another chance with a scrum just their side of half-way.  The siren sounds and that will do us for the opening term.

39 min: PENALTY to Parra, and the Eels should have the final say before half-time.

38 min: Great pressure from the Sea Eagles on Hayne as he fields a high ball.  The fullback does well to get back out of his in-goal however, and he's moving a little gingerly.  Doesn't seem serious though.

37 min: And the conversion attempt from Cherry-Evans is a shocker.  Score remains 18-10.

36 min: Watmough's try is awarded.  Eels 18-10 with a kick to come, Manly might just head into the sheds with some momentum.

35 min: TRY - The Wrecking Ball, Anthony Watmough, appears to capitalise on a comedy of errors there to ground the ball.  Going upstairs but it looks good.  How good?  So good Bruce Springsteen wrote a song about him.

Good completion rates from both sides but the scoreboard makes it obvious whose done more with it.  Parra have completed 15 of their 18 sets, while Manly boast 12 from 15.

33 min: Into the dying stages of the first half and Parramatta pressuring again.  Stewart fields Hayne's kick and just finds his way back into the field of play.

31 min: Sandow attempts a field goal, and, frankly, the less said the better.  Good vision, but he's kicked the ball away now.

29 min: Another opportunity goes begging for Manly - some nice work from Cherry-Evans in the middle of the fiel before a pass finds the sideline.  Eels with the feed deep in their own territory

28 min: Manly get their chance to hit back as the Eels cough it up 25m out on the first tackle.

27 min: Sorry about that less than partial comment.  As Sandow lines up the conversion from the sideline, I've sent myself to the naughty corner.  The ex-Rabbitoh lands it and it's 18-6.

25 min: TRY - Massive hit-up from Fui, several Manly players headed by DCE struggle to stop him but eventually do before a quick move wide has Sio over in the corner.  16-6, Parramatta's season looking a little brighter, and why did it have to be tonight?

25 min: PENALTY to the Eels, good position for Parramatta or will they opt to extend the lead?

24 min: Numbers out wide for Manly after a penalty but it's gone to ground courtesy of Jamie Buhrer.  Too many cooks in that one.

21 min: TRY - Parramatta 12-6.

19 min: Change for Parra - Tim Mannah on for Mitch Allgood.

15 min: DCE adds the extras and we're all locked up.  6-6.

13 min: TRY - And just like that, the Sea Eagles are back in it.  Matai makes another break before putting on the toe and Brett Stewart chases it down to score under the sticks.  6-4 with a kick to come

12 min: What a waste.  Parra just inches out from the Manly line on the fifth tackle, and there's no-one at dummy-half.  That's almost inexcusable.

11 min: Still 6-0 to the home side at Parramatta Stadium, and, unexpected as it may be, the defending premiers would be happy with that scoreline.  It's been a sensational start from the Eels as far as creating opportunities goes, but more often than not they've been found wanting at the business end.

10 min: Was that a falcon?  Fuifui Moimoi absolutely steaming into the in-goal in pursuit of Sandow's kick before Stewart knocks it on, straight into Fuifui's melon-melon.  Line dropout.

9 min: Another break from Parra.  Hayne almost makes it through.

9 min: Manly look determined on the attack through Taufua.  He's been good early.

7 min: Sandow adds the extras.  6-0 to the Eels and a dream start for Steve Kearney's still-winless side.

5 min: TRY - a Cheyse Blair break leads to Parra opening the scoring.  Hayne goes high to take the kick and it's Parramatta 4-0.  Kick to come

4 min: Welcome back Matai - a bustling run has the Eagles just 20m out.  But the Eels are back in possession.
Team news both sides of the harbour as Parra get us under way.  Co-captain Jamie Lyon is out for Manly, while Michael Oldfield has been relegated to the bench.  Jorge Taufua and Steve Matai fill the void.  For Parramatta, Esi Tonga is out, but better news is the return of Jarryd Hayne.

Here we go again.  It's Manly and Parra, and welcome to Parramatta Stadium for tonight's clash.  There's been plenty of talk about one-club men this week in the wake of Nathan Hindmarsh announcing his retirement and, in the interest of full disclosure, transparency and all those things you read about in the front of your Herald, it's a good time to point out I'm as one-eyed a Silvertail as they come.  But, as Hindy will attest, professionalism always wins out and I'll endeavour to be as neutral as Switzerland tonight.

Join the Twitter outlaw, James Polson, for live coverage as two of rugby league's great rivals clash. Manly need only think back to last year to remember premiership success.  Eels fans that remember a title are either elephants, or liars.
