Again, the Titans have a real dig. Again, they come up short. That's their fifth loss in a row and they are a club that has forgotten how to win football games.
The 18-12 win to the Roosters was based on cream rising to the top when it mattered. The Titans had every chance to get a vital victory at Skilled Park but a second-half, five-minute blitz engineered by Anthony Minichiello, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Braith Anasta and Mitchell Pearce was too much for them to handle.
It's six-all before the Roosters scored twice in as many minutes, with Kenny-Dowall and Minichiello going over in the 54th and 56th minute respectively to blow out the score. David Mead scored his second for the Titans with seven minutes to play but the Gold Coast lacked the creativity to send it to extra time.
Key men Anthony Minichiello was an absolute rock at the back for the Roosters. The Titans bombed him relentlessly but he never even looked like dropping one. His try under the posts was the Titan-killer as well. For the Titans, Nate Myles was immense and is earning his big dollars. He made 45 tackles and toiled like a freight train.
Numbers game The Titans missed 36 tackles. The Roosters missed 21. When the Titans missed, they were often made to pay.
What it all means The win over the Warriors was no fluke for the Roosters. They are playing fast and furious football and that's four wins for them in 2012. The Titans are trying hard - no doubt about that - but need badly to find a second option in attack other than Prince. Where he went, so did his side's attack and the Roosters clamped down in a hurry.
FULLTIME Roosters 18 Titans 12.
80th min A penalty right on the bell for the Titans and they will get ONE play to force extra time.
79th min Breathe, Roosters fans. That's valiant defence and they are going to win this one. Nothing happening when it mattered most for the Titans.
78th min Ordinary set from the Gold Coast. They try to chug it up the middle through Douglas on the final tackle for some reason. Manages to offload luckily but the grubber is easily handled. But Kennedy is hammered by Myles and the Titans win the scrum feed right in front of the Roosters' posts. Just over a minute to play now and this is guts or glory now for the Titans. A converted try will level scores at 18-all.
76th min Prince sends it high and Minichiello takes a clutch grab on his line. He's rumbled back into the in-goal though and the Titans live again. The Roosters drop it out and the Gold Coast rack it up. Roosters lead 18-12.
75th min Wonderful pressure kick from Price and that's as true as they get. It sails over, the score is 18-12 to the Roosters and we might have a finish on our hands after all. Five minutes and counting.
72nd min TRY to the Titans! A pair of penalties and Mead gets his second. It's about seven or eight metres in from touch and a massive kick coming up now for Prince. It's 18-10.
71st min The Roosters turning it on now. Delicious football as it goes side-to-side and back down the middle. The Titans hang on somehow but must have nothing left in the legs. They get a penalty now though, which will help. But they need to score right now.
69th min Anasta tries the field goal. From right. In. Front. But misses. Somehow. The Roosters still lead 18-6 and they look as if they are going to pour some more pain on the Titans.
66th min Idris back on for the Titans so the hamstring is ok. They scoreline isn't, sadly for them but happily for Roosters fans. The visitors playing good percentage football at the moment and the Titans battling to get out of their own end. It's 18-6 to the Roosters.
63rd min Near thing from the Titans! They bolt away but the Roosters hustle brilliantly in defence and get a hand in the last pass to save the try. That might have been the golden ticket for the Titans. Not to be though and they still trail 18-6, although a few errors from the Roosters are giving them a sniff if they're good enough.
62nd min Crucial defensive set for the Gold Coast and they hold up. Still in this one theoretically the Titans but they need to score next. Roosters lead 18-6 after a quickfire double.
60th min Steve Michaels gets up slapping the grass after he drops it five metres out from his own line. Fair to say it's game over if the Titans concede here. They trail 18-6.
57th min It's a good thing they scored then. The play before, Leilua was away and had Anasta unmarked on his inside. He didn't even look and Anasta jogged towards the tryline with his hands in the air. They went in 10 seconds later so no harm done.
56th min TRY to Minichiello for the Roosters. Carving them to bite-sized pieces at the moment. Right under the posts and this will be 18-6 after the kic. Inside-ball from Pearce and they don't get much easier. Titans have packed up shop.
54th min Good counter from the Roosters. They soaked up a mountain of pressure and countered superbly. The Titans have had all the chances in this half but Prince is the sole go-to man in attack and the Roosters reading it with relative ease. Anasta on fire with the boot as well - gets one from a tough angle and they lead 12-6.
53rd min Idris in the rooms getting a massage on his hamstring. That's not a great sign. Not sure he'll be back but if he can even get another 10 minutes tonight it could be valuable. And here for the Roosters! Great break down the middle and Anasta kicks ahead for Kenny-Dowall. It's gone upstairs but that's bound to be number two for the Kiwi centre. That's a TRY for the Roosters! It's 10-6.
51st min Some very good defence here from the Gold Coast. Big contact with Nate Myles dishing out plenty of damage today. They really are giving the fans something to cheer about at the moment, the Titans, even if they don't have the wins to show for it. Not lacking in commitment tonight in any case. It's all square at 6-6.
49th min Idris off the field and that's a good stint from him. Lots of impact in his first appearance for a while. The Roosters throw one to the touch judge as I type that, which ends a fairly promising set that began in the middle of the field and went wide with good pace. Kenny-Dowall tried to bat it on but the only person able to catch it was busy waving a flag. It's 6-6.
46th min No try. Harrison went over but Michaels ran a dud line and impeded Arona as he tried to make the tackle. Straight forward and that's the right call. Score remains 6-6 but the Titans looking more likely just at the moment.
44th min A couple of scoots here from the Gold Coast and they've had all the ball to start this second half. Ouch! Minichiello throws the pass in his in-goal to Anasta, who looks up to see the whites of Jamal Idris' eyes. Was right on top of him as he caught that ball and the big Titans centre belted him over the deadball line. Good kick by Prince set that up. The Titans think they've gone over here but we're heading upstairs. Possible obstruction.
42nd min We're back. So, so back. And so is Idris, who rattles off a big shot on BJ Leilua and wins his side the Steeden. There was a neat 10 errors a piece from both sides in the first half, which is rather terrible, so it stands to reason that whoever can catch it wins it.
HALFTIME Titans 6 Roosters 6.
39th min That's a rough play from Harrison. Drops another one, this time right on his own line. Terrible timing as the clock ticks down. If the Titans concede one right on halftime, John Cartwright could dynamite the Centre of Excellence. It's 6-6.
38th min Prince puts in the grubber but it just beats the chase of Rankin. No touch from the Roosters though and they get the restart instead of dropping it out.
35th min The Roosters keep infringing just as they have the Titans trapped in their own end. Silly stuff. There's another one and the home side gets another walk up the field. Prince heavily involved tonight - maybe his mojo is returning. Kenny-Dowall breaks loose now but Rankin closes in and chops him down. Very hard to pick a winner in this one so far. It's 6-6.
32nd min The Titans just can't make the most of their chances. Nor can the Roosters, to be honest. I'd think both sides would be sure they'd have earned another try each at least in this half. Not much play in midfield - it's been at either end. Score is 6-6 with tries to Kenny-Dowall and Mead.
29th min Great shot from Mead. Hammers Carney into touch as the Roosters winger jumps for the pass. He might have thought he was a chance to score for a second there but was crunched by the Titans winger. Textbook stuff.
26th min First sign of Idris as he replaces O'Dwyer. The Titans pressing again but a penalty to the Roosters. Justin Carney makes a good leap at the bomb and Idris slides in underneath. He tumbles to the deck rather acrobatically but no harm done. It's 6-6.
24th min Prince kicks it from the sideline and it's 6-6. Another silly penalty given away by the Roosters and the Titans get going again.
21st min The Roosters lose it as they attack the line and the Titans thought David Mead should have been let gallop away. Instead it's called back for the knock on and now the Titans get given a ride up the park with a penalty. They've had enough changes the Titans and need to get something from this trip. And here's the TRY! Super feet from Mead as he takes the pass from O'Dwyer and he dives over in the corner. It's 6-4 to the Roosters as the Titans line up this kick from the sideline.
19th min Or at least it was quality possession. Poor dummy half pass, it goes to the turf, the Roosters pick it up and get a relieving penalty. Way to get out of your own 10m zone. Roosters lead 6-0.
18th min Awful mistake from Waerea-Hargreaves. Dropped it right in front of his posts and does the old 'look at the hands'. Sadly, it hasn't rained down here for about a fortnight so not much moisture about. Roosters lead 6-0 but big chance again for the Gold Coast. This is quality possession.
16th min Anasta it is that adds the extra two and the Roosters go up 6-0. But they lose it first tackle from the re-start! Great chance for the Titans. Absolute gift.
15th min Safe to say the Roosters aren't treating Nate Myles with kid gloves. There's been some fairly vocal calls to bring him down and here's a TRY! Shaun Kenny-Dowall goes over and that's a little soft from the Gold Coast. Just forced his way over from dummy half without too much difficulty. The Roosters lead 4-0.
13th min That kick too long from Prince and the Roosters get the 20m restart. Harrison smothers Pearce in that tackle and both sides looking a little loose with the ball. It's been up for grabs on the deck a few times. The Roosters having a real crack at Steve Michaels on their right-hand side. They see a weakness there and his miss earlier will only make them more confident to funnel their attack in his direction. Score remains 0-0.
9th min Poor miss by Michaels one-on-one in the centres but the Titans hold on as the Roosters with a penalty. Fresh set right on the Titans line now for the red, white and blue but that's a good scramble from the Titans and they save the day. Still 0-0.
7th min Great attack from the Titans and great counter from the Chooks. The GC skipped clear down the right flank but a loose pass undid their work. Minichiello saw the opportunity and scurried away across the other side before he was rounded up. Both sides have come to play tonight. Score remains 0-0.
4th min The Roosters chant has gone up! Do they get a chant at home? Is it possible there are more Roosters fans on the Gold Coast than in Sydney? Worth investigating. Meanwhile, the Titans pinned down their end at the moment and are trying to work their way out of trouble. Roosters having the better going so far. It's 0-0.
2nd min Righto. That's a terrible start for the Titans. Ash Harrison drops one cold as he hits it up and the Roosters pack the scrum 40m out. I'm sure I'm not the only person hoping Jared Waerea-Hargreaves does something completely insane tonight.
5.30pm Good afternoon sports fans. The Roosters run out and are as per program. A few changes for the Titans, with Mark Minichiello out, Michael Henderson on the bench and Jamal Idris a late inclusion. He also comes off the bench and could be the spark the Titans need. They looked likely against the Bulldogs last week and I think this will be a close one tonight. Good news for the club during the week with a bit of hire furniture and some fresh mulch in the gardens helping to shift the Centre of Excellence. Let's see if they can find some positive news between the white lines today. Thanks for tuning into our live coverage.
