Broncos ride roughshod over Raiders
All the action from Brisbane's 30-6 round seven NRL win over the Canberra Raiders.
Thanks for joining us for our live blog tonight. The Broncos were way too strong across the park for the Raiders tonight. Justin Hodges was unstoppable, making seven tackle breaks, while Corey Norman continues to grow into Darren Lockyer's No.6 jumper superbly. The Broncos' big men never tired in an impressive team performance. After a bright start, the Raiders fell away and were never in the hunt after about 20 minutes. Their woes were compounded with another injury to skipper Terry Campese, who hobbled off just before half-time with what appears to be a medial ligament strain. Make sure you check out The Canberra Times, The Sydney Morning Herald and LeagueHQ tomorrow for the wrap up of tonight's clash.
Full-time: And in keeping with the theme of the match, a knock-on from McCrone ends proceedings. Broncos 30 - Raiders 6.
78th min: Full-time can't come soon enough. Neither side can hold the ball here. It's been like watching a Super Rugby game!
69th min: TRY! Beautiful stuff from the Broncos there. Andrew McCullough dribbles through a pinpoint grubber under the sticks for Norman to score. They haven't skipped a beat tonight without Peter Wallace calling the big plays. Parker converts and it's Broncos 30 - Raiders 6.
65th min: The Broncos are nearly in again after a bust from Corey Norman, but the play comes unstuck with the Raiders under the pump.
58th min: Hodges is in the thick of it again, rushing up to force Reece Robinson into an error with the Raiders on the attack.
53rd min: TRY! Jarrod Croker won't want to watch that replay. Justin Hodges embarrasses the Raiders centre from dummy-half, breezing through a soft tackle before linking up with Ben Hunt to send him over to complete a 60m play. Seriously, when Hodge gets to dummy-half, he hasn't passed the ball in his NRL career. Players must know he will run it. Stopping him is another matter. Parker sprays the conversion from out wide to the right. This could get ugly for the Raiders if they drop their heads. Broncos 24 - Raiders 6.
50th min: The Raiders finally get a penalty. And it's a very welcome one as it walks them up to the 40m line with McCrone's touch-finder.
49th min: Outstanding! Joel Thompson tries to throw a swinging arm but ends up collecting his teammate Joe Picker! He's been put on report for that. The Raiders can't afford to give away metres for free here. Give yourself an uppercut Joel!
47th min: But Josh Papalii spills the ball to let the Broncos off the hook.
45th min: Justin Hodges loses the ball, to give the Raiders a chance to get back in the game.
44th min: Now Hoffman is down injured with the Broncos deep on the attack close to the Raiders' tryline.
Injury update: The first thoughts from the dressing room are that the Raiders' medical staff don't think Campese has done his ACL. It appears to be a medial strain, which is much more positive news for the Raiders.
Second-half: The second half is under way here. Still no news on Campo's injury.
On replay Campese went down clutching at his heavily-strapped left knee. It was an innocuous incident where Campese went in to make a tackle on Josh McGuire. We'll bring you some news as it comes to hand.
A possible Raiders reshuffle could see Jack Wighton switch into five-eighth where he has played most of his junior football, with Jarrod Croker going to the wing and Joel Thompson moving to the centres.
Half-time: That's the way the score will remain at the break. But the big news here is a potentially serious leg injury to Campese. Fingers crossed it's not what it looked like for the Green Machine. It's hard to see how they can come back in the second half here. The Broncos dominated the final 25 minutes on the back of some silly Raiders penalties and quick play-the-balls.
39th min: By the way, it is a TRY to Corey Norman. That might be the ball game. Beautiful flick pass from nearly on the ground by Gillett set that four-pointer up. Parker converts and at half-time it's Broncos 20 - Raiders 6.
39th min: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Raiders fans, it's a nightmare. Campese has been chaired from thefield with an injury. It doesn't look good.
39th min: We're going to the video ref for another possible try to the Broncos. Doubt about obstruction.
38th min: The Raiders get a chance from a Broncos knock-on but Dale Copley leaps high to catch Campese's bomb at the end of the set.
35th min: TRY! Chris Ward gives it. Gillett looked to be held up for an age but eventually wriggled free to get the ball down. Roosters fans, think back to Hazem El Masri's 'try' in the 2004 GF. How long do you have to be held for? Parker finally nails a conversion from the same spot. The Raiders need half-time badly. Broncos 14 - Raiders 6
35th min: We're going to the video referee again for a possible Matt Gillett try. An inside ball from Corey Norman send Gillett spinning towards the line.
34th min: Blake Ferguson battles hard to get back in the field of play but the Raiders are forced into a line drop-out.
33rd min: The Broncos are right on top here. Another penalty late in the count gives them a set which starts 20m out from the Raiders' tryline.
29th min: TRY! Chris Ward still looks at it three times for reasons unknown. Pretty soft defence from the Raiders as Hannant just barged over from close range. Parker has done it again, he's shanked it from the same spot. Locky reckons Parker has cut his hair since last week as well! What's doing? Get in their with the No.1 and shave the rest off at half-time someone! Broncos 8 - Raiders 6.
29th min: We're going to the video ref for a potential try to the Woolly Mammoth, Ben Hannant. There's no doubt about it.
26th min: Papalii gives away another penalty late in the tackle count and the Broncos will start their set from the halfway line.
23rd min: A try goes begging there for the Broncos. About 12 of them missed a grubber in the in goal but on replay, Blake Ferguson has got away with a sneaky one! He held back Jack Reed as he was about to pounce for the try.
19th min: TRY! Sam Thaiday goes over for the home side from a beautiful short ball close to the line by Ben Hunt. The Broncos blew a similar opportunity to give Thaiday the ball only moments ago but make no mistake this time. Corey Parker shanks the conversion horribly from close range. He's caught the Crokers! In fairness, he's probably still thinking about his haircut and what went wrong with it. Raiders 6 - Broncos 4.
16th min: Josh Papalii is in a bit of trouble here for a lifting tackle on Dale Copley, but he isn't put on report.
13th min: Anthony McCullough makes a half-bust but his ball over the top is picked off by Josh McCrone. Raiders on the attack. But Campese's bomb is poor at the end of the set and the Raiders can't do anything with it.
11th min: Josh Hoffman looked to be struggling with an injury, but he got out of goal brilliantly there in evading Raiders winger Blake Ferguson. The Raiders are on top so far.
5th min: TRY! Video ref Chris Ward finally sees what everyone did on the first look (after his 12,000th) and Picker is awarded a 'benefit of the doubt' try. Jarrod Croker sneaks in the conversion off the right-hand upright and it's Raiders 6 - Broncos 0.
5th min: They're looking at this 1000 times, which should make everyone very, very nervous.
5th min: We're going to the video ref for a possible try to the Raiders' Joe Picker. A scrappy McCrone grubber was picked up by Picker, who dragged the ball over the line. Looks pretty good.
3rd min: Terry Campese puts a spiralling bomb into orbit. It comes down right near the upright and Josh Hoffman can't get away cleanly before being dragged in goal by Josh McCrone for a drop-out.
2nd min: But Ben Hunt's cross-field bomb to complete the set has too much weight on it.
1st min: Coach-killer. The Raiders give away a penalty on the fourth tackle to put the Broncos on the attack.
Fireworks greet the players at Suncorp Stadium. Let's hope there are a few on the field when two of the biggest forward packs in the NRL collide.
Team news: In a late change for the Raiders, Joel Thompson comes onto the bench, forcing Jarrad Kennedy out of the 17.
Preamble: The Broncos are on a roll, but the Raiders are due to string two together. Whether Campese plays or not, this is expected to be a cracker, live from Suncorp Stadium.
