    Live: Titans v Tigers

That's a dagger in the heart for the Gold Coast Titans, who looked certain to get an energising win at home before it all went so horribly wrong in the final minutes, ending with a Robbie Farah field goal in extra time to earn a 15-14 victory for the Tigers at Skilled Park.

Spare a tought for Jordan Rankin. In fact, spare a great deal of thought for Jordan Rankin. The Titans five-eighth is only 20 but could be forgiven for wanting to hang up the boots after those final minutes. He will have to get therapy to stop him having nightmares about Farah.

It was Rankin's kick in the last minute that was charged down by Farah, leading to a penalty as Phil Graham took out the Tigers hooker in a race for the ball. Benji Marshall levelled the scores with a shot at goal to send it to OT, before Rankin dropped it cold in his side's first possession.

Farah calmly slotted the left-footer over the crossbar and the Tigers escape - in every sense of the word - with a victory at Robina.

The Good Aidan Sezer is a genuine find for the Titans. He was terrific for the Gold Coast from halfback tonight and deserved to ride off into the sunset as a winner. His kicking game was clinical and dangerous and he controlled the match with the command of a much more experienced player.

The bad This really looked like it was the first home win of the year for the Titans. They played the first half, in particular, with energy and commitment and had the outcome at their fingertips. That they managed to blow it will only heap more pressure on a club fighting off critics from all sides.

The ugly You can't say Phil Graham wasn't involved but it wasn't always of aesthetic value. His botched attempt to grab a grubber almost gifted a try to the Tigers and he ended up being marched for a professional foul, which was possibly understandable as Farah chased a loose ball within scoring range. It was brilliant at times, loathsome on other occasions. But we couldn't look away.

Key stat Field goals: Farah (1/1).

    -----------------

    FULLTIME Tigers 15 Titans 14.

3rd min (extra time) Game over. Robbie Farah with the left foot right in front. Tigers 15 Titans 14.

1st min (extra time) Titans recieve and work it out of their half. A long way from home and Jordan Rankin makes another blunder! Drops it cold and sets up the Tigers PERFECTLY. Dear of dear.

FULLTIME It's Titans 14 Tigers 14 and the teams will have a drink before golden point. The Titans will play one man down with Phil Graham in the bin. Here we go folks.

80th min Will the Titans tempt fate with a short restart? Nope.

80th min Marshall gets it and it's 14-all with 50 seconds left.

79th min Titans cautioned for time wasting. I can't for the life of me imagine why they would want the clock to run down. But no! A penalty right in front to the Tigers and Graham has gone to the sin bin for a professional foul! Farah charged down a very silly Rankin kick, the hooker chased and may have scored if Graham hadn't shunted him out of the way. Not really a cause for a penalty try but Tigers fans wouldn't have minded. Now Marshall will kick this from in front and we are headed to OT surely.

78th min What's happened! It's gone upstairs and the Tigers may have gone 80m to score! Murdoch-Masila, has he? No! He's out! NO TRY! Massive relief after Idris threw the intercept down the other end. What a tackle, David Mead. Titans 14 Tigers 12 and it DOES NOT GET closer than that.

76th min Titans snuff out everything the Tigers throw at them and then win the penalty! Graham was flattened as he waited to grab the Marshall bomb. They might hang on yet the Gold Coast1 They lead 14-12 with just four minutes on the clock. Gutsy stuff.

74th min Graham nearly gets clear! Taken down by Moltzen in the last line of defence. And Sezer puts a clinical kick across the field to trap the Tigers in their in-goal and get a restart. How's that for clutch play from the kid. They have six minutes to hold on and hard not to think the Tigers haven't shown them enough respect tonight. It's Titans 14 Tigers 12.

71st min The ground announcer here is reminiscent of an NBL game in the 80s. And the marching band is still drumming away, as they would at an American high school football game. But Titans fans don't give a hoot because their side is still winning 14-12 and for the first time since about halftime, not defending on their own tryline.

68th min Marshall so tricky there that his trickiness, well, was just a bit of rubbish. Tried to dance along the sideline and chip for himself. Problem was it went two metres in the air and two metres forward and was caught by one of the four or five Titans players standing right next to him. They'll need to show the Titans more respect than that. Score remains 14-12 to the home side and it's hard to split them.

65th min Super defence from the Titans! Blair tries to smash his way over but drops the ball. Crowd is 14,254 and they loved that, with good reason. Lots of ticker from the Titans on that occasion. They lead 14-12.

64th min Gordon almost away! The Benji kick goes right to him and only a grab on the shoulder from Ayshford sees him spill the ball. He. Would. Not. Have. Been. Caught. It's still 14-12 to the Titans and they are holding on for dear life.

63rd min All Tigers. Marshall forgoes the chance to knock over a penalty from in front to press for a try.

61st min Watching Joel Reddy trying to beat a man one-on-one then reminded me of why he's known as a defensive specialist. He looked like a dog running back and forth along a fence trying to find a gate that doesn't exist. Tigers earn another crack though after trapping Mead behind his tryline.

60th min What's that smell? Could be Phil Graham. Makes another mistake at the back and instead of diving on a grubber, ends up dinking it into touch to give the Tigers a red-hot go now. Titans lead 14-12 but for how long?

58th min The tide has turned noticeably here. Massive question to be answered by the Titans. Have they got enough in the tank and enough resolve to deliver a win for some home fans that badly need cheering up? They need to ensure Farah isn't allowed to run free like he did in the lead-up to that last try and keep Marshall on ice.

55th min Possibly eight-point try here to the Tigers, the refs are saying. I don't think so but the Tigers score the TRY through Blake Ayshford. Graham came across with some knees but he jumped to get out of the way, not to dig them in. Marshall gets it and it's game on - Titans 14 Tigers 12.

53rd min And now a penalty to the Titans. That's got to hurt.

52nd min Try to the Tigers? That's a bad mistake from my man Phil Graham off the Farah kick. Not a great bounce but he couldn't decide whether to get it on the deck or wait until it bounced up. It did neither, hit his knees and bounced right to the Tigers and Lote Tuqiri, who crosses but it's NO TRY! He was offside from a second little kick from Joel Reddy. Sneaky. It's still 14-6 to the Gold Coast.

47th min The entire press box erupted with an emphatic "good kick" there. In unison. Sezer sent it dancing down the sideline and put Moltzen back on his heels. The Tigers make some decent metres in the end but make a meal of it down the left hand touchline and are lucky not to give away a penalty either. It's Titans 14 Tigers 6.

44th Idris! Hands like feet! Great kick from Sezer finds Gordon on the wing and he somehow manages to flick it back inside for the big centre. Idris just wasn't ready and dropped it with the tryline begging - I mean literally begging him to score. Had to run between three and five metres. Massive escape for the Tigers and they still trail 14-6.

41st min We're back and the Titans hit the post off the restart. They've done that at least three times at home this year, if not more. Zillman did it twice in one game against the Roosters. Titans would LOVE to win this game. They are yet to win at home this season and have won just a single game in their past 12 at Skilled Park. I remember when they tried to get it called the Temple of Boom. Temple of Gloom may work better. Maybe not tonight, though.

    HALFTIME Titans 14 Tigers 6.

Here's a few thoughts from the first 40 minutes...

    • As it turns out, having an injury crisis in the halves isn't always a terrible thing. Aidan Sezer has looked great tonight for the Gold Coast and has taken on extra responsibility with Prince out. His bomb was behind the first try and he's kicked beautifully.
    • The Titans have too much energy and enthusiasm, as much as anything. Not bad for a side in the doldrums. They are chasing kicks with vigour, muscling up in tackles and running decent support, even if it isn't always particulary crisp.
    • All is not lost for the Tigers. A try to Farah near halftime keeps them in the game and he and Lawrence, two of their Origin possibles, have looked the most likely. Marshall has been quiet.

39th min Cameron Bird emails 'Go the mighty Tigers! Time to start playing boys!". Thanks Cam. Unfortunate timing, possibly, with your call for them to start playing right on halftime but we know what you mean.

No relation to Greg, I take it?

38th min Marshall drives it dead with a penetrating grubber to force a crucial scrum as the Titans try to protect their lead. I made that sound much, much more dramatic than it really was - it's 14-6 to the Titans.

37th min Benji Marshall adds the extras to make it 14-6 as the first half winds down.

36th min More patient attack from the Tigers this time and they have gone over! TRY to Robbie Farah. Repeat sets and he busts them open with a series of dummies to barge through. It's 14-4 and boy they needed that one.

32nd min The Titans are opening the Tigers up with ease tonight. A great movement ends in nothing but a Tigers penalty there but there's been very little to encourage the Tigers at all so far - apart from that Lawrence dummy as he almost scores. They get a repeat set. Titans lead 14-0.

28th min The Titans are very persistant tonight and the Tigers are falling off tackles and can't stop the second phase play. It's not enough sharp second phase, balls kinda dribbling out the back of tackles, but it's enough. Spun wide with speed, good inter-passing from the forwards and Mead does the job. So does Sezer - lovely conversion from right on the chalk and it's 14-0 to the Titans.

26th min Stroevey is nothing if not a trivia buff. He asks:

To fellow Tiger fans (and/or Phil) - who scored the only try for Balmain in the 2nd half of their 1969 11-2 Grand Final victory over Souths?

I am a Souths fan but can't give you an answer for that one. Anyone? Titans pressing again now.... lots of second phase for them and looking dangerous. TRY to Mead in the corner! It's 12-0!

23rd min Stroevey from Bathurst has rightly questioned my focus tonight.

"Phil - you don't seem focussed on the footy - a reflection of the standard of start from both teams?"

Perhaps a little of the latter but I've been waging war on lawn grubs in the yard today mate. Lawn grubs. In May! Can you believe it? Anyway, I must shake it off and bring something to the table here. Sezer just kicked that and the Titans lead 8-0. Tigers still on the bus.

22nd min Reddy thought he was away there as he battled Graham in a knock-on contest as they tried to grab the same bomb. Reddy won, which really means he lost. Score remains 6-0 to the Titans as they attack again! And now a penalty almost in front and Sezer is going to have a ping at goal.

19th min Chargedown from Srama! Moltzen was asleep but managed to get it as it came rebounding back to him from the blocked kick. The little Titans hooker chased and only needed a slight deviation in the bounce to score under the posts. That 6-0 lead was almost extended as the Tigers finally get a look at the Titans half.

17th min The Titans are really hustling for every metre tonight. Good to see. They are struggling this season, no doubt, but aren't quite as bad as people who haven't seen them play a great deal think. Sezer's bomb is again a good one but well taken by Tuqiri as he climbs above the pack right on his tryline. All Titans here and they lead 6-0.

15th min Aidan Sezer, who put up the bomb for Gordon's try, converts and the Gold Coast lead 6-0 here at Robina. Good start from the home side.

13th min Nique! No! Throws it away down the right but somehow the Titans gather, pass it to nobody a second time, then send it back to the other side and score a.... wait for it... TRY! IT's aspiring DJ Kevin Gordon and the Titans mix it up (see what I did there?) to lead 4-0 with a kick on the way.

10th min They have a marching band here. Do I sound like it's already annoying? More on that noise later I suspect. For now, the Titans snuff out a decent chance down the left by slamming Lote Tuqiri into touch and that's a good chase on that kick as well. The Titans are playing with an energy above their station on the competition ladder. It's 0-0.

7th min Bad mistake from Jordan Rankin, who is playing five-eighth tonight with Prince and Zillman both out injured and Sezer at halfback. Dropped it cold just as his side was pressing. In other news, does anyone know if Dominique Peyroux really is French? Great name. Nique. It's 0-0.

4th min An early chant of "Titans, Titans" goes up around the ground! Wait, I think it's "Tigers, Tigers". One set of fans is excited but I have no way to tell you which set. Not a bad chance for the Titans there. They may have the edge in the forwards here so they aren't without a chance.

2nd min We're away. Missed the jump sorry. I was temporarily blinded by the bright red socks the Titans are sporting tonight. All for a good cause I believe - something to do with giving blood. If that's not the exact cause, it's still a good cause anyway. Nothing to report thus far - it's 0-0 as they muck around midfield.

Preamble: Good evening everyone. I'm ringside (not at Mayweather-Cotto sadly) but a place they often call the MGM Grand of rugby leage, Skilled Park at Robina. The 11th placed Wests Tigers are in town tonight o take on the 15th placed Gold Coast Titans. Neither side has been lighting the competition on fire, so temper your expectations in that regard. However, neither side is particularly good at tackling either, so let's hope there's about 30 tries scored tonight.

I'm thrilled to announce that Phil Graham is on debut for the Titans tonight at fullback, not because he's been greatly missed by the NRL but because he is one of the great first-name, last-name players. He's in the Shane Rodney, Brent Todd category for mine. Nick Kenny another classic. And let's not forget some of the other great first-name, last-name players in this Titans line-up tonight - Kevin Gordon, Luke Douglas. In that regard, they really are stacked. Beau Ryan and Chris Lawrence leading the way for the Tigers.

    That's probably enough.
