Like thousands of other Australian students, Ken Scruton has just received the news that will determine his future.
The 18-year-old Hawker College student has just been offered a place in the University of Canberra's sports coaching and exercise science program, his first preference for university studies.
"I'm feeling pretty relieved, it's good to know I've been accepted into university and especially the course I wanted to study," Ken said.
"I'll take a gap year and as soon as I've finished the course I'll enter a masters in physiotherapy. I have to take a bit of a longer route but it will get me where I want to be."
The Universities Admissions Centre has issued 58,000 ACT and NSW university offers on its online website.
Only 70 per cent of the 84,000 domestic applicants to UAC will receive an offer in the main round but information officers say at least 3500 ACT students will be striking it lucky.
The Australian National University has made 11 per cent more offers to ACT students this year as part of an overall 8.2 per cent increase to 2851 offers.
The University of Canberra has also made more offers this year, but admitted that fewer would be awarded in the main round process.
If students happen to miss the boat, further opportunities will remain in the late and final offers on February 1 and February 8.
