Chief executive Michael Loebenstein said staff numbers would cut from 206 staff to 178 staff across the archive's four Australian offices, although the bulk are in Canberra.

And the regular year-long program of films at the heritage-listed cinema will be cut to occasional event screenings and public programs.
Mr Loebenstein admitted that the arrival on the market of Palace Cinemas in the New Acton precinct had made it harder to justify spending taxpayer funds on importing international films and securing quality prints to screen to the public.
He made the announcement at an all-staff meeting on Friday, although he said every affected staff member had already been informed of the changes individually.
