ACT's Year 3 students top NAPLAN literacy results

10 Sep, 2010 10:48 AM
ACT year three, five, seven and nine students have achieved the best overall NAPLAN results in the nation.

A greater percentage of Territory youngsters scored at or above the national minimum standard than any other state or territory in reading, writing, spelling and numeracy.

The NAPLAN summary report - a breakdown of state and territory results - was released at 10am this morning.

A total of 94.3pc of ACT year three students scored at or above the national minimum spelling standard while 96.9pc did the same for writing and 96.1pc were on par or better with their reading.

Less than five per cent were below the minimum standard for grammar and punctuation.

Check out tomorrow's Canberra Times for the comprehensive run down.

For a long time in Bruce, there was a shipping container with "Grammer rules" graffitied on it. With these results, I now suspect it to be irony.

OMG, I got my kids results. Teachers should be ashamed that they want more holidays/student free days/pay rises/sending lists home for parents to teach their kids. Stop being lazy and teach, you know that job YOU trained for, because my kids grades reflect your ability to teach. And you’re not that good. Bring back the three R’s and stop getting warm and fuzzy. One teacher told me once they don’t teach the alphabet they teach blends. They don't teach alphabet!!! WTF. I am now looking for a private school.
