There's darkness in everyone and that's why characters such as Dexter, a forensic expert and serial killer, are so compelling, author Jeff Lindsay says.
''We all have a [hit] list,'' he said.
''Some of us don't admit it, but have you ever driven in rush hour traffic?
''When someone cuts you off and gives you the finger, do you say, 'What a nice person, I hope they have a great life.'
Lindsay spoke to The Canberra Times ahead of his lecture at the Australian National University last night.
