There's this cartoon boy generations of Australians have grown up with.
He's lively and adventurous, he's unlikely to do precisely what his teachers and parents want and he can often be found getting himself, his best friend and his gang of pals into trouble. He has a stylised shock of hair, a slouchy demeanour and a puckish attitude.
Bart Simpson? No. Dennis the Menace? No.
Of course, we're talking about Ginger Meggs, that grinning redhead most often seen being chased by bullies like Tiger Kelly, trying out something quite possibly ill-advised with his best friend Benny, or hanging out with his girlfriend, Min.
Child actors portraying Ginger and friends are taking to the stage in Canberra from today to present Ginger Meggs and the Missing Link, a musical presented by ACT community arts organisation Music For Everyone. It stars 11-year-old Joshua Rossendell in his first major role.
