Prime Minister Kevin Rudd returns today to Australia from his visit to the United States, trumpeting his ''important work'' at the United Nations and the Group of 20 leaders' summit in Pittsburgh.
However, the Federal Opposition has cautioned that Australia needs to tailor its implementation of the G20 summit outcomes to fit its own economic circumstances.
Acting Opposition Leader Julie Bishop yesterday welcomed the outcomes of the G20 meeting which agreed to take on broader responsibilities in the management of the global economy, including greater regulation of financial institutions and continuing economic stimulus until recovery is assured.
But Ms Bishop said it was important to adjust these measures to suit Australia's relatively strong economic position, unique among other G20 countries.
