The ACT has a new chief police officer. Assistant Commissioner Roman Quaedvlieg will lead Canberra’s 800-strong police force, succeeding Michael Phelan who left the post in early January.
Mr Quaedvlieg, who spent 15 years with the Queensland police before joining the AFP in 2005, was acting as AFP Deputy Commissioner in charge of operations.
He has been the face of some high-profile national operations including massive cross-border drugs busts and international online child porn sting operations.
His appointment, effective immediately, was announced in Canberra yesterday by ACT Attorney-General Simon Corbell and AFP Commissioner Tony Negus.
