ACTION passengers face lost property hike

06 Sep, 2010 09:20 AM
A proposed change to ACTION's arrangements for lost property would see some passengers requiring about a three-hour round trip to recover their goods.

Lost property is currently held in Civic and Tuggeranong.

Under the proposal all lost property would be held only at Tuggeranong, giving many residents from north Canberra, particularly Gungahlin and outer Belconnen, lengthy journeys to recover lost property.

People from those areas using the ACTION service to collect lost property at Tuggeranong would have a 60 to 90-minute journey each way.

ACTION was asked about the proposal, through the Department of Territory and Municipal Services.

A spokesman said that ACTION was reviewing all of its functional areas to determine if there were better ways of doing business.

''Lost property is currently under review and a workplace steering committee has been set up for this purpose.''

The committee would assess all issues, including the impact on the community of any proposed change.

Just like lost bus school term tickets.. Only available until 4pm and not available from Tuggeranong.. This doesn't help parents who work until 4pm - living in Tuggeranong -& can't get time off during the day!!!!

Why does this paper constantly write negative stories about Action?! How about rewriting the story under the heading "Action consolidates lost propery administration to increase efficiencies" or something like that? All the Action bashing is getting tiring. It isn't Actions fault that Canberra Times journalists have to commute to an industrial area each day.

Same logic as having only one motor vehicle inspection station when we have an out of territory car to get registered!

It might be a good idea if the top managers of ACTION were required to live in Dunlop and catch the bus to and from work everyday, and to whatever social events they wished to attend on the weekends. Or even better, allocate the top executives to different areas, Dunlop, Forde, Gordon for example, and then make them commute to Fyshwick!
