Arrest after snail-pace chase

21 Mar, 2010 10:28 AM
A MISSING tyre, a blood alcohol level police say was four times the limit, and inflated airbags didn't deter a woman from leading pursuing officers on a snail-pace chase in south Canberra on Friday.

Police knew something was amiss when they spotted the car limping along Isabella Drive in Richardson without the front left-hand tyre about 6.30pm.

Officers tried to pull the vehicle over, but the 31-year-old woman failed to stop. The car eventually stopped in Norris Street, Chisholm after a brief low-speed pursuit.

The chase was over within minutes, during which time the car stopped and started a number of times.

An inspection of the vehicle revealed the airbags were deployed and the windscreen shattered, apparently as a result of an accident about 4.30pm, when the vehicle allegedly collided with another vehicle in Calwell.
