Bottle-free Bundy turns on the tap

27 Sep, 2009 10:44 AM
BUNDANOON became Australia's first bottled water-free town yesterday.

Residents marched behind a sole piper to officially turn on the new filtered-water stations and drinking fountains in the main street and at Bundanoon Public School. Instead of commercial bottled water, Bundanoon's cafes, newsagent, bottle shop and supermarket will offer customers Bundy-On-Tap refillable water bottles, which can be filled free of charge with chilled, filtered water from businesses, or from the main street water stations.

Do Something! founder Jon Dee said more than 1000 of the Bundy-On-Tap water bottles had been sold in the first week.

''What we've shown is that we don't have to rely on bottled water,'' Mr Dee said.

Refillable bottles would ''save the environment and also save people's wallets''.
