Boy, 15, surrenders over stabbing

12 Mar, 2010 10:08 AM

Police have today arrested a 15-year-old boy in relation to a stabbing near Erindale College on Tuesday.

The Tuggeranong youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, surrendered himself to the city police station this morning.

Detectives are questioning him about the attack and he is expected to appear in the ACT Children’s Court later today.

An 18-year-old man was stabbed a number of times when a fight broke out in a car park next to the college in Wanniassa on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim remains in a serious but stable condition in Canberra Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The fight broke out about 1pm. A witness said she and her friends had been given an early mark and were near the front entrance to the school when they spotted the victim, bleeding through his shirt, being held by an older woman.

The witness, who did not wish to be identified, said the woman shouted, ''Help me, help me, my boy's been stabbed''.

Police confirmed the victim's mother was in the area at the time of the incident.

The unidentified student called for people from the nearby recreational facilities, who administered initial first aid.

She said she saw what appeared to be a wound to the stomach.

Other witnesses said they saw the victim walking assisted, holding his back, with blood trailing down his leg.
