Car passenger critical after bus crash

08 Sep, 2010 09:25 AM
Three men were taken to hospital yesterday afternoon after the car they were travelling in and a school bus collided in Gowrie.

The crash, which occurred about 3.45pm on Ashley Drive at the intersection of Statton Street, left one man in a critical condition. The 41 students and driver on the rural school bus were unharmed.

The men, aged in their 20s, were transported by paramedics to Canberra Hospital.

The man in the front passenger seat of the silver Mitsubishi Lancer was trapped for about 20 minutes until freed by firefighters using the jaws of life. He was stabilised at the scene by intensive-care paramedics before being taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Police are investigating the crash, which closed Ashley Drive between the intersections of Statton Street and Clive Steele Avenue in both directions for more than 2 hours.

Anybody with information regarding the accident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers website.
