Russell Field, 20, of Chisolm, who is accused of murdering Richard "Rebel Rick" Roberts and Gregory Carrigan in the Tuggeranong suburb last month, did not appear at a brief hearing in the ACT Magistrates Court yesterday.

Field is accused of shooting the 57-year-old senior Rebels Motorcycle Club member and his 48-year-old associate dead on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 24 at Field's house in Couchman Crescent.

Before Magistrate John Burns his lawyer Ben Aulich was present to hear the charges against his client, which named the dead men for the first time, read out.

Field has yet to face court over the two murder charges after his initial court appearance, two days after the alleged killings, was cancelled amid unprecedented security around the courts complex in Civic.

Amid fears that outlaw motorcycle gang members would try to extract revenge for one of their own, Field was eventually taken to Belconnen Remand Centre in a US-built bomb and bullet-proof van with a convoy of police outriders.

He has been held in protective custody since then and Mr Aulich indicated to Magistrate John Burns that Field would apply on Friday to be freed on bail.
