Christian Lobby warns Rudd over civil unions

21 Nov, 2009 10:54 AM
Kevin Rudd will lose the votes of tens of thousands of churchgoers if he does not overturn the ACT's civil partnership legislation, according to the Australian Christian Lobby.

And the lobby group has also accused the ACT Government of being the ''most anti-Christian of governments in this country''.

The warnings come as Mr Rudd prepares to address the lobby group's national conference today in Canberra.

Christian Lobby managing director Jim Wallace said he hoped Mr Rudd would confirm that the Federal Government would again overturn ACT law.

The Prime Minister has repeatedly refused to comment on the controversial law, but his long-standing support of the Marriage Act has not changed.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland is still evaluating the new ACT law. A spokesman for Mr McClelland said federal Labor remained committed to equal rights for all couples in federal and state laws, but had also ruled out changes to the Marriage Act.
