ACT and Queanbeyan community groups will represent the interests of Canberrans at a second meeting into the controversial gas-power station and data centre development in Tuggeranong.
Health Minister Katy Gallagher announced a Health Impact Assessment of the project last month with the steering committee announced on July2.
Steering meeting chairman Professor Tony Capon said the groups were chosen based on the previous forum. ''We identified the key stakeholders as we understood the project,'' he said. Tuggeranong and Woden community groups, the Jerrabomberra Residents' Association, Canberrans for Powerstation Relocation and the ACT Chamber of Commerce will be joined by the ACT Branch of the Property Council, the Queanbeyan Business Council and ActewAGL at a technical workshop into the proposal.
Public health expert Professor Capon said tomorrow's meeting would be a more in-depth assessment of the proposal.
''We are clear on the issues of concern. The next phase is when we really look at these,'' he said. The technical workshop is ''for people who want to comb through the detail of the assessment and examine the proposal more closely.''
Mr Capon said ActewAGL and the consultants who prepared the acoustic and pollution reports would give a presentation at the meeting.
Last week about 200 residents attended a meeting to raise concerns about the proposed Canberra Technology City project in Tuggeranong.
Mr Capon said it was likely other open forums would be held for residents in early August and after recommendations had been forwarded to Ms Gallagher.
The independent panel's final recommendations are due by August15.
The committee does not have the authority to stop the development, but can recommend changes.
