Speeding motorists will face a double hit if caught over the coming holiday period, while those hooning north might be spotted from the skies.
Transport Minister Jon Stanhope announced double demerit points will be in force between Christmas Eve and January 3.
Under the initiative those caught for speeding and seatbelt offences will be hit with up to 12 demerit points.
The scheme aimed at reducing the holiday road toll will be applied in NSW from December 23.
''Road safety is always important, but at times such as this, when many more people are on the road, everyone needs to pay extra attention to the road rules and drive safely,'' Mr Stanhope said.
Those speeding on the Hume Highway might also be booked from the sky, with NSW Police commissioning the use of a Cessna plane to track dangerous drivers.
The aircraft will also be used to book speeding drivers, and will watch for dangerous driving and signs of fatigue. The plane will be based at Marulan, north of Goulburn from Friday as part of NSW Police's Operation Safe Arrival.
