Firie loses home in blaze

18 Dec, 2009 01:04 PM
The NSW Rural Fire Service has confirmed a senior volunteer has lost their home near Michelago.

The house is one of three to be lost in the fires, burning since about 4pm yesterday.

Bruce and Lindsay Perrin lost their sawmill, 13 pet greyhounds and a number of birds.

The couple sustained minor burns and smoke inhalation saving their two houses, five of their dogs and their hens.

An RFS spokesman said crews were establishing containment lines in Tinsderry Nature Reserve.

He said milder weather and gentler winds may help firefighters contain the fire later tonight.

At about midday the RFS said no homes were under direct threat from the fire.
