Labor will launch its election campaign in Brisbane five days before voters go to the polls and a week later than expected.
Campaign director Karl Bitar said Prime Minister Julia Gillard would formally launch the Government's re-election campaign on ntsaMonday, nteAugust 16. Labor has not revealed the venue.
The Government of the day traditionally launches its campaign on the penultimate Sunday before the election, two weeks before polling day.
A long-standing convention means ministers and Opposition frontbenchers do not claim travelling allowance after the launches th they still travel but the parties foot the bill for travelling allowance and the public continues to pay for flights and cars.
There is no date for the Opposition's campaign launch, but the Greens launch their national campaign in Canberra on Sunday.
