L-plater blows '9 times' the limit

24 Dec, 2009 07:14 AM
A learner driver has blown nine times the legal limit while driving unaccompanied in Kingston.

The incident came as three more people died on NSW roads yesterday, including a 28-year-old woman after a single-vehicle accident near Goulburn.

Police arrested a 29-year-old Narrabundah man after reports of an apparently drunk person driving a Nissan Tiida on Giles Street.

He was pulled over on Leichhardt Street in Kingston just before 7pm, where he gave a blood-alcohol reading of .185.

The legal limit for L-plate drivers is .02.

Superintendent Mark Colbran from ACT Policing said the response from the public helped stop the potential for a serious accident.

''Once again, it was lucky that no one was killed or injured when this learner driver got behind the wheel,'' Superintendent Colbran said.

''We urge the community to be vigilant over the upcoming holiday period.

''If you suspect that someone is under the influence of alcohol and driving on our roads, call ACT Police Operations straight away on 131444.''
