A Canberra man charged with washing and concealing the clothes worn by a murder suspect has pleaded not guilty in the ACT Magistrates Court.
Paul Edward Elson, 41, is charged with destroying or concealing evidence relating to the murder of Elizabeth Booshand, 43, at Charnwood shopping centre in July.
Elson was living with his girlfriend across the street from Rebecca Anne Massey, 35, in Charnwood, when Massey was charged with murdering Ms Booshand on the night of July 25 this year. Police allege Massey asked Elson to conceal the clothes she had been wearing when she became involved in a fight with Ms Booshand, who died later in hospital of a stab wound to the heart.
Massey has pleaded not guilty to murdering her, and no weapon has been found.
Police allege Elson took Massey's clothes to his girlfriend's house and made her wash them, before arranging for a third party to take them to rural NSW. The court heard earlier this month that he had tried to influence wit-nesses to change their stories. He has been remanded in custody as police are concerned he could continue to hamper the investigation. He did not apply for bail yesterday, and Magistrate Maria Doogan remanded him to appear again next month. Sally Pryor
