P&C group demands changes to MySchool

07 Sep, 2010 10:12 AM
The MySchool website continues to attract criticism leading up to the expected issuing of NAPLAN results this week.

A group representing ACT parents says not enough parents are consulted about the controversial site.

A decent proportion of mothers and fathers wanted it scrapped, the ACT Council of Parents and Citizens Associations said.

The organisation said parents would have more say if they had a representative on the working party reviewing the site's shortcomings.

The findings of the Senate inquiryinto the administration of national numeracy and literacy test results have been postponed until after the federal election has been resolved.

In its submission to the Senate inquiry, the parents and citizens council said two-thirds of its parents wanted the MySchool website changed.

Some parents felt teachers were ''teaching to the test''.

Others said the stigma experienced by schools with poor literacy and numeracy results was wrong.

''Only 26 per cent of parents are happy with the site in its present format,'' the submission said.

''While the website is often touted as a resource to provide parents with information regarding their child's education, parents' views have tended to be excluded from informing decisions about NAPLAN and the website.''

More than 270 submissions were received by the Senate inquiry, many of which were against how the site was set up now.
