Property Council of Australia ACT executive director Catherine Carter says the need for a long-term infrastructure plan for Canberra should not get lost in the push for a very fast train.
The first full infrastructure plan for the ACT is not expected to be released for almost another year.
The council supports a very fast train, putting a link between Sydney and Canberra at No.1 on its list last year of the top 10 infrastructure projects needed to stimulate economic, employment and population growth in the ACT.
Ms Carter said yesterday the Federal Government should be moved to support a very fast train along the eastern seaboard as a nation-building project.
Chief Minister Jon Stanhope has declared his intention to reignite the debate about a very fast train and as late as last week was meeting with the council, where the project was again discussed.
Mr Stanhope also announced in August last year the Government's plan to draw up an infrastructure plan to establish priorities in the ACT for the coming decade, the plan to be updated annually.
