Qantas job cuts and belt-tightening will hit Canberra-based staff, but the pain will be less severe than in other parts of Australia.
The national carrier has not yet revealed how Canberra will be affected, but a spokesman said the extent of job losses and restructuring would be revealed in the coming weeks.
The number of daily flights is also likely to fall, but not as severely as in other parts of the country.
''There will be cuts across the board from Qantas domestic and international. But that does not include Qantaslink flights, which are doing quite well, and that will soften the blow,'' the spokesman said.
Many of the daily flights operated by the airline to Canberra, particularly those to and from Sydney use smaller planes and are counted as Qantaslink flights.
''Plus Canberra is a special case, as so much of our business here is government business, and that has not suffered as much as the corporate sector,'' he said.
