A driver who led police on a high-speed chase across NSW and the ACT remains on the run after road spikes failed to stop his car.
At about 11.10pm on Sunday, NSW Police began a pursuit of a white Holden Commodore with ACT registration on the Federal Highway. The pursuit was terminated a short time later.
The vehicle was then sighted by an ACT Policing patrol near Dickson and a pursuit started along Northbourne Avenue. The vehicle continued along the Barton Highway and on to the Tuggeranong Parkway. Road spikes were deployed and deflated one of the car's tyres. Police continued to chase the vehicle until the pursuit was terminated at the Sulwood Drive and Drakeford Drive intersection.
The abandoned car was found at a service station in Kambah. It has been seized for forensic examination.
It was the third time police have had to terminate pursuits in the past week. On Thursday, police were conducting a random breath test operation on Athllon Drive at about 2.20pm when a car failed to stop.
A pursuit, which lasted little more than two minutes, ended in Gowrie and the police recovered the car shortly afterwards in Richardson.
The vehicle was a maroon 2008 Holden Statesman which was stolen from Yarralumla earlier in the day.
On Wednesday, a pursuit was terminated after only one minute when a motorcyclist reached speeds of more than 204km/h on the Tuggeranong Parkway.
Meanwhile, ACT Policing arrested a 20-year-old man over a number of traffic offences on Sunday morning.
About 5.25am, a member of the public reported a car being driven erratically in Greenway. Police allege the driver ran two sets of red lights before stopping in Jigger Place, Isabella Plains. The male driver returned a positive roadside screening test of 0.112 and was taken to the Tuggeranong Police Station. The man refused to provide a sample of his breath at the station.
He was taken to the ACT Watch-House where he was charged with failing to stop, refusing to provide a breath sample and driving in a dangerous manner.
The man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
Anyone with information about any of the pursuits is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit the Crime Stoppers website.
