Sisters Karen Daniels and Megan Haylock say sibling rivalry doesn't get in the way of their training for next month's Canberra Times Fun Run though a good yak might.
This year will be the fourth the sisters have trained and competed together.
''Most people find it a bit strange but we can spend a whole weekend together and then when we go for a run we're still talking and still thinking of things to talk about when we finish,'' Mrs Daniels, 47, said.
Her younger sister, Mrs Haylock, 43, said talking and running was not a problem.
The sisters call themselves the Concise Couple, because their running style was ''straight and to the point'', Mrs Daniels said.
Last year the pair won the sisters' category, with Mrs Haylock finishing strongly, ahead of her older sister. But Mrs Haylock almost didn't compete.
''I didn't feel very comfortable at the start and Karen just talked me through it, 'Pace yourself and calm down', which I did,'' she said. ''And then it was at about the 8km mark, I said to her, 'I feel really good', and she said, 'Go for it.' Karen's very inspirational, she's four years older and she's always encouraging me.''
Mrs Daniels said keeping fit had its benefits, including being able to keep up with her grandson, who was almost two.
''He's just full-on go, go, go, but I manage to keep up with him.''
The 10km fun run starts at 9.45am on Yamba Drive, Phillip, and the 5km walk starts and finishes in Commonwealth Park.
